Racial wounds resurface in Detroit election year

Cobo convention center, one of the many aging buildings downtown, is threatening to become the latest tinderbox in resurgent racial hostilities between the mostly black city and its predominantly white suburbs.

With calls for self-determination in how the venue operates, members of Detroit's embattled City Council have reopened wounds more than four decades old.

Last week, Council President Monica Conyers, who is black, told a white Teamsters' union official during a contentious meeting on whether to accept the deal that most of the people who work at Cobo during the annual North American International Auto Show "don't look like me. They look like you."

Conyers said her comments were not race-baiting. "Everybody's played the race card but me. I've not said anything about race," she said later Wednesday.

Conyers, wife of Democratic Congressman John Conyers, has had a blemished public image throughout her first term on council. She has been accused of threatening to shoot a mayoral staffer and called Ken Cockrel Jr., then the council president, "Shrek" during a public hearing.

She also was one of five council members who voted in 2007 in favor of the $47 million waste hauling contract. Conyers has since hired an attorney.

I have no doubt that she fully believes this, even though it's at complete variance with the facts. People like Conyers are so invested in victimhood that they believe themselves no longer subject to the laws of logic, grammar, or physics.

It is a proven pseudo-medical certainty that there is nothing available to "salve" racial wounds.

It is also further evident that people who possess "racial wounds" don't want to be healed - like most hypocondriacs, these people derive hours of payoff for sporting these nifty wounds. They get unparallelled attention and "victimhood credits" to trick their ego into thinking they are right and deserving.

Flys and other government insects flit about these "wounds", aggravating their effect on America. Healing these wounds would amount to racial malpractice and a person could lose their naacpacorndnc credentials.

These people were trained to play sick instead of going to school, to call in pitiful to get out of work, and to play the victim to be entitled to cradle-to-grave life care.

No, we cannot allow these wounds to heal, as America might start working and being great again, and disappoint the Kenyan.

Conyers isn't racist, she just orders whites to leave the room. That's not racist, naw no such thing. What if some white ordered her to leave the room?

I’ve worked as an exhibitor during the SAE show at Cobo, which was such a huge event that the joke was the security zones of “Fort Cobo” and “Fort Westin” were extended to the road between the two for that week.

I can tell you that the unions have the Cobo shows so tied up it’s ridiculous. Displayers will wait hours for a member of the “right” union to show up and do something a small child could do.

Needless to say, this sort of Dim intramural squabbling should be egged on whenever possible.

Pro Tem President Collins, who is recovering from shoulder surgery, was irate during the meeting and talked about how Europeans came into her village "raping her and taking what they want."

At one point, she broke out into the 19th Century hymn, "Onward Christian Soldiers."

Collins said no matter what "the battle now is to uphold the integrity of Detroit."
