GOP's Steele clarifies his opposition to abortion
Yahoo ^ | March 12, 2009

Posted on 03/12/2009 1:07:03 PM PDT by Red Steel

WASHINGTON – GOP national chairman Michael Steele said Thursday that he's opposed to abortion and that Roe v. Wade should be repealed, commenting a day after a magazine quoted him as saying abortion was "an individual choice." Steele clarified his stance in a written statement after online publication of the interview with GQ magazine.

Steele, who is adopted, said in the interview that his mother had the option of getting an abortion or giving birth.

He said: "You can choose life, or you can choose abortion." He said his mother chose life.

Asked whether he thought women had the right to choose abortion, Steele said: "Yeah. I mean, again, I think that's an individual choice."

Steele was elected chairman of the National Republican Committee in January. He describes himself as "prolife."

Steele needs to shut his yap to the press and start working on the house of the GOP.

Every time he talks he’s gotta clarify either to become politically correct or to cover his tracks so he doesn’t look like a RINO. Then when he does he has to go back and clarify it again or apologize.

Regardless of whether he's a real conservative or a RINO, I find the fact that he has to keep clarifying him remarks and looks like an idiot even more troubling than the concern that he's not really a conservative.

Yes, his mother could have chosen to get an ILLEGAL abortion. Back when it was considered MURDER to kill your unborn child.

What a putz.

Whether Steele will be given a reprieve from the knives out for him will be determined by whether Jim Tedisco holds on to win the House seat in NY State after he has been ahead in the polls most of the way. If he loses Steele may be toast.

I’ve never seen a TRUE Conservative have to “clarify” their position on ANYTHING.

If you have to qualify and quibble, your argument and your commitment is lacking.

One cannot “clarify” his position on abortion: he is either for extermination of children in the womb or he is not. There is no middle ground.

Steele was speaking in terms of the "what is" world, not the "what ought to be" world.

Of course having an abortion is an individual choice ~ a bad choice in fact ~ something that will always send you to Hell since, after all, your target was totally innocent.

Just the way it is.

I do not recall ever hearing this former seminary student advocating abortion. On the other hand, we have a President who thinks it's never too late to kill babies. His Democrat predecessor, Billzo Clinton, is still not sure how fertilization happens.

RNC Chair is a RINO, he is pro-choice and anti-gun rights.

He helped start a group with Wittmen for pro-choice moderate republicans. The RNC ignored conservatives with their choice of Steele.

Who will he insult next? Gun-owners?? Anti-illegal alien people??

If Steele partnered with that idiot Chrissie Whitman and her bagman in their PAC to back “moderate” Republicans and oppose people like Oliver North, I will continue to dump requests for support from the National GOP into the recycling.

WHitman is so far left she should join the Socialist Party. Guess nobody told her rich jerks can be leftists. She should meet with Soros for some pointers.

We need a Chair like Duncan Hunter or Newt Gingrich.

This explains a lot why Der-Erlich made him ass-gov. Der-Erlich was a pro-murder Repub, and we took him as being as good as we could get, accepting that Rusty was pro-life.

This is why I no longer claim to be a Republican and only claim conservatism. This is also why I refuse to eat the doodoo sandwiches the Republican National Commitee want to feed us.

I am done accepting 25 years of “As good as we can get”. You either give me the candidate I want, or you don’t get my vote.

Steele was simply saying one can choose life, or one can choose death (abortion). He has always made it clear he is pro life. His words are being twisted to put him at odds with the conservative base as a phony controversy. The left is always good at this.

The GOP seems trying to neuter abortion in National elections considering all the pro-choice Governors. Maybe it’s part of a 50 State solution to break out of the Bible belt and the corn belt. Guiliani, the waste, was leading the pack at one time. A lot of the GOP is willing to throw abortion under the campaign bus.
