OLYMPIA, Wash. Terminally ill patients with less than six months to live will soon be able to ask their doctors to prescribe them lethal medication in Washington state.
But even though the "Death with Dignity" law takes effect Thursday, people who might seek the life-ending prescriptions could find their doctors conflicted or not willing to write them.
Many doctors are hesitant to talk publicly about where they stand on the issue, said Dr. Tom Preston, a retired cardiologist and board member of Compassion & Choices, the group that campaigned for and supports the law.

How soon before it becomes one’s duty to “die with dignity”?
Still in the introductory stages, death with dignity will be available on an optional basis “for a limited time only.”
After that it will be mandatory and paid by your tax dollars.
Isn't the real question "at what age". Healthcare costs are way to high so we need to lower the age again ...
It is a matter of great concern to us Catholics here (real Catholics, I mean). The local Catholic hospital has announced they and their staff will not participate on any way, shape, or form. Obamurderer can try to force them but they won’t give in.
If doctors can’t refuse to perform an abortion, and hospitals can’t refuse to make them available; and if pharmacists can’t refuse to dispense abortion pills—
how much longer before doctors can’t refuse to hand out poisons?
The EXIT FEE. We spiral to our demise
My whole heart and soul rebels against the thought of such an action. Yet it’s a victimless crime: the suicide consents to his own death. It’s a foolish, miserable, tragic mistake on his part, but it is a victimless crime. Better to change peoples’ hearts and minds to respect and preserve their own lives than to throw people into prison for it.
And for a limited time only, physicians can opt out. After that it will be mandatory. No conscientious objectors will be permitted after the free trial period. Make your reservations early, or be prepared to prescribe lethal poisons to the useless eaters.
That's the problem with this, right there.
Not much of a leap to mandating murdering the rest of us, especially when our medical care will cost Medicare too much. Nice political party, you got there, democrats. Could you be any more evil?
The can choose to do the ethical thing.... CLOSE
..doctors who have no problems writing and administering the drugs.....
....they could build a wing onto the existing abortion room.
Their motto could be:
We'll take you out, coming or going....
Pretty much that’s his plan
A victimless crime? You know, I was reading about another victimless crime yesterday. There was a link on drudgereport. Seems this guy who worked in the morgue was having sex with dead people. Nobody knows just how many, because it went on a long time. Who was HE hurting? Nobody.
You want to overturn that law? I doubt it.
And what we’re talking about here, euthanasia, is not a victimless crime. It devalues human life and takes us closer to a hell on earth where there is no right to life for anyone.
Why is it "Conservative" to deny those that want to die that option?
That's the problem with slippery slopes...there's always some self-imposed arbiter who determines whether or not you are to be given a shove or a sled.
Reduce benefits to the elderly and allow the older, sicker ones to die. They are the ones most likely to be conservative in their viewpoints. Do you think it is just a coincidence that they are being targeted?
It becomes our duty when we defend the Constitution.
Good. End of life decisions belong with the family... not the courts, church or state.
Did you do that Photoshop job with Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer?
It’s not really any of the gubmint’s business if someone wants to commit suicide. The only reason a doctor has to get involved at all is that the gubmint doesn’t let supposedly free people buy their own drugs. They must get a prescription. Suicide has been around forever.
Because it’s fun to tell others how to live—or die.
Soylent Green ... They want the movie to be real ..
I shamelessly stole the image.
It’s a pretty good job, what with putting a donkey head on the horse.
Do you have any idea of how this law can be abused by
greedy relatives and their lawyers to kill off granny for her assets ????
Or cut off expensive experimental drugs because the hospital or doctor or relatives want to save on there costs ???
Lets me tell ya something , a relative of mine was told he had three months to live by the all knowing Doctors .
He survived for four more years and saw the world by ignoring there advice and continuing treatments !
The so-called “death with dignity” crowd can kiss my ass. I’m not leaving this movie until the “End Titles” are finished rolling.
the camel’s nose is under the tent. they will push for more just as soon as everyone’s accepted this
There are victims to doctor assisted suicide. The doctor forced to make the prescription, the nurses forced to take part, the family members who believe in life over death and the society which holds life in such contempt.
They are forcing other people to kill. If we want to end your life, do it yourself.
As soon as Obama rams through socialized healthcare. “Dying with dignity” will become everyone’s patriotic duty so as to save vital government resources for younger, more healthier people who have a higher economic value to the state.
Let me warn you that the Hospice is the biggest scam of them all !
These vultures flew around around my relative hoping for a big donation by helping bump him off early with the help of the hospital that wanted to cut there losses on his treatments ( he had Medicare).
Hospice wanted to move in right in after the 3 to 6 month diagnosis .
I told them to shove it on the phone.
Fours years later and three overseas trips later he died on his own in his own bed not in some hospice.
exactly.

"I'll get the full 20 minutes?"
"Of course, now drink your Obamaberry Koolaid."
HeHeHe ... I remember that scene in the viewing room, showing pictures of the vistas, flowers and didn’t you get to pick your lighting color as well.
Well I wont back down, no I wont back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I wont back down
Gonna stand my ground, wont be turned around
And Ill keep this world from draggin me down
Gonna stand my ground and I wont back down
Hey baby, there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down.
Well I know whats right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin me around
But Ill stand my ground and I wont back down
Hey baby there aint no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground
And I wont back down
No, I wont back down
I believe this whole “dignity death” thing is driven largely by $$$ pure and simple. In Obamaland, the elderly, sick, and those born with serious birth defects will be encouraged and pressured to snuff themselves out so the central planners of our neo-Marxist economies (including state level) can claim balance sheet victories. When the central planners don’t get enough volunteers, they’ll move to Plan B: euthanasia of the unwilling.

Obama Says A Baby Is A Punishment
Obama: If they make a mistake, I dont want them punished with a baby.
I understand your point, but some of these ‘die with dignity organizations’ target those who are dying. They used to send a family member who was sick (but had alot of life in him still) literature with detailed steps and methods on how to take his own life. There was alot of convincing info for those who were depressed or confused about a life long illness, giving them plenty of reasons to take their life. I think they preyed on them before their time. It was illegal in this particular state, so I contacted them and told them to never send another piece of literature again. This family member lived another 20 years.
That was a great scene. Edward G. Robinson had terminal cancer at the time, and died shortly thereafter.
Washington state to allow `dignity’ deaths
In order of who will be ‘allowed to die with dignity’:
1) terminally ill
2) elderly
3) physically disabled
4) handicapped
5) overweight
6) non-productive
