BELLEVUE, WA – Calling the ban on semiautomatic firearms “a bad, and totally unnecessary, lapsed federal law,” former Congressman Bob Barr is urging Attorney General Eric Holder to back away from a plan to renew that onerous idea, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is joining in the effort.
“While we opposed Holder’s nomination as Attorney General and Barr supported him,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Barr in opposing the ridiculous notion that the ban be resurrected and made permanent.
“The ban on so-called ‘assault weapons’ by Bill Clinton and the Democrats was a bad idea in 1994,” he recalled, “and it is an even worse idea today. We needn’t remind House Speaker Nancy Pelosi about the mid-term election consequences of the 1994 ban.”
Barr was among dozens of pro-gun challengers swept into Congress by angry gun owners in November 1994. He served from 1995 until 2003. The former Congressman sent a letter to Holder on March 3 in which he explained that pushing for a renewal of the ban “would be inconsistent in my view with the clear mandate you enjoy to restore integrity and confidence in the government of which you are an important part.” He encouraged Holder to instead devote his energies to “restoring the civil liberties of American citizens” that have been eroded over the past several years.
“Many law-abiding gun owners voted for Barack Obama,” Gottlieb added, “taking his word that, as president, he would not come after their guns. Renewing the senseless ban on sport-utility firearms and original capacity magazines would betray the trust of those voters, and Holder should understand that.
“We’re delighted that Bob Barr, who supported Holder’s nomination, has added his considerable influence to this debate,” Gottlieb stated. “With Barr squarely in the corner of American gun owners – millions of whom own the kinds of firearms that would be affected by such a ban – hopefully we will prevail and the Obama administration will find more useful endeavors.”

Obama and Pelosi did not mislead these voters. Obama said many times verbally and in print that he would persue a new AWB. This was stated on his pre and post election web sites. This was also printed as one of the goals of the Dem party platform.
I am still waiting for them to find their first one!
This talk of banning weapons does as much for the gun industry as the attacks on Rush did for him. And they are starting to figure it out, though I cannot believe they didn’t already know. Gawd they must be dumb (or smart in a way we haven’t figured out).
In 1994 out of concern for losing our gun rights I bought an SKS for $105 and also 1,000 rounds. I shot about twenty and still have the rest. I’m not really into guns.
A lot of the local gun shops which, at the time, were holes in the wall, were able to upgrade substantially. Anybody remember Wades gun shop in Bellevue (where this article is from)? It was a little dumpy place on NE 8th. Now it is a huge place on Bell Red road and they have a full indoor firing range by Factoria.
Meanwhile, thanks to current events I finally got a home defense shotgun just this week.
Fast forward to 2009. I went to a local pawn shop after work last night to get some movies ($3 used dvds) and their gun department was a free-for-all. There was a guy next to me (the movies were in the barrier between the rest of the store and the gun area) on his cell phone. When he got off the phones I asked him why the heck are there so many people here? He said, and I kid you not, Obamamania. I just spent an hour in another store waiting to get ammo. I have to get some mere here.
It was almost like that scene in Red Dawn where the kids are getting stuff from the guys sporting goods store (after escaping the town), except a LOT more people, more orderly, and people were paying. But it was a similar atmosphere/mood.
Spooky.
This is going to end very badly.
Chairman Patrick J. Leahy, (D-Vermont) 'inferred' that he owns these so-called assault weapons that were previously banned and shoots them on his property. He pointedly asked Holder if he would in any way attempt to ban Leahy's guns, or interfere with Vermont's *liberal* gun laws.. Holder said NO.
We now know that was a LIE.
As such, Holder should resign or be fired as US AG asap!
Bob Barr? loony libertarian candidate Barr? oh that’s going to help....NOT!
Any “law-abiding” gun owners who voted for the Big O deserve to have their guns confiscated - they really did not care about them.
Not quite. Listen again.

What’s scarey is that Holder does not believe 2nd amendment is an individual right.
They don’t have a mandate.
