Number of Ex-Gitmo Prisoners Rejoining Terror Higher Than Reported

The number of ex-Guantanamo detainees who have gone back to terrorism is much larger than the government is letting on.
A senior intelligence official, who has access to some of the country's top secrets, tells HUMAN EVENTS that some Pentagon analysts actually believe 102 former enemy combatants have returned to terror -- not 61 as publicly reported by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).
That would mean that of 520 terrorists released from the Guantanamo Bay prison, nearly 20 percent returned to the practice of killing to achieve their radical view of Islam.
The number is gaining importance in light of the fact that President Obama has announced he intends to close the Guantanamo facility. This means scores of additional detainees not deemed releasable by the Pentagon -- at least until now -- will be sent back to their home countries. It also sends a signal to countries now holding ex-Guantanomo prisoners that it might be OK to release them, too.
Why the discrepancy between 102 and 61?

By the way, in case you do not know already, the Obama administration promised more than a month ago to release further information on what it said then were 62 that had returned to the fight. They are stalling the on FOI requests.

The Obama Administration LIED. People DIED.
I knew it was BULLSTALIN from day one because there had already been a number of Gitmo detainees who'd detonated themselves in publi afterwards who did not appear in the tallies.
I loathe the Left. They support the enemy in the war on terror (directly by releasing and championing terrorists and indirectly through aid and comfort propaganda).

Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys surround us.
They oppose the war not because it is "immoral" but rather because they support the enemy.

Setting up a website criticizing the US is considered “re-joining the fight.” I wonder how many have taken up arms.

Thank you, President Bush, for your ridiculous way of handling these captives, choosing to play games instead of treating them in accordance with law.

"Afghanistan Taliban leader was at Gitmo"
"The Taliban's new top operations officer in southern Afghanistan had been a prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention center,
the latest example of a freed detainee who took a militant leadership role and a potential complication for the Obama administration's efforts to close the prison.
U.S. authorities handed over the detainee to the Afghan government,
which in turn released him, according to Pentagon and CIA officials.
Abdullah Ghulam Rasoul, formerly Guantanamo prisoner No. 008,
was among 13 Afghan prisoners released to the Afghan government in December 2007.
Rasoul is now known as Mullah Abdullah Zakir, a nom de guerre that Pentagon
and intelligence officials say is used by a Taliban leader who is in charge of operations
against U.S. and Afghan forces in southern Afghanistan."
Taliban says Pres_ _ent (no ID, is there?) Obama and his clueless VP are "illogical".
"Obama being illogical - Taliban"
"This does not require any response or reaction for this is illogical," Qari Mohammad Yousuf,
a purported spokesman for the insurgent group, said when asked
if its top leader Mullah Mohammad Omar would make any comment about Mr Obama's proposal.
"The Taliban are united, have one leader, one aim, one policy...
I do not know why they are talking about moderate Taliban and what it means?
What would those murdered by terrorists say about this?

I think your definition is wrong. Those they have already identified took up arms; not a computer.

That’s the implication in this story.
But the December DIA report listing 61 (18 confirmed, 43 suspected) does not even claim they were all taking up arms. After getting that part wrong, this article then cites “unnamed sources” to bump the numbers up higher.

There are currently a number of media outlets with FOIs on this story. As I noted in comment #1, the Obama administration is stonewalling on releasing information, 30 named detainees who have returned to the fight with details. (My sources say the number is a good bit higher than 102.)
