Remember when Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin accused journalist Katie Couric of "exploiting" their disastrous exchange the one in which Palin couldnt name some of running mate John McCains policies? Courics work obviously paid off, because the 52-year-old today received the prestigious Walter Cronkite Award for the exchange. The Baltimore Sun elaborates:
"Couric, who weathered one of network TVs most criticized anchor-desk launches when she took over from interim anchor Bob Schieffer, was named winner of the University of Southern Californias Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in TV Political Journalism for her focused and illuminating interviews with Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin. The award is given by the Lear Center in the School of Journalism.
"And then, Couric and CBS News withstood a withering attack from the right angered by seeing their candidate so exposed."
No word on whether Palin plans on sending her congratulations, although were not holding our breath.

Cronkite wasn't just wrong on Tet.
The first couple of days, he might have been merely "wrong".
After that, he was lying: deliberately, willfully, and with malice aforethought.

I truly hope that conservatives remember these days...and hopefully when we take back our country we will have zero tolerance and no quarter for these liberal scum that are trying to destroy the earth.
Remember they are the ones that are intolerant and have tried to force feed this agenda down our throats...we need to jump on the righteous wind and put down this scourge on humanity.

It was an overall unfair interview. Asking her what she reads off the cuff and what supreme court rulings she does not agree with is unfair the way asked. If she asked them in a less snotty type way it might have allowed Sarah to give an answer.

BTW, it was the financial crisis not the Couric interview, that was the defining moment in the past presidential campaign. And McCain blew it.

It was a hideously bad interview on Palin's part, and she shouldn't have done it. Palin, more than anyone else, understands that she screwed up and gave the impression that she wasn't ready for prime time.
Republicans need to only do live interviews. The Palin/Couric interview was emblematic of the galactic cluelessness of the McCain Campaign-their handling of Palin was atrocious, and it showed. Had she been able to communicate by talking to Rush, Hannity, and Fox first, that would have allowed her to get ready for far more partisan and hostile interviewers.
Republicans always have to assume that the Mainstream Press is in the Enemy Camp. McCain didn't. He trusted them. Now he's out on his ass.
Here's a prediction. Sarah Palin won't make that mistake.
Best,
Chris

it was unfair but if you cant handle Katie Couric then you probably wont be able to handle Putin or Achmedinijad. Peter Kafka pointed to a report from Portfolio.coms Jeff Bercovici who was told by Couric that she consulted with the Democrat opposition before ambushing Palin. Couric shed some light on her preparation for the interviews: Beforehand, she sought advice from former senator Sam Nunn and Council on Foreign Relations president Richard Haas. They told her to draw Palin out on her geopolitical worldview and urged her to let the governor speak at length without interrupting her. Maybe she should bring them along with her when she takes over at Meet the Press? Kafka notes that the origin of this quote has since been pulled and is no longer available online.-- DakotaVoice.
True, one should be able to handle an interview from the Perky one; but the 'set up was in" with help from the opposition...which was to sway an election away from Palin. Objective reporting from a much longer interview was amiss; and cut and paste took over for the intended mockery to humiliate.
Seems a women is always another woman's worst nightmare.
Plus we know the relationship between Obama and the Annenbergs. This award was just a thank you from the Obama folks.

Here's a prediction. Sarah Palin won't ... run again for national office. I hope you're wrong. Palin is one of the few people I can think of who would run for the right reason. Her motivation seemed to be that she could do the job well and we need her. That's a whole lot better than Obama/Clinton who just want power, and it's a lot better than "I guess it's my turn" McCain, who didn't seem to want it.

Now we have a teleprompter addict in office courtesy of Axlerod? Press corps are left without interviews. Obama sure in H wouldn't debate Rush..a mere radio host. No one debates with Rush, for that matter face to face. I doubt Rush ever expected Obama to. Was just a saber rattling homie to homie call out! Would be different if Rush were a TV personality like Larry King or Barbara Walters or Katie Couric!
