U.S. Says Threat of Mexican Drug Cartels Approaching 'Crisis Proportions'
FOX News ^ | March 03, 2009

Two of Mexico's deadliest drug cartels have reached a combined force of 100,000 foot soldiers, wreaking havoc across the country and threatening U.S. border states, the U.S. Defense Department told The Washington Times.

The cartels rival the Mexican army in size and have both Mexico and the U.S. in crisis mode as they deal with what they fear is a coming insurgency along the border.

"It's moving to crisis proportions," an unidentified defense official told The Times. The official also said the cartels have reached a size where they are on par with Mexico's army of 130,000.

About 7,000 people have died in the last year — more than 1,000 in January alone — at the hands of Mexico's increasingly violent drug cartels. Murders often involve beheadings or bodies dissolved in vats of acid.

The two most dangerous cartels are the Sinaloa cartel, nicknamed the "Federation" or "Golden Triangle" by law enforcement agencies, and "Los Zetas" (the Gulf Cartel). They have been growing and are reportedly discussing a truce or merger to better withstand government forces, The Times reported.

Mexico is now only behind Pakistan and Iran as a U.S. national security concern, coming in ahead of Afghanistan and Iraq, the defense official told The Times.

The country's attorney general, Eduardo Medina Mora, called last week for more U.S. prosecutions of people who sell weapons illegally to the cartels, as well as more efforts to stop drug profits from flowing south.

Mexico has spent $6.5 billion over the last two years, on top of its normal public security budget, on the fight against drugs, but that falls short of the $10 billion Mexican drug gangs bring in annually, he said.

The turkey in the White House could do that with a stroke of his pen, if he wanted to.

“Mark my words,” Joe Biden said in a Seattle fundraiser, “it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We’re about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”

Our government has betrayed the American people.

The federal governments prime responsibility is to secure the borders and provide for a defense of this nation.

Instead, what they’ve done is allow sanctuary cities for illegals who have at the very minimum violated federal law.

If that person comes here illegally, takes up a forged federal document, commits perjury to obtain governmental services.....they have committed fraud, forgery, perjury to name a few felonies.

It is insane to hold American citizens to a different standard as those who essentially are FELONS.

And with Janet Napolitano as Secretary of Homeland Security, we’re screwed even more!

We are well past the point of a fence or wall protecting us and securing our border.

It needs to come from within Mexico, itself. I’m not a Mexico as a State or territory person, but perhaps a voluntary receivership might do. I’d rather we gave money to Mexico than Palestine, Egypt, Kenya, Syria, etc.

But, then again, we aren’t exactly in the position to be straightening out other Countries right now, are we?

Maybe he and his top people could go negotiate with them, taking no guns and waving a white flag.

That would show he really has hope.

well I am not crazy about American boys dying for Mexico. Finish the fence, reinforce it, put the national guard on the border and deport illegals.

Somalia? It is growing in minnesota. Bringing Somalis into America was designed to destroy the country and it does not take that many of them. Incredibly unpleasant, combative, and litigious people and mostly Muslims.

I well remember his statement. We've already had a big one, the economy, how many more does he need to "test his mettle"? He fails by the day.

...laying the ground work for the coming race war in America....if you called out the national guard, the Hispanic troops could go over or go home....and take their weapons with them.

Wrong! The Mexicans or for that matter all nationalities in the service are with very rare exceptions loyal United States Citizens.

Do not slander them sir!

"How about protecting the border, building effing fence and deport illegals. This is why we have the military and national guard."

First we have to give the order our Military and NG can use real bullets to defend themselves.

That is completely wrong. I know several hispanic veterans and any one of them are welcome at my dinner table. They are very loyal to this country.

From personal experience- It's a mixed bag. Some would, some wouldn't. There are hispanic gang members in the military with the expressed purpose of gaining military training and proficiency. Some are sent in by the Zetas, many of whom received their training from the U.S. Military before working for hire in the cartels. The Zetas and other gangs use our military as a out sourced training platform. Their first loyalty is to their gang, not the U.S military or the U.S. Constitution. Also, La Familia is a strong influence for most hispanics. Stronger than than the committment to duty as a soldier in some cases. It's not cut and dry one way or the other.

“Wrong! The Mexicans or for that matter all nationalities in the service are with very rare exceptions loyal United States Citizens.”

....What United States?....there’s not going to be any United States! .......wars of secession and partition have occurred 3 times here already(1776,1835,1861)....remember the ‘boat people’ of the 70s?.....wait til the ‘foot people’ start pouring over the Mexican border....those people will have to be turned back at gun point and they will resist at gunpoint...and that’s when the foundation phase of Reconquista will shift into it’s military phase....and the break up of the United States will begin.

lol...we’re All beginning to sounds like broken records.

The real problem isn’t what we need to do, we’ve got that down pat. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s discussing what ultimately needs to be done without breaking FR rules ;)

So the US Defense Department is talking of crisis proportions huh.

Obviously, no one in our government cares. The democrats are in full spin destroying our nation daily. They haven’t the time for this sh*t. Besides, Barry has met with Clooney and probably has Darfur on mind for the troops in the future.

The GOP is powerless and suffering from destructive spine disease, too afraid of the MSM and Obama to stand up and call attention to something they have never cared about either.

So, who is going to stop it?
