Irey approached to run against Specter
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | February 26, 2009

Several Republican conservative fundraisers have approached Washington County Commissioner Diana Irey to ask her to consider a primary run against Sen. Arlen Specter.

Sources confirm they have offered to help her raise money.

One strategist said of the close-door meeting the conservative group was particularly impressed that when Irey went up against Rep. Jack Murtha, D-Johnstown, in the 2006 midterm primaries, she was able to raise between $300 to $400K online.

I thought Toomey let the cat out of the bag that he’d run?

Wasn’t a vet named Toomey tapped to do this?

Toomney hasn’t made a final decision yet. I hope he doesn’t run. He’s a free trader (a big loser in PA) and, if I’m not mistaken, doesn’t live in Pennsylvania.

Toomey Can Put Specter Out of GOP’s Misery

“I am very likely to make a run for the Senate,” says Pat Toomey, a former Keystone State congressman and free-market stalwart.

I'd hate to see Specter win in a three way primary. Protectionism reminds me of the 1930s & Smoot-Hawley.

I don't see how a conservative is going to win in Penna. Rick Santorum got his rear end handed to him in the last election.

Irey is one of the few politicians I sent money to.

Me as well, and I don't even live in Pennsylvania.

It could be very simple to win, if you can tap into dissatisfaction over Obama and Congress. The guy has been in office for 2 months and already he’s managed to lower his approval ratings below Bush in 2001.

But this will take some cunning strategy and a good media message.

Stuff that the GOP sucks at.

Okay, what did she poll?

Look, there probably isn't 10 cents worth of difference between Murtha and Spector - I'm exaggerating for effect - and what did she do that would lead one to believe that she would be more successful against Spector than would Toomey?

I'm not getting into any infighting among ourselves. I want to know which one will end arlen’s career.
Frankly, I weary of him.

As many of you may remember, I am a HUGE fan of Diana Irey!!!

HOWEVER, this is the RNC's failed "fred thompson" strategy all over again. Crowding the field to split the vote.

Several Republican conservative fundraisers have approached ...

DIANA! If you are reading this, remember how they treated you in 2006 and do not fall for it!

I want names of the so-called "republican conservatives" that approached her. Pat Toomey and Rick Santorum are the only 2 that I'm aware of that gave her any help at all and it wasn't that earth shattering.

As long as the scum Robert Gleason remains the PA State Republican chairman, they are not to be trusted.

I was shocked (not really) Murtha won yet again, but have no regrets contributing to Irey and will do so again if she runs against Spector.

Toomney hasn’t made a final decision yet.

He was FOR running, before he was AGAINST it.

Luksik To Challenge Specter In Primary
TB: While you are mounting a challenge against Sen. Specter, you also may be running against a number of others in the race for the GOP nomination, most notably former congressman and Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. Since Mr. Toomey came close to beating Sen. Specter in 2004, would you consider dropping out of the race should he announce his intention to run?

PL: No.

TB: So is it correct to say that Peg Luksik is in this race all the way to the 2010 primary?

PL: Yes!

TB: How are you a better candidate for both the primary and general elections than Pat Toomey?

PL: I think that you just hit on it. I had a conversation several weeks ago with Mr. Toomey where he told me point blank that he was not running for the senate. I took him at his word, and I had no reason not to. Then the polls came out against Specter, and now it appears that he may be changing his mind.
