Diabetes Blogger Experiences Joy Over O's Embryo Destruction Spending

Stem Cell Research Finally Unleashed! (Follow it via JDRF’s New Twitter) As a person with Type 1 diabetes, whose life is all wrapped up in helping others with this incurable illness, it’s hard to express the relief and yes — joy — that I feel knowing that researchers hands will finally be untied by Obama today to freely explore the enormous possibilities of stem cell research!

Fortunately for me, another journalist living with Type 1 named Mike Littwin at the Denver Post has just done an excellent job explaining “our viewpoint” and the ramifications in a column titled “Years Late, Science is on Top in DC.” Mike wears a pump and a CGM, and is grateful for the technology, but he feels like an android, he says. And he cannot understand those who refuse to “go where the science leads.” Bravo, Mike!

In case you somehow missed the big news, President Obama will be signing an Executive Order lifting the federal ban on funding embryonic stem cell research on Monday in a ceremony at the White House. JDRF has been sending out updates, and will have various volunteers and staff members on hand to represent the Foundation.

“This is a special moment for everyone who has worked so hard over the past decade. JDRF wants to make sure that, even though everyone that made this moment possible can’t be at the White House, we can get you as close as possible to the Oval Office!”

As a Type 1 Diabetes I am experiencing sorrow. I will stop donating to JDRF immediately and I hope others will too.

“researchers hands will finally be untied”

When were they tied? All that Bush did was keep my taxes from paying for more killing. Now, in addition to my neighbors mortgage, I have to pay so scientists can play Frankenstein on a bunch of human embryos.

here’s the issue. This was happening all along on a private funding level, from what I understand. All this did is stop government funding which now will be allowed. Scientists love it because now they don’t have to do the hard work to lobby for private funds but can now petition the gov for $ which it will easily dole out along with extra money for support. It’s jut more pork.

I hope the cure is found soon but just because there was a limit on federal funding doesn’t mean research wasn’t being conducted.

Be sure to tell them why.

Basically this fool woman is saying she's THRILLED to kill little babies if it may someday, possibly, mean a cure for her illness. But it may not (in fact it probably won't), she will still be ill, and the babies will be dead.

How cruel and thoughtless.

It has nothing to do with religion, or with religious beliefs, but it seems rather strange that a human would have such a callous attitude towards a developing member of the same species.
I would ask them what they think the embryo is. A dog? A sheep? An animal? A plant? No. Of course not.
Something non-living? Obviously not.
If it’s living, then what kind of a living creature is it? Animal? Plant? Extra-terrestrial? Human?

The whole fetal stem cell research idea reminds me of an old horror movie script where the femme fatale drinks the blood of virgins to stay attractive. The fact that someone could even think about grinding up unborn babies to do research makes me think of Hitler’s human experiments.

Exactly. Kind of like smoking pot for chemotherapy. Who can argue against a dying cancer patient wanting a little relief from pain. But that is not why it is an issue, it is used to rationalizes bad behavior.

I doubt it. That's just the side effect of what they really want, which is unlimited funding forever and ever.

Planned Parenthood doesn't much care about whether abortion results in dead babies, AIDS activist don't much care about AIDS patients, and all other special interest groups don't much care about their cause.

What they ALL care about is attaching themselves to the government tit for as much as they can.

It is time to re-read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. Here are some excerpts:

"These," he waved his hand, "are the incubators." And opening an insulated door he showed them racks upon racks of numbered test-tubes. "The week's supply of ova. Kept," he explained, "at blood heat; whereas the male gametes," and here he opened another door, "they have to be kept at thirty-five instead of thirty-seven. Full blood heat sterilizes." Rams wrapped in theremogene beget no lambs.

One egg, one embryo, one adult-normality. But a bokanovskified egg will bud, will proliferate, will divide. From eight to ninety-six buds, and every bud will grow into a perfectly formed embryo, and every embryo into a full-sized adult. Making ninety-six human beings grow where only one grew before. Progress.

My comment on the site (under my MoonbatBane sig):

The sole result of this change will be diversion of federal funding from politically boring adult stem cell reseach to politically useful (for the far left pro-abortion crowd) embryonic stem cell research. The biggest difference between these two is that adult stem cell research shows real potential and has led to some actual real-world treatments for real-world diseases (see, e.g., here: http://www.stemcellresearchfacts.com/cures_failures.html), while embryonic stem cell research mostly leads to horrific tumors and has led to ZERO real-world treatments. Therefore, while this change might be all feel-good, the result is going to be a negative for actual advancement of cures for diabetes and other diseases.

It is scary that someone whose very life is affected by this disease and whose very future might depend on good research in this area is so politically and scientifically ignorant. Wow, just wow.

Killing embryos or not, fetal stem cells are not the solution. Adult stemcell research is responsible for curing or successfully treating 85 or better conditions. By the same token, fetal stemcells, even before the research was ended HAVE PRODUCED NOTHING!

The real problem is medicine and medical research linked to treatment versus cure of diseases. All hail government mandated medical insurance, and the cut rate payments to doctors that turn practices from competitive businesses into patient mills.

“If you are not part of the solution, there is BIG MONEY to be made in prolonging the problem!”

Diana DeGette has a daughter with diabetes. I think she really believes a cure will come out of this.

One of my daughters came down with juvenile onset diabetes at age 13. That was 35 years ago. I pray that some miracle would produce a cure for this scourge which, like polio before Salk and Sabin, preys on innocent children.

I look for nothing to come of this hysteria. Those who are desperate tend to think that if only, if only, if only, they will rise from their sickbeds. Thus far there is nothing on the fetal stem cell horizon that will promises such a miracle.

T1 can be prevented in 80% cases just by dosing infants with 2000 IU’s of vitamin d3 during the first year. A +20 year from Finland confirms this finding. Some variant of this treatment will probably prevent the remaining 20%.
I would like to advise some T1 diabetics of the possibilty
of restoring pancreatic insulin function in long term T1 diabetic adults. It may be possible.

I wonder if 2 bible verses could apply to this embryonic research. They are Matthew 9:16 and 17. One is in reference to patching an old garment with new cloth, and the other is putting new wine in old wineskins.

Vs.16 says that if you sew a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. (NIV) Likewise, men do not put new wine into old wineskins, if they do, the skins will burst and the wine will run out. They put new wine into new wineskins and both are preserved. (NIV Jesus speaking).

Embryonic stem cells grow at a much faster rate that an adult body. This is what causes tumors to form in the adult body. So far the best results have been achieved by using adult stem cells from the person’s own body (no rejection factor to deal with). That is why private research money is going to adult stem cell research, not embryonic.

Just curious.
