I see our buddy was banned, it appears not just suspended but banned. Don’t mess with Sarah! :)
Your point is so relevant, sins of arrogance, being judgmental, prideful, sad thing is this person is probably someone who thinks they’ve risen above sin. Christians are not perfect - just forgiven - not that we shouldn’t always strive to rise above sin but most Christians realize we WILL always fall short and that’s why we understand when others also fall short. We should also understand Philo and where he has fallen short on his walk with Christ. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”.
Ah well, good riddance to bad rubbish (now that wasn’t very charitable or Christianlike was it?) I’m not changing it, he is like a bad cop, above the law. We all sin, we all fall short.
Yes, I have read it. It's an excellent book because it shows that the struggles of Mother Theresa intertwined with her faith and helped her form spiritual strength. It's a bittersweet book and also a great exploration of the tenets of the Catholic faith.
The book includes one of the most powerful speeches regarding abortion:
"I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing, direct murder by the mother herself, and I find the unborn child to be the poorest of the poor today -- the most unloved -- the most unwanted, the throwaway of the society." She was a genuine advocate of the poor, concentrating on both social and spiritual aspects of their plight.
For years, I had this prayer by her on my profile page:
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies;
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
~ Mother Teresa
Gotta check out dinner before it burns. :-)
You know you’ll miss him.
I don’t like that we’re fighting amongst ourselves. It serves no positive purpose, imo.
ITA with your post.
I do get what you’re saying but don’t agree completely (not that I have to agree, of course).
“The problem with Bristol Palin isnt so much what she did as what she symbolizes and creates”
I don’t think she symbolizes anything or creates anything. A pregnant teen (17/18 in her case) isn’t anything new. She’s from a family that is going to help, not rely on taxpayer money/welfare, etc. Sort of like many families did prior to the welfare state that was created. The father is going to be involved/be a father to the baby (as far as I know).
Few are willing to address illegitimacy and where it really occurs in our society because it’s not PC to do so. The main problem is occurring in the black community where fathers are no longer considered important due to the government being the financial supporter. Also, in other communities, minorities and poor whites, because again the government is providing the financial support. Take away that financial support and things could very well change. Attitudes would change, imo. We have an increasing population that isn’t held responsible (mostly finanacially) for their behavior. It’s not just kids either. Far more adults have no clue about being responsible.
We have always had illegitimacy, or those becoming pregnant, and families had to deal with that in whatever way they dealt with it. Some were forced to marry (not exactly a good thing either), some were forced to give their children up for adoption (again, not the feel good, great thing it’s made out to be).
I don’t think Conservatives or any political party should be regarded as defenders of “family values.” There’s some so called conservatives I wouldn’t want defending any values even family values. It’s a slippery slope type of thing from my perspective. The Democrat party became the pro abortion and pro gay rights party. Both parties are marginalizing and it’s not helping our country.
I think people should be individuals and the government shouldn’t be involved, in any way, in dictating or supporting so many of the current social programs or the latest fad or pet issue of whatever group. Our nation is “dying” because far too many are counting on the government to fix whatever social ills exist and whatever social ills individuals have experienced. I’m far more concerned with what I’ve seen by individuals and the lack of accountablility, and our rights being taken away incrementally by a government growing incredibly large.
Happy early St. Patty’s day to you, too :)
Thanks :). I read about her on here but don’t know much about her (other than she’s a conservative, adopted a baby, and isn’t married from what I recall).
"Non-state enformement"? What, like a posse? :: snort ::
Now who's using a straw man?
I stand by my post - you can't separate state enforcement from your position.
You're sputtering, thugmom. Want to bench me at recess, too?
Just because you are unable to control your anger and act appropriately in situations where anger is justified, does not mean that other lack your self-control. One of the defining aspects of maturity is the ability to accept, control and USE appropriate anger, and yes, dealing with child-abusing fathers is one of those topics.
Remaining cool and detached towards such a scenario, without acknowledging rightious anger, is not remaining "positive" and avoiding "negativity." Instead, it is precisely the cringing, cowardly, co-dependent attitude that has enabled thousands of these thugs - and thugmoms - to go on betraying and destroying their children's lives. It has also disempowered women from getting in touch with a vital energy that they could call upon to protect both themselves and their children.
This PC smearing of appropriate anger, under the guise of calling it "negativity," is mainly done by liberals and especially members of the public teaching profession. And it is insidious and even evil, and I reject it entirely. To not be "negative" when "negativity" is called for is to either be a coward, evil, or insane. So you can stuff your name-calling and passive-aggressive verbal baiting.
Not to mention that what you call "inflammatory bitterness" is merely me affirming that an abusive father should be cut off from the children he is abusing, or that a mother shouldn't be forced to give up the child she loves merely because the father didn't want to marry her.
But you're hardly unique. I've worked with abused children, and I've met many co-dependent "mothers," whose husbands could do not wrong and into who's fists these "mothers" returned their children time after time. It's utterly depraved, and so are your efforts to protect and hide these abusive cowards.
Yet you're right about one thing - "thugmoms" everywhere do in fact find me to be reliably angry, inflammatory, bitter and negative towards those who prey on children and loving mothers.
And on behalf of the children I've helped, I promise that will never change.

Looks like Philo-Junius has experienced the non-state enforcement of social norms.
