Report: Bristol Palin and Fiancé Split
TODAY ^ | 03.11.09 | STAFF

Posted on 03/11/2009 3:47:01 PM PDT by fight_truth_decay

The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'

Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.

The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.

"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."

Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."

Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

Liberals have decided that fathers are not needed for children. It’s a sad day when conservatives think the same thing. Honestly, they are young and under a lot of pressure because their life is played out on camera. No one can take the rightful place of a father. It is God’s way. The liberals have won the battle of making a father unnecessary, except for monthly payments from which the states make a great deal of cash. Plus, the family break ups- it’s a liberal two-fer.

So you’re saying every couple that gets divorced should give up their children? I wonder how the divorced parents on FR feel about that?

"That's the difference between a boy and a man. A man cultivates fidelity, honor, trustworthiness, self-discipline. A boy cares nothing about such things."

well...not all boys

If a mother truly loves her child, the decision to give the baby up for adoption to an intact family is the most selfless act she can do.

I'm sorry, but that's just crazy. Over my cold dead body, holding a smoking gun, would you or people like you "shame" me into giving up my child, husband or no husband.

>>We need to get rid of the idea that getting married just because of an accidental pregnancy is “the right thing to do.”<<

I didn’t say they should get married.
I said that she should give the baby up for adoption.

Many children are being raised by their mothers in the homes of their grandparents. These extended families are usually very happy, at least the ones I know.

I agree that this should be none our (the public's business). But I still think standards need to be upheld, even while recognizing that as mere humans we will fail them at times. For the real world example of why I see it that way, come on over to the Black community. Where 70% of our children are born out of wedlock. Yes, the kids are fine, but it's a drain on us as individuals and as groups. I really don't like that the golden years of elder generations are sapped away helping or, in fact, raising their grandchildren. It works, but it's not the best situation on a large scale.

I’m not saying that at all. But what you are saying is single parents should lose parental rights automatically. And that is wrong. I don’t care what side of the political fence you’re on.

Don’t bother with the people just parroting the latest Coulter line (nothing against Coulter, she’s a great attack machine, but she has dug herself in with that generalized attack on single mothers).

Nope, you are putting words in my mouth. There is a major difference between a couple who have given it a shot and a young couple with no commitment.

Great. But you know what a baby needs? A mom and a dad.

I completely agree with you.

She is very mature for her age—she has grown up fast.

Having a baby before you have a college education and when you're not married is now considered mature? Yikes! Our society may be in more trouble than I imagined.

“Liberals have decided that fathers are not needed for children. It’s a sad day when conservatives think the same thing.”

and they are also now feminists who want to break the “glass ceiling”

So, if like our good friend Philus had wanted, they got married and then divorce right away, would that have been ok with you? How does a marriage license prove that they ‘gave it a shot?’

That's why people in the R middle D go to "the dark side". I think you and I live on the same planet. I am taken back by some statements here. Was not my intent to have a Bristol bashing or snatching kids out of loving homes because an outsider is sitting on their High Place in life having lived in their own personal bubble.

Sorry, you are crazy. So you recommend giving away your kid even INSTEAD of marrying!? Hello?

Fine. I’ll accept an I.O.U. pending the official announcement.

>>would you or people like you “shame” me into giving up my child, husband or no husband. <<

Hmmm, that’s pretty self centered. Don’t you want the best for your child?

I sat in that position. Where it was giving up my baby to a great couple or keeping her for poverty.

I took the high road. You think of it as shame. I think of it as love. And let me tell you something else. I have a cousin that was given up by my aunt for the same reason. When they got back together, my cousin was SO proud of her biological mother.

So really, it’s not all about the mom, is it?
