LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A building materials company and its owner have appealed a $12.6 million verdict against them, alleging that a juror posted messages on Twitter.com during the trial that show he's biased against them.

The motion seeking a new trial was filed Thursday on behalf of Russell Wright and his company, Stoam Holdings. It claims juror Johnathan Powell sent eight messages — or "tweets" — to the micro-blogging Web site via his cellular phone.

Yeah. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I hadn’t seen anything quite like this before.

Definitely unrepentant:

"I didn't really do anything wrong, so it's kind of crazy that they're trying to use this to get the case thrown out," Powell said. "I understand where they're coming from, they lost over $12 million."

This is funny. I just signed up for Twitter yesterday. Today I discovered that there is a FreeRepublic Twitter feed, and began “following” it. I installed a Twitter app in my Firefox browser, got it configured and running, and it started flashing “tweets” in the corner of my browser. And that is how I saw this story on Free Republic - via a tweet from Twitter. Oh, the irony!!

: )

You have to be very careful when you post on Twitter, Facebook or any site where your identity is known.

Some reporters have posted prejudiced political comments on Twitter and Facebook that have been found and used against them.

How I ran into the story is a lot more pedestrian, I must admit!

I figure the connections can always be made, if the bot is persistent and sophisticated enough.
