Special Edition Wednesday, March 4, 2009
Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data. Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks. We have links, lots of them.

March 4th is the 63rd day of the year in the Gregorian Calendar There are 302 days remaining in 2009.
The Gregorian solar calendar is an arithmetical calendar. It counts days as the basic unit of time, grouping them into years of 365 or 366 days; and repeats completely every 146,097 days, which fill 400 years, and which also happens to be 20,871 seven-day weeks. Of these 400 years, 303 have 365 days, and 97 have 366 days. This gives an average year length of exactly 365.2425 days, or 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes and 12 seconds. From the Radixionary
Variola major: SmallPox
 A tomato is not a vegetable. According to
 A long, long time ago, in a university far far away, a student doing his masters degree oral examination was asked ``If you had to sum up in one word what calculus was all about, what would it be ?". The student proceeded by cramming as much material as possible in a two minute pep talk. Then the examiner responded ``Actually, I was only looking for the word limit". In case you're wondering, the student did get his degree. Limits are where Algebra ends and Calculus begins.

| Chief Justice Roger B. Taney administered the oath of office to Abraham Lincoln using the Bible shown here. With the brief words, "I, Abraham Lincoln, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" Lincoln was sworn in as the sixteenth president. The ceremony was witnessed by Clerk of the Supreme Court, William Thomas Carroll, who recorded the occasion in the back of this Bible. |

The Army's favorite day
I am completely functional
On this day 1994 4 Arab terrorists found guilty of bombing the World Trade Center
On this day 1985 War veterans returned to the "Bridge over the River Kwai" Pierre Boulle's novel, The Bridge Over The River Kwai, recounts the building of a wooden bridge by prisoners of war who were incarcerated at Kanchanaburi in Thailand. Although Pierre claims this is a fictional work, we believe that better than 90% of it is factual. The prisoners did exist, the camp existed, the bridge existed, the war existed, and the atrocities by the Japanese who forced the prisoners to labor and die at that location on that task were real. Pierre titled his book The Bridge Over The River Kwai; however, since the Thai word for "river" is "Kwai", his title literally reads The Bridge Over The River.

Begun in October 1942, using prisoner of war (POW) labour, it was completed and operational by early February 1943. |

On this day 1979 200th episode of "All in the Family" "All in the Family's impact went beyond the world of television. The show became the focus of a heated national debate on whether the use of comedy was an appropriate means by which to combat prejudice and social inequality..........."
1st U.S. bombing of Berlin On this day 1924
 On this day 1861 Confederate States adopt "Stars and Bars" flag

An Ocean Of Ink
To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge. Ephesians 3:19
The words of the hymn The Love of God capture in word pictures the breathtaking magnitude of divine love:
Could we with ink the ocean fill
And were the skies
of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll
contain the whole
Though stretched from sky to sky.
These marvelous lyrics echo Pauls response to the love of God. The apostle prayed that believers might be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and heightto know the love of Christ which passes knowledge (Eph. 3:18-19). In reflecting on these verses about Gods love, some Bible scholars believe width refers to its worldwide embrace (John 3:16); length, its existence through all ages (Eph. 3:21); depth, its profound wisdom (Rom. 11:33); and height, its victory over sin opening the way to heaven (Eph. 4:8).
We are admonished to appreciate this amazing love. Yet as we expand our awareness of Gods love, we soon realize that its full measure is beyond our understanding. Even if the ocean were filled with ink, using it to write about the love of God would drain it dry. Dennis Fisher
Gods love cannot be explainedit can only be experienced.

The light of God surround you The love of God enfold you The power of God protect you The presence of God watch over you Wherever you are, God is, And all is well. Amen.
BLESS THIS HOUSE Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.
Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.

Actually, I think that a tomato IS a vegetable according to the Tarrif Acts of 1883, but it is all so darn confusing! The thing is, it was debated in Courts, and according to the Federal Tax Laws of the time, a tomato is a vegetable, although, botanically speaking, a tomato is a fruit.
ALSO
Smallpox
Smallpox is a disease caused by the Variola major virus. Some experts say that over the centuries it has killed more people than all other infectious diseases combined. Worldwide immunization stopped the spread of smallpox three decades ago. The last case was reported in 1977. Two research labs still house small amounts of the virus. Experts fear bioterrorists could use the virus to spread disease.
Smallpox spreads very easily from person to person. Symptoms are flu-like and include high fever, fatigue and headache and backache, followed by a rash with flat red sores.
The U.S. stopped routine smallpox vaccinations in 1972. Military and other high-risk groups continue to get the vaccine. The U.S. has increased its supply of the vaccine in recent years. The vaccine makes some people sick, so doctors save it for those at highest risk of disease.
