Rush was just compared to Hanoi Jane by CBS Evening news.

Oh really? It must be the meme sent out by Rahm Emmanuel in the DNC talking points.

“Frank Schaeffer is the author of Crazy for God : how I grew up as one of the elect, helped found the Religious Right, and lived to take all (or almost all) of it back (New York: Carroll & Graff, 2007)”

that makes him the word of God...not

Yep,...I am seeing the comparison pop up all over. I emailed RUSH...I know -- he knew it long ago, but I feel better.

January, 1971: Jane Fonda raises funds for the Winter Soldier Investigation through a series of benefit concerts. Participants include Fonda, Dick Gregory, Donald Sutherland, Graham Nash, David Crosby and Phil Ochs. Fonda is named Honorary National Coordinator of the event.

February 16, 1971: Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland form "FTA" (F*** The Army), an anti-war, anti-American road show that tours near Army bases in order to undermine troop morale. Skits and songs portray American defeats, soldiers refusing to fight, and the murder of officers by their troops. FTA cast members mingle with soldiers after the shows, encouraging them to desert or to sabotage the Army.

2009!!! FONDA STILL AT IT!! (in New York City, February, 2009)

From her website...

Rare Screening of Restored Archival Print of Classic Vietnam War-Era Documentary

What: Screening of FTA
When: Monday, February 2, 2009
7:00pm, 9:15pm
Where: IFC Center (map)
323 Sixth Avenue
New York, NY, US 10014

With Former FTA Cast Member Jane Fonda in Person
Monday, February 2 at 7:00pm and 9:15pm
7:00pm show sold out!

FTA (1972, Francine Parker), the Vietnam War-era documentary, will have an ultra-rare screening in a restored archival print with former FTA cast member Jane Fonda in person, Monday, February 2 at 7:00pm and 9:15pm; the 7:00pm show is sold out. Following the screening, Ms. Fonda will talk about the film and her work in the controversial antiwar touring show in a discussion moderated by David Zeiger, director of the recent documentary Sir! No Sir! A portion of the proceeds from the evening will benefit Iraq Veterans against the War, a nonprofit organization that advocates for ending the war and for providing support to returning service members.

Virtually unseen in any format since a brief theatrical run in 1972, FTA documents "the show the Pentagon couldn't stop." The revue, whose letters were said to stand both for Free Theater Associates and also Free (or, at times, another F-word) The Army, brought antiwar entertainment to military personnel at the height of Vietnam. Performers like Ms. Fonda, Donald Sutherland and Holly Near toured towns near military bases around the US and overseas, lending their support to troops who opposed the war. The film follows the troupe as it travels and performs near US military bases on the Pacific Rim -- Hawaii, Okinawa, the Philippines -- encouraging opposition to the war among the rank-and-file of US forces.

FTA is a gritty mix of rollicking performances and GI interviews, juxtaposing lighthearted political satire with the somber realities of war, occupation, and the absurdities of military life, a barbed rebuke to the staid USO program. From Okinawa to the Philippines, stirred by the show's provocative message, the members of the U.S. military find courage to speak out candidly in front of the camera.

Fonda and Sutherland are joined on stage by an all-star cast of musicians and activists including folk musician Len Chandler and comedian Paul Mooney. A fresh look at the Vietnam anti-war movement through the songs and skits that shook a generation, this film will leave you singing along with the fired-up men and women of the military. Foxtrot, Tango, Alpha... F*** the Army!

Print courtesy of the Academy Film Archive.

Tickets: $12 IFC Center members, $15 general admission.

I didn’t think my day could get worse.

Reading about Joe Biden thinking there are “moderate” Taliban.

Seeing the Senate just pass, BY VOICE VOTE, a $ 410 billion bill, after the cloture vote of 62 for, and 35 against. It is obvious they listen only to themselves—there went five phone calls to each Senator in the past two weeks down the drain.

Reading Jack Cafferty’s screed against Rush, and having him and CBS News call Rush Hanoi Jane.

Hearing the military mom’s voice crack on Rush Limbaugh talking about the sacrifice of her children serving a Commander in Chief she has no faith in to protect them.

Still being depressed that our President, in the presence of a cheering crowd, signed yesterday an EO sending thousands and thousands of human beings to death, all in the name of a “science” which has been unproven.

Now you tell me that this Frank Schaeffer is the SON of Frank and Edith Schaeffer of L’Abry?

Frank Schaeffer, the dad, was the one who thirty years ago, correctly forecasted the cultural war we are in now. Some then called him extreme, but he was dead on.

After today, and the fifty days of outrage of this Administration so far, it is clear that this is not going to end well.

We are in 1860 all over again. It won’t be blue vs. grey this time.

It will be blue vs. red.

I never thought it could be, here in America.

But I have lived the last 35 years as an adult, and the America I grew up in is now a distant memory.

We are in the midst of change of historic proportions, not unlike 1860 America or 1933 Germany.

The propaganda, Alinsky rules, and Cloward-Piven strategy are all out there and functioning full throttle.

There is no mass of patriotic Americans in place to just absorb the radicalism as in the past, and render it moot.

Now, we will have to resist with all our might.

We conservatives and Christians will be the Jews of the new order holocaust Obama has in mind for us.

God help us.

Nice summary.

I guess this is what comes of hanging out with European “intellectuals” for most of his young life.

“When was Frank Schaeffer ever a Republican?”

You ever notice that he mentions his “former Republican” credentials in literally every article he writes? He does this more often than Jesse Jackson plays the race card. It reminds me of the quote from Hamlet: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

To show you how often he does it, I kept a collection of excerpts:

Why This Fifty-Five Year Old White Lifelong Republican Wants Obama To Win

As a lifelong Republican (who reregistered as an independent out of disgust with the dirty-tricks, hate-filled Rovian Republican Party), as a former right-wing activist

Note: I say this as a former lifelong Republican

As a lifelong Republican conservative one of the reasons I left the Republican Party and reregistered as an independent voter was the fact that American “conservatism” seems more and more made up of pigs who wouldn’t know what gentlemanly behavior consists of if it bit them in their “fleshy parts,”

some like me — a white middle class 55-year-old lifelong Republican, now reregistered as an independent

Back in the days when I was a lifelong Republican

and as a former lifelong Republican, and as a former McCain supporter

I have an insider’s perspective on both the military benefits and evangelical-support-for-Israel issues: I was a lifelong Republican

As the son of a pastor, as a former lifelong Republican, as a white 55-year-old middle class, gun-owning male, as a practicing and believing Christian

As both a military parent of a Marine, a former lifelong Republican

many older folks like me — a white middle class and middle aged male and former life-long Republican

As a former lifelong Republican, as an activist key in the formation of the Religious Right, as a white middle-aged middle-class man who is an avid supporter of Senator Obama

This life-long Republican white man is moved, humbled and changed.

(I say this as a lifelong Republican who worked to get McCain elected in the 2000 primaries.)

I was a lifelong Republican (now reregistered as an Independent)

Disclosure: I was raised in the evangelical right wing, left and in 1990, converted to the Greek Orthodox Church and also changed from a lifelong Republican to an Independent voter, who is an Obama supporter

So, I know something about the Republican Party having been a lifelong Republican until recently when, disgusted with the dirty tricks perpetrated by Rove and others, I quit and registered as an independent voter.

As you know I was a lifelong Republican until I reregistered as an Independent in 2006, after I just couldn’t take the Rove brigade’s dirty tricks, lies and slime any longer

In 2000, as a lifelong Republican

As a lifelong Republican (until I re-registered as an independent voter in 2006),

The Republican Party—and I speak as a former lifelong Republican who, up through the 2000 primary campaign supported John McCain

Author’s Note: I happen to be a white, male, fifty-seven-year-old former lifelong Republican. Obama is the first Democratic Party presidential candidate I ever voted for.

As a former lifelong Republican, son of a co-founder of the Religious Right

I used to be one of you. As recently as 2000 I worked to get Senator McCain elected in that year’s primary. (McCain and Gen. Tommy Franks wrote glowing endorsements regarding my book about military service, AWOL.). I have a file of handwritten thank you notes from Presidents Ford, Reagan, Bush I and II. In the 1970s and early 80s I hung out with Jack Kemp and bought into his “supply side” myth and even wrote a book he endorsed pushing his ideas.) There’s more, but take it from me; my parents (evangelical leaders Francis and Edith Schaeffer) and I were about as tight with — and useful to — the Republican Party as anyone. We played a big part creating the Religious Right. In the mid 1980s I left the Religious Right
