I would smoke weed all the time if it didn’t make me fat. Or more accurately, make me want to pig out which makes me fat. One time I got high during IRON CHEF and pretty much ate everything in my kitchen. Actually it was my parent’s kitchen at the time. They were mad.

Its re-legalizing it, not legalizing it.

Do you mean Libertarian? Gotta be careful with Paul, you know. I tend to think drug legalization is a rather silly thing to fight for (why hurt yourself?), but I think I’d gladly accept it as part of a platform that got the government off our backs in many other ways.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. He’s right about MJ. Don’t use the stuff, don’t advocate others use the stuff, penalize folks if using dope causes accidents, etc. Otherwise, we should own our own bodies.

to do as they like. I do not mean a country where six men may make five men do exactly as they like.”

Fine, legalize it and establish laws similar to DUI (DUH?). Just don’t take a dime from my pocket to pay for any health issues the tokers may suffer later.

that has to be fought. Living arond 16 miles north from the war zone of Tijuana where the killings, beheadings, etc. go on, Drug Cartels are just part of the situation.
The corruption in the Gov., Police, Army, etc. in Mexico
has to be delt with.

Let's face it, the ‘War on Drugs’ is a joke, or would be if it wasn't so selectively enforced, used as a means of control and didn't destroy otherwise normal, peaceful lives.

Paul was right on the mark when discussing drunk vs. stoned driving. My own personal experience, having done both, is that when drunk the drive is reckless, high speed and likely prone to involve some kind of 'Road Rage' incident. When stoned the only problem I've seen is the possibility of getting a ticket for going too slow.

I've also yet to witness any violence among those who are smoking but I've seen plenty between drunk people.

Pot is just a Red Herring and a means of expansion of Gov’t control and capture by Agencies of enormous resources.

Yep. If a citizen is productive, shows up for work on time & puts in a good day’s worth - and doesn’t cause harm to anyone else - I don’t really care what they do on their own time.

As far as not wanting to pay for their health issues - that’s a slippery slope. We all do things that could injure us, I don’t think we ought to be policing people’s private lives like that.

Their power decreased drastically.

They went into other criminal activity.

Yeah, the same penny-ante crime they did before prohibition.

Another dumb idea from the Schizophrenic.

The late William Buckley and former NM Governor Gary Johnson are also schizos too, because they supported legalizing marijuana.

Some folks are looking for easy answers to a situation that has to be fought.

Here's 2 easy answers to stopping marijuana: Either secure the borders and let Mexico sit in their own stew, or let states regulate it like alcohol. Why the gov't won't do this is simple. The prison/law enforcement complex needs to be fed.

You said — “I would smoke weed all the time if it didn’t make me fat. Or more accurately, make me want to pig out which makes me fat.”

Well I wouldn’t smoke it under any conditions. It also has to do with breathing in smoking embers from something that has been burning. It never seemed too healthy to me...

Good question.

When it was illegal, what did the gubmint want?

To legalize it and TAX it.

Same with pot. Libertarians (who are supposed to be for SMALL government) want to legalize it and TAX it.

(See California, for instance)

Why? Why are Libs (Libertarians) for higher taxes - which leads to BIGGER goverment?

Letting adults decide for themselves what intoxicants they may consume is actually the smaller, less intrusive government position. The larger government position would be to regulate everything adults may or may not consume.

No difference.

You are very misinformed. A Libertarian has no desire to exert control over your person or your property. They will fight for your 2nd Amendment rights. They will not tax your eye teeth or take your property for the "common good".

While they are weak on foreign policy relative to exerting military power outside of the confines of our border, they will protect the country AT the border. Some of us, the traditionalists, just think that in today's world that waiting for the bad guys at the border is a touch late.

If being stoned makes you drive slower wouldn't your reflexes also be slower?

B.S. Impaired is impaired, no matter what you're impaired on.

Driving too slow causes more accidents than anything else, because it causes everyone to take chances passing the idiot driving 20 miles an hour in a 60, whether they are sober or drunk.

Then there are the pot heads that day dream through red lights and stop signs, run over children playing in the streets, rear enders because their reactions are too slow.

Pot is every bit as bad as booze.

Pot is also just as bad as smoking, it contains all the same harmful toxins as tobacco except nicotine.

Pot smoking is VERY harmfull to the children with still developing minds that smoke it, which is when most people are introduced to pot, around 12-13 years old.

Pot smokers who think legalized pot would be wonderful, and eliminate their legal problems are terribly mistaken. This shows what pot smoking does to the mind. Pot smokers can't think rationally.

Growing pt would still be illegal. Selling pot would still be illegal. Smuggling pot would still be illegal.

Pot would simply become government controlled, like booze. All smuggling, growing(distilling) selling without a license (and proper taxation) would still be illegal.

All legalizing pot would accomplish is government control over it's quality, and taxation.

Legalizing pot will just turn even more kids into useless, unproductive, lazy dopes, a condition that seems to last throughout a pot heads lifetime. (along with their t-shits with MJ leaves printed on them)
