Editorial: UC Berkeley wise to research right-wing movements

AT A TIME WHEN the nation has turned to the left, one of the more liberal universities in the nation will be studying right-wing movements. Although the timing is odd, investigation of the right is a welcome academic pursuit.

Thanks to an anonymous $777,000 donation a Center for the Comparative Study of Right-wing Movements will be established at UC Berkeley. Researchers will analyze right-wing groups in the United States and abroad and compare them.

Larry Rosenthal, a sociologist who will oversee the center, is on target in saying that conservative movements have been overlooked in academia, which tends to be populated by left-leaning professors. University studies generally have focused on liberal movements.

. . .

More research about right-wing groups is long overdue. In many national polls over the past few decades, more Americans consider themselves conservative than liberal, although they may disagree on what it is to be conservative.

We trust that the center will be comprehensive and objective in its study of right-wing movements and will be able to shed light on their diversity of thought as well as the impact they have had on policies in the United States and abroad.

UC wants to be first-in-line to be a re-education center under this new, Stalinist regime.

Who knows, pigs could fly and the professors might find some merit to the movements they are studying. Not likely though.

Are they going to refit their computer keyboards with a “Hitler” key? It would save them an awful lot of typing time.

Berkley, “Lets develop of list of right wing opposition at all levels of society and submit to mastah Odooma for the great purge.”

This has already had a final report. They are simply keeping it under wrapps until the requisite times goes by to then “lay it all out.” And like the National Education Association they will make Focus on the Family equal to Ne-Nazi groups. The Family Research Council will be equaled to the Klan and on and on and on...

$777,777 sounds like a Soros number.

It should have been 666,666

They're vile, racist, homophobic, xenophobes....

What will a liberal college research team conclude about right-wing movements?

Why would anyone who is not totally insane donate money to have a Berkeley sociologist oversee “study” of conservative groups? Before they even start it is obvious what the conclusions will be. Other than training a new leftist secret police there is no purpose in this whatsoever.

Hello, Gulag! Many of those who were sent to Soviet gulags were sent there because they were “mentally ill” which of course was a euphemism for someone who disagrees with us. The Left is dangerously close to that line of reasoning.

“the RESISTANCE is under surveillance!”

Could this be fear on their part? I think the far left does fear conservatism, that logically explains some of their actions.-—JM

Probably one of those unnamed allocations in the Obama Porkulus bill.

We get to pay for some leftwing nuts to study us.

And, of course, when they are finished, they will do the same for left-wing groups. Won’t they?

First thing they should study/investigate, is where their $777,000 funding came from.

Yeah, studying the subversiveness of following the Constitution will be the new “in” thing. Count on it.

" is on target in saying that conservative movements have been overlooked in academia, which tends to be populated by left-leaning professors. University studies generally have focused on liberal movements."

Unfortunately, self-examination is not always objective.
You don't hear many liberals or lefties analyzing the utopian mythology and millenarianism of their ideology. The utopian aspects of socialism, liberalism, and secular humanism.
