Simple. Because the threshold for such brutality would widen and widen until people are being lobotomized for being conservative. Just shut the programs down and lock the psychopaths up or execute the chronic molesters.

It’s the same slippery slope. Communist countries have routinely locked up political dissidents in “mental hospitals” or executed them as “criminals”. We need to be vigilant about the judicial processes for convicting anyone of a crime or declaring anyone mentally incompetent. But frankly many of these cases are open-and-shut, with a combination of physical evidence, witnesses, and confessions — and we STILL don’t apply the needed treatment.
