Cobo convention center, one of the many aging buildings downtown, is threatening to become the latest tinderbox in resurgent racial hostilities between the mostly black city and its predominantly white suburbs.
With calls for self-determination in how the venue operates, members of Detroit's embattled City Council have reopened wounds more than four decades old.

Last week, Council President Monica Conyers, who is black, told a white Teamsters' union official during a contentious meeting on whether to accept the deal that most of the people who work at Cobo during the annual North American International Auto Show "don't look like me. They look like you."

Conyers, wife of Democratic Congressman John Conyers, has had a blemished public image throughout her first term on council. She has been accused of threatening to shoot a mayoral staffer and called Ken Cockrel Jr., then the council president, "Shrek" during a public hearing.
She also was one of five council members who voted in 2007 in favor of the $47 million waste hauling contract. Conyers has since hired an attorney.

5 years of negotiations went down the tube with Conyers and her fakata carnival board.
Cobo Hall is a dying venue. A regional board convined and come up with a solution after 5 years something to this effect 3 counties would by it, take the debt load and maintence from Detroit and hire a mgt team and they would have gotten a lions share of the profits.
Monica Conyers through a hissy fit that the white burbs were essentially stealing their jewel.
She esentially pissed away 5 years of work with this vote. The region and the players, you can tell on local radio in a way they are stunned.
The may loose the NAIAS to Chicago.

Collins said no matter what "the battle now is to uphold the integrity of Detroit." There's a battle that was lost 40 years ago and should never have been fought.
I know it's useless to apply facts here, but a good 99.9999% of all African slaves were captured by Arabs or other Africans. WJR AM 760 out of Detroit is doing a great job of asking the right questions, standing for logic and reason, and therefore frequently confounding and angering the libs in government there, including Conyers and Granholm. If you can tune them in (powerhouse), check them out. But at 5 pm Mitch Album, no FRiend, goes on and that’s when many (I’d guess most) tune out.
