Atheist Buses
The Skeptic's Dictionary Newsletter ^ | Feb 2009 | Robert T. Carroll

The atheist bus campaign began in England with London comedy writer Ariane Sherine and signs that read "There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life." Funds were collected by the British Humanist Association, and Richard Dawkins pledged to match donations up to £5,500. The ads are on some 600 buses and in many tube stations. So far only one bus driver has refused to drive his bus because of the ads.

The idea for an atheist bus campaign is now global and includes nations in Europe, Australia, North America, and South America.

"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

Heh, heh. Probably.

You sure it was atheists who put up those signs?

Ironically at the same time Muslims are bending Britons over.

I’m surprised the Jihadists of TROP haven’t put the kabosh on this.

"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

In any way you want because there is nothing you can't do -- and pray (to what?) you're right... I hear eternity is a rather long time.

“”There’s probably no God”

Doesn’t that make it an agnostic bus?

You don’t have to act like a communist to believe there’s no God. ;)

What is it about atheists and bus riding, anyhow? It’s such an interesting sociological phenomenon. I can’t quite decide, do bus riders need proselytizing, or is their atheist faith weak and in need of shoring up?

You don’t have to act like a communist to believe there’s no God.

But you do have to believe there is no God to be a communist...

Sorry, that’s absolutely untrue. There’s a lot of history of Christians who believe in communist ideals and communism itself.

It is people with faith in God who are enjoying life, We arent worried, it’s the atheist who is worried and trying to make himself feel better by strength of numbers in idiots who dont believe. A true athesit wouldnt spend half his life trying to convince others there is no God.

You ever read the Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx? It is the "Bible" of Communism written by the founder of Communism. Let's just say it takes a dim view of religion...

Athiests and Theists (Christians) have taken opposite sides of an unprovable argument. As an agnostic (raised catholic, altar boy when we still spoke latin so don’t give me any crap) I can neither confirm nor deny..still keeping an open mind. Morality is crucial to our form of government and I fear it is sadly lacking. More’s the pity.

“There’s probably no God...”

...but as the old mobster in “Casino” said, why take the chance?

It seems that religious groups should have equal time on bus ads.

there are theists who are absolutely certain that there is a G-d and there are theists who hold that it is very likely.

I’m not denying that at all. But the fact is, plenty of Christians are communists.
