Where is Osama bin Laden? U.S. zeros in on Chitral, Pakistan in hunt for 9/11 mastermind

WASHINGTON - Where's Osama? Try Chitral, once a trekkers' paradise in Pakistan that has been sealed off to outsiders and is now regularly buzzed by American spy drones.

The U.S. won't say it officially, but an exhaustive Daily News investigation finds the world's biggest manhunt for the monster who murdered nearly 3,000 people on 9/11 has zeroed in on Chitral's stunning peaks and deep valleys.

Six U.S. and foreign officials confirmed to The News that northwestern Pakistan's impenetrable Hindu Kush mountains - which boast some of the world's tallest climbs - in the Chitral region have been eyed as Bin Laden's hideout since 2006 by Osama hunters aiming for the big kill.

A lengthy review of evidence, including recent Predator fly-bys, Bin Laden's tapes since 9/11 and interviews with three dozen experts on Al Qaeda, Pakistan and special operations, point to these vast mountains as the terror chief's most likely haven.

Captured Al Qaeda leaders have given up as his hideout. "Debriefings of Al Qaeda leaders arrested confirmed this," said Rohan Gunaratna, author of "Inside Al Qaeda."

Two senior foreign officials said the nearby town of Kalam also is suspect.

“If Obama gets Osama and tries and convicts him and puts him to death. I think he will win a second term. Just saying”

I remain seriously disappointed in not finding and killing bin Laden in more time than WWII.

Bush accepted less in Afghanistan than I expected.

Bring him Staeside and run him for POTUS in 2016. The dumbies will vote for Osama as they voted for Obama (or do I have the names backwards?)

Everytime I use my spell check, and it comes across ‘Obama’, my paper clip ‘says’ “Do you mean OSAMA?”

If he’s captured/killed, it will be catastrophic. Obama will get credit and like the other poster said, he’ll get reelected easily. It’ll make President Bush and VP Cheney look like they weren’t doing anything to find him, when Obama swoops in and gets him in his first few months in office. It won’t be true, but that’s how the MSM will spin it.

if Obama finds him in less than 4 years after Bush failed to find him in 7 years, Obama will been seen as a hero. Trying him etc etc etc is all gravy for him. If that happens we may as well start planning for 2016

.....we need a kill on this guy...although I’m sure Obama will be more interested in reading him his rights.

Nah he won’t. Everyone will think he has connections which he does. Besides, Osama has probably been advising Obama all along.

Unfortunately, the information on the FBI site
http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/fugitives/laden.htm
and the reward for justice site http://www.rewardsforjustice.net/english/index.cfm?page=Bin_Laden are not updated. Both of them states up to $25 Million reward, but the actual figure (since 2004) is 50 ! http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/03/19/1079199431018.html

The info for Zawahiri http://www.rewardsforjustice.net/index.cfm?page=Zawahiri&language=english has no info on his height, but that is easy to get, as he was in jail in Egypt some years ago.

On the other hand here are plenty of leads, here is the most recent: Parachinar, a town in the mountains of Pakistan south of the Khyber Pass. http://tierneylab.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/02/18/geographers-find-bin-laden-theoretically/
