President Obama said the military was not winning the counter insurgency war in Afghanistan as he opened the door for peace negotiations.
By persuading Iraqi Sunni insurgents to turn on al-Qaeda extremists, US commanders engineered a sharply drop in violence in Iraq.
President Obama said deals similar to those implemented by General David Petraeus in Iraq could be cut in Afghanistan and Pakistan. "If you talk to General Petraeus, I think he would argue that part of the success in Iraq involved reaching out to people that we would consider to be Islamic fundamentalists, but who were willing to work with us because they had been completely alienated by the tactics of al-Qaeda in Iraq."
"There may be some comparable opportunities in Afghanistan and the Pakistani region, but the situation in Afghanistan is, if anything, more complex," he told the New York Times.

I have learned by personal experience that you can’t explain, excuse or deal with an evil or crazy person.
There are only a few choices:
1. Get away from the person and don’t have anything to do with them. (Hard to do in this case because zero is the pretend POTUS)
2. Stick your head in the sand and learn to live with them.
3. Make the person go away. For this particular case I am praying for zero being kicked out of the white house and/or sent to prison.
Nothing this piece of garbage does makes sense to normal thinking people. Stuff like this is only going to get bigger and get worse.

I think it’s dawned on him that you can’t nationalize health care, energy, the banking system, automobile manufacturing, and still prosecute a global war. And when the Left needs to “cut back” and economize on something, the Defense Department always bears the burden.
I saw that one coming. He wants as people as possible dependent on government. That is the means to control.
Isn’t this is a complete 180 from his statements in his address to Joint Session of Congress? I believe it is.

I’m not sure, but you obviously don’t understand the nuances of international diplomacy, unlike Obama, who’s had SO much experience dealing with the Taliban. /sarc.
I would have thought think he’d encourage them because non profits have nothing to do with the capitalism he hates. Many of these non profits support liberal causes or causes that conservatives aren’t interested in, such as art museums.

The analogy, whether made by Obma or anyone else - Taliban in Afghanistan = Sunni Insurgents in Iraq - is false.
We got the Sunni insurgents to work AGAINST Al Queda.
Who would Obama be asking the Taliban to work AGAINST?
We have already been doing in Afghanistan what would be analogous to what we did in Iraq. We have not obliterated the Afghan war lords; and have been working with them as much as practical, AGAINST the Taliban.
Some have even been named as “governors” by the Afghan government, and locally some remain stronger than the central government in Afghanistan.
And this from a boy who is scared to death to talk to Rush Limbaugh.

I recall that persuasion manifesting itself by enforcing the policy of “if you’re not with us, you’re against us.” Clearly, it was an effective policy.
It’s just like Obama to throw away everything that’s been achieved, and at the same time poke the military in the eye while stabbing them in the back.
Well, all I can say is, he had better not send Hillary for these talks - they’d probably cut off her head since she’s a female who dared go to school. Oh, wait - it will be the MODERATE Taliban - so maybe the’ll be so kind as to offer up a prayer after they cut off her head....
(This isn’t a set up for Hillary bashing - those people are not evolved, and could very well hurt her - and I, for one, would not want that to happen)
