WASHINGTON – A day after his White House meeting with President Barack Obama, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called the United States a "deadbeat" donor to the world body while making the made the rounds on Capitol Hill.

Ban's criticism Wednesday of the U.N.'s single biggest backer irked some members of the House Foreign Relations Committee. They were generally supportive of his leadership but voiced concern about U.N. efforts in areas from Sudan to Somalia.

"He used the word 'deadbeat' when it came to characterizing the United States. I take great umbrage (over) that," Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the panel's senior Republican, said after an hour-long, closed-door meeting. "We certainly contribute a whole lot of U.S. taxpayer dollars to that organization. We do not deserve such a phrase.

Interviewed after the session, Ban said he had wanted to draw attention to the fact that the U.S. agrees to pay 22 percent of the U.N.'s $4.86 billion operating budget, but is perennially late with its dues — and now is about $1 billion behind on its payments.

Because it’s NYC, mgc. Bloomberg is a Socialist.

A good mayor would demand that every UN official pay their parking tickets before they’re allowed to land. At least I would.

“I don’t care who the heck you are, or if you go down in the Atlantic. You’re not landing in my city until the fines are paid.”

Before becoming Secretary-General, Ban was a career diplomat in South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the United Nations. He entered diplomatic service the year he graduated from college, accepting his first post in New Delhi.

So he's basically never had a real job. Figures

The perfect excuse to boot their asses the hell out of NY and the USA.

Let the corrupt, thieving, bastards open up shop in Europe. Good thing I wasn’t sitting there when this idiot made that remark. I would have read him the riot act and brought up every corrupt episode the UN was involved in to the fore starting with O for F.

These corrupt weasels have thrown away trillions throughout the sorry existence of this joke of an organization.

How about this? We divide the

annual budget $4,860,000,000 by the member nations 192
and pay $25,312,500 and call it even U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Better yet, how about refunding previous payments and get the 4377 out of the US.

Same old same old. New president. Time for the Chinese to pick a fight with us over control of the South China Sea and for the UN to hit us up for our (ie China’s) money. I’m beginning to have more respect for the treacherous red Chinese. Both the US and it’s pet coachroach, the UN, are living a lie.
