Last fall the AT reported on a couple of instances in which members of Congress seemed to be confused as to where they lived, sometimes in order to claim tax benefits for which they were not entitled and sometimes to maintain the facade that they lived within the boundaries of the district they claimed to represent. We now have another case of residential confusion. This time a New York Democrat, Eliot Engel, and his wife claim to live in a large house in Maryland purchased in 1993 for purposes of that state's property tax exemption while Eliot files his income tax returns as a resident of New York, not Maryland. The self proclaimed "life long resident of the Bronx" rents an apartment in his district.

What is Pelosi’s addy? EVERY ONE of these items should be sent to her inbox. The dems have really improved the crime rate.
I can understand the Daily News as they’re a local paper and they know everyone here knows he’s a DemoRAT. The New York Slimes, of course, is doing their usual bigoted reporting.
The comment was about the Times and News, not this article which is about how these two ignored it.
Uh, dude...
That’s from the AT article.
“This time a New York Democrat, Eliot Engel,...
Uh, dude...”
That was the AT...try finding it anywhere else...until you get to paragraph 13....or try even finding the story...which, I think, is the point of the post...
NBC doesn’t mention his affiliation with the exception of the two point type in the description of the house...sick sob’s...

Anderson Cooper called New York Rep. Eliot Engel “kind of pathetic” on CNN Tuesday night for staking out an aisle seat for President Barack Obama’s Address to Congress more than 12 hours before it began.
Engel responded in the New York Daily News. “What’s really pathetic is that Anderson Cooper apparently doesn’t share my enthusiasm for participating in such a historic and wonderful celebration of American democracy,” he said. “I am sorry he is so jaded.”

Congressman Engels Tax Break Revoked by Maryland
Potomac, MD U.S. Congressman Eliot Engel, representing The Bronx and Westchester has had his claims for thousands of dollars in tax breaks for a home he owns in the tawny suburbs of Washington, DC. revoked.
Congressman Engel rents an apartment in his district, in Riverdale, NY. He and his wife have filed property tax forms over the past ten years stipulating that their Potomac, Maryland home is their primary residence.
The claims made by the veteran congressman has netted the Engels almost $7,000 in credits over the last four years.
TAX CHEATING YOU CAN BELIEVE IN.
Voted NO on making the Bush tax cuts permanent. (Apr 2002)
Voted NO on $99 B economic stimulus: capital gains & income tax cuts. (Oct 2001)
Voted NO on Tax cut package of $958 B over 10 years. (May 2001)
Voted NO on eliminating the Estate Tax (”death tax”). (Apr 2001)
Voted NO on eliminating the “marriage penalty”. (Jul 2000)
Voted NO on $46 billion in tax cuts for small business. (Mar 2000)
What in the world are tawny suburbs? Is that a failure of the reporter[?] to use a dictionary, or a new definition of skin color.
I think Potomac would be more likely to be called a ‘toney’ suburb. A place where CEOs live, and really which should be beyond the financial reach of a congressman - if congressmen truly lived on their salaries.
This would make a great tagline!
Engel, who rents an apartment back in his district, also owns a $1 million house with his wife in the well-off Washington suburb of Potomac, Md.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
