Nancy Reagan praises Obama Craig Gordon Craig Gordon 17 mins ago

Under fire from congressional Republicans for lifting restrictions on stem-cell research, President Barack Obama got a powerful endorsement for his move Monday from Nancy Reagan, the former’s president’s wife.

“I’m very grateful that President Obama has lifted the restrictions on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research,” she wrote in a statement released shortly after Obama signed an executive order lifting the Bush-era restrictions. “These new rules will now make it possible for scientists to move forward. I urge researchers to make use of the opportunities that are available to them, and to do all they can to fulfill the promise that stem cell research offers."

Nancy Reagan has been an outspoken advocate of stem-cell research – and scientists hope that the research could someday lead to cure to Alzheimer’s disease, which afflicted her husband, Ronald Reagan.

Well, Sub.

You might be supposed to live to a hundred.

So, quit making plans for your organs, and get cracking and get on with whatever it is you’re supposed to be doing in the world.

I haven’t liked Nancy Reagan since she was rude to Maureen and Michael at RR’s funeral.

That would have been difficult to pull off since Maureen Reagan died on 8 August 2001 nearly three years prior to her father.

You’re right. I guess it was just Michael. The way she turned a cold shoulder to him, while shepherding her two creepy children, made me mad.

My guess is she believed because Bush banned government money for embryo research, that private research was also forbidden, which of course is not the case.

Depending on how a question is asked, virtually any answer can be gotten.

And there is the absolute truth!!! It will be used and abused by these maniacs to lure poor women and families. They already do in poor black famlies with abortion and their so called leaders tell them it’s ok.

Abortion and Stem cell research are not the same.
One is about killing a baby who could possibly survive
on its own. That is close to a pre-meditated murder as one can get. Stem cells as I understand them, are not something which could live on their own and if they save life of a living person or improve quality of life of a person to an extent where they would find it worthwhile to go on living, then I am open minded. Heck I have killed millions of my living sperms, but that was not a fetus capable of surviving. Like I said before, only people who are actually suffering from serious health maladies can opine on whether stem cell research is bad or good. I can’t and you can’t.

You repeat the old pro-abortion argument about babies who can or can't survive on their own. This has nothing to do with why abortion is wrong. Abortion is taking a human life whether or not the baby could survive on it's own. Their are many people, in and out of hospitals and care centers, who cannot "survive on their own". They should not be subject to being killed because of this.

If you believe a fetus is a living human being than killing the fetus cannot be justified by the potential medical advancements such killing may provide.

I do not have to be suffering from any medical problem to make the moral judgment that killing innocents for the potential benefit of others is wrong.

That's the same argument Carl Sagan made, and it's still a huge fallacy.

The problem with infant stem cell research is (1) It requires the abortion of the fetus, and (2) It encourages deliberate pregnancies and abortions to harvest the stem cells.

I didn’t say she hasn’t always been a Republican. I said she’s always been liberal.

Her father, Dr. Loyal Davis, was a prominent pro-abortion, liberal Republican.

I cannot comment on gassing Jews because no one in my family is German. It’s not possible for me to see the gassing-Jews issue from the perspective of the Germans. Only those who are directly involved—i.e., Germans—can have a valid point of view on the Jew-gassing issue.

Nancy was never a conservative. She just loved her hubby who was.

She is an old woman who has been duped into thinking embryonic stem cells would have saved Ronald.

He probably would have set her right. We don’t kill others in order to save ourselves, Nancy.

I’ve never seen any indication that Nancy Reagan was ever a deep thinker, a conservative, or political in any way. She seemed like an opportunist who hitched her wagon to a star and it worked for her. I don’t understand people who expect great and noble things from her; she doesn’t get it.

Once she said something about being lucky to have married Ronnie because it gave her a wonderful and exciting life. Nothing about him being a good or great man. She loved the glamour.

Nope! Big government has no business telling the mother what to do with her body if the fetus can only survive because of her body.

By your argument it should be illegal for a woman to undergo hysterectomy because she is killing potential life. By your argument it would be illegal for a man to masturbate since he is killing live sperms capable of producing life.

Sorry, I do not want big government to have that much power.

Now when the fetus has progressed to the point when it can be saved by any means including hospital intensive care, then I am 100% against aborting that life.

Who determines when the boundary is reached? That is a question which can be debated. I would guess no abortion should be legal after first trimester.

However I fully respect your decision not to have abortions in your own situation. Just don’t force your beliefs on all others using big government as the big stick.

How did Jews and Germans get involved in what I wrote? That is totally irrelevant to the subject under discussion.

That, my FRiend, is the very heart of the pro-abortion philosophy. Viability is a straw-man. No baby can live without it's mother or a surrogate. That does not mean they are not live humans. There is nothing "potential" about the life of an unborn baby. Take a look at a 4G sonogram, even of a first trimester baby. That is innocent human life.

I will pray for your eyes to be open.

Reductio ad absurdum.

It’s a valid form of refutation.

Look it up.

In order to get embryonic stem cells, you have to commit murder, because the embryonic stem cells come from the body of a living human being.
