RNC: We Need "Bling" to Pull in "One-Armed Midgets"
NBCBayArea ^ | SAJID FAROOQ

Posted on 03/02/2009 1:17:27 AM PST by cdchik123

In a sign that the world may be coming to an end, the head of the Republican party says he wants a mic check. Word? Word.

Michael Steele, the head of Republican National Committee, wants his party to become the Grand Ol' Hip-Hop Party. Respect.

The new head of the party, and the first African-American to ever fill his chair, wants to spin an "off the hook" public relations blitz into "urban-suburban hip-hop settings" in hopes of getting young Latinos, African-Americans and others down with the good beats to rep the elephant and to rep him hard, son.

"We need to uptick our image with everyone, including one-armed midgets," he said during a recent media blitz where he announced the idea with a joke. He was serious about the idea. He was joking about the one-armed midget part.

Steele told the Washington Times that the party needs a complete makeover the appeals to young voters. A key demographic that they lost out on during the last election,.

"We missed the mark in the past, which is why we are in the crapper now," he said. "We need messengers to really capture that region - young, Hispanic, black, a cross-section. We want to convey that the modern-day GOP looks like the conservative party that stands on principles. But we want to apply them to urban-suburban hip-hop settings."

Is this what we really need?

As a proud CONSERVATIVE who happens to be half black, I can say for a fact that you are NEVER going to get the Black vote. Black people have been raised to believe that Republicans are against Civil Rights, mostly since Barry Goldwater vs Johnson in 1964.

Michael Steele in my opinion has been making a fool of himself with his "hip hop" strategy. I hope someone tells him.

If by that, Michael Steele means he's going to bend over for mediocre comedian turned CNN anchor DJ Hughley-- no thanks.

I remember supporting Steele for RNC Chair and people would bash him for being a RINO. I scoffed at their kookiness. Joke's on me.

Steele’s strategy of p!ssing off the Dittoheads while trying to woo the Hip-Hop crowd is most idiotic.

Yes. I had a feeling the Republican party would pull this to try and look inclusive. You putting Michael as the head of your party isn’t going to make most black people vote Republican.

Blackwell would have been a much better choice, not because he’s Black, but because he’s CONSERVATIVE. But I’m sure many were too afraid he’d turn off the “moderates” nd “independents.”

I can’t imagine such a tone being taken in an article about Obama’s style—which was always written about in tones of respect.

I think we’re making way too much of this. It’s mildly annoying at worst.

Black people have been raised to believe that Republicans are against Civil Rights, mostly since Barry Goldwater vs Johnson in 1964.

Good observation. Never quite connected the loss of the black vote to Goldwater, but he did vote against the 1964 Civil Rights Act three months prior to the 1964 election.

And now with Obama, I do not think there is anything the GOP can do to win over the black vote. However, prior to Obama the Democrats were winning 92% of the black vote and Obama won 94%, not much a giant leap.

However, the GOP has to win over the Hispanic vote. If not the GOP is going to grow more and more irrelevant.

In 12 years Texas will be a majority Hispanic state and will fall to the Democrats in presidential elections. You can also add Florida to the list of new Democratic states let by the Hispanic vote.

Thus in 2020 or 2024 the Republicans will have to spot the Democrats the states of California, New York Illinois, Texas, Florida and Pennsylvania before the first vote is counted.

The electoral math becomes very difficult at that point.

You know, I always thought it would be societal upheavals that killed off the Democrat and Republican Parties. Boy was I wrong. The GOP is going to suffer death by shooting itself in the foot too often.

Michael Steele in my opinion has been making a fool of himself with his "hip hop" strategy.

Trying to bring in the "hip hop" vote would be tantamount to going after the pedophile and goat-sodomizer vote.

Tell me this is satire, or a parody.

Got to be... nobody, not even a Republican, could be that damn fool stupid.

Sorry, but it is not. Steele has been making it his “mission” to employ a “hip hop Republican” strategy.

Sad but true. And it needs to be stopped.

If we are trying to kill off the party,,,,, yes.

Sarah should run as an Indie/Constitutionalist. No need to further sully her name associating with the likes of the RINO party!

The GOP tried to shoot itself in the foot but it missed and instead hit two objects located around three feet above their foot.

Next he’ll be wasting time and money going after hopeless pisspots like New Jersey, Massachusetts, and California. Somebody better slap some sense into Steele and point him towards the “swing” states that can tip the balance and away from the turds that long ago flushed themselves down the toilet forever.

As a proud CONSERVATIVE who happens to be half black, I can say for a fact that you are NEVER going to get the Black vote.

This might be true but there is an opportunity there, it seems to me. A significant part of the black community appears to be socially conservative, religious, in favor of border enforcement. A very good communication and outreach effort by the GOP could peel these black voters away from the Democrats.

But dumb, laughable attempts to appeal to some "hip hop" community are doomed to failure and endless mockery by the liberal establishment and the media.

Michael Steele is black? When did that happen?!? Oh...

; )

That being said, I hate "hip hop" culture like the plague that it is.
