No more love for Lucy?
Ryan Jaroncyk
For over the last 30 years, the supposedly 3 . 2 Ma old Australopithecus afarensis specimen known as Lucy has been boldly proclaimed as the ancestor of all humanity in magazines, television shows, books, newspapers and museums. However, Tel Aviv University anthropologists have published a study casting serious doubt on Lucys role as mankinds ape ancestor.1 Based on a comparative analysis of jaw bones in living and extinct primates, researchers concluded that Lucy and members of her kind should be placed as the beginning of the branch that evolved in parallel to ours. In other words, Lucy should no longer be considered to be our direct ancestor. Lucys demise falsifies 33 years of evolutionary hyperbole and propaganda...

Only Little Ricky and his descendants can claim Lucy as a direct ancestor.
To: GodGunsGuts
If we are all descended from her, than I want my ancestor’s bones back.

Indeed. The presence of australopithocine, a fully bipedal primate with the brain the size of a chimp, is itself a powerful testament to the evolution of primates and the change from knuckle walking to bipedalism. It really doesn’t matter one bit if Lucy is a human ancestor or the start of a branch that died out for the evidence of Australopithocine to show that apes were changing and evolving at a time when there were no human beings.

So let me get this straight. Creationists don't believe in evolution but they state that Lucy is from a different evolutionary line than modern man? Hmmm. FWIW, she's being displayed in Seattle and I saw her last week. Most of the presentation consists of Ethiopian religious history and artifacts, but she's the climax display. For me, it was a moving experience.

Pikers, compared to evos. Not really the difference is that we and the rest of the planet ARE the result of natural selection or whatever you want to call it
and Global warming is just plain bull, fortified by huge grants for those who would try to prove it.

Neither "Lucy" nor any other ape or hominid is related to us via any process resembling evolution. The neanderthal has been ruled out as a plausible human ancestor precisely because the genetic gulf is too wide and the gulf between us and all other hominids other than the neanderthal is wider.
"Lucy" is said to be a human ancestor because human or near human footprints were found near her remains and are assumed to be 3M years old because of that fact, i.e. via circular reasoning. The truth of the matter is that the human footprints belonged to a human considerably less than 3M years ago and "Lucy" in all likelihood was that human's pet monkey.
Evolution is garbage science and as garbage science goes a spectacularly evil and dangerous variety, with two world wars and something like 200M - 300M dead bodies lying around to its credit. It's way past time evolutionism was gotten rid of.

The point is that there was a common ancestor.
