'Pretty sad' Limbaugh's the lead GOP voice: Ron Paul @ 2:13 pm by Michael O'Brien
It is pretty sad that conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh has become the de-facto voice of the Republican Party, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) said Monday.
"I think its pretty sad," Paul said during an appearance on CNN Monday morning. "And it means that the Republicans are really starving for some type of leadership."
"He really didnt broaden the base," the former Republican presidential candidate told the network's John Roberts. "I mean, its still very narrow, and that is why some of us would like to see an approach that would emphasize personal liberties and civil liberties."
Limbaugh's speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this past weekend has been the subject of much discussion on the left and the right, with a number of Republican leaders (such as Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele) sounding off on Limbaugh's role and influence within the GOP.
"I think a lot of people like to hear what hes saying, but I think its also a little bit polarizing and confrontational, and I think thats why the Democrats are bragging that Limbaugh now speaks for the Republicans," Paul added. "So I guess the Democrats think its to their advantage if hes leading the charge."
The Texas Republican also indicated there was little chance he would rekindle his presidential bid in 2012, opting instead to focus on his "Campaign for Liberty" fund.
Must be dump on Rush day....
Hey, Ron, aren’t there some wild shrimp somewhere in dire need of an earmark?
Remember what Rush said, he doesn’t have time to get offended by those kinds of comments. He does not give people the power to offend him. Those are great words to live by.
Jealousy.
Looking more and more like this is a planned attack on conservatives.
Emphasize personal liberties and civil rights!??? Tha is what Rush talks about all the time. He is a big advocate of those. What is Paul talking about?
More moronic musings from Congressman Rhu Paul.
I’m starting to think this is a coordinated effort from RNC.
Widen the base, widen the base, give up any and all opinions in the name of widening the base...
Stick it, Ron. We’ve played the widen the base game for 20 years, and the only time we’ve actually been successful is when we work to cut back taxes, trim the size of government, and fry liberals on their spending. The secret, though, is not to be spending like liberals when you’re trying to do it, or expanding government faster than any liberal can, or working out tax hikes.
Gee Dr. Paul, and how is it exactly that YOU ‘expand the base’???
D'uh, Ron! That's exactly what Rush was talking about!
Ron Paul - Leader of Neo-Nazi’s, 9/11 Conspiracy Theorists, anti-War On Terror groups and other assorted nuts...Pretty sad.
And you have? LOL
I appreciate Ron Paul’s Constitutionally based approach to issues. It’s too bad he’s an idiot the rest of the time.
And how long has Paul been living off the taxpayer in office?
The Democrats talk about Limbaugh because they want to cause division in the Republican Party. The real enemy of our freedom is the Democratic Party. Plus, the Democrats don’t have the first clue what they’re doing. Republicans can lead by standing up for principle. The Democrats don’t have any, and don’t care.
If it IS true that Limbaugh by himself doesn’t “expand” the base (and I’m not convinced that is true), then it is absolutely vital for Republican leaders in WashDC and around the nation to stand behind Limbaugh’s conservatism and EXPLAIN what it means.
These wimpy Republicans allow the antagonistic media (AP, CNN, ABC, etc) to DEFINE what Limbaugh says.
Republicans must be the ones to define and extrapolate on Limbaugh’s sometimes brilliant points.
“I think its pretty sad,” Paul said during an appearance on CNN Monday morning. “And it means that the Republicans are really starving for some type of leadership.”
Which means that Ron {Paul hasn’t shown any leadership qualities.
