Bristol Palin's ex-fiance: I'm not mature enough

(03-15) 17:22 PDT Anchorage, Alaska (AP) --

The former fiance of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter said in an interview that they could reunite but would remain apart as friends for now.

Levi Johnston, 19, told ABC's "Good Morning America" in a segment to air Monday that he and 18-year-old Bristol Palin broke up after a fight "a week, two weeks ago" and had tried to "make things work." The two are the parents of an infant son, Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, born on Dec. 27.

"But this is what it kind of ended up turning into," Johnson said in an interview from his Alaska home. "But we'll see what happens."

Johnston also said they needed time to grow up before following through on marriage plans.

the media pressure had a very large part in breaking them up... which, of course, they are more then happy about

“I personally think the boy saying he is not mature enough is a cop out (my husband was barely 20 when we got married and not quite 21 when we had our first baby—”

My very strong suspicion is that believing anything anyone says about one of the potential issues that could be used against a future presidential candidate is a very bad idea. I cannot imagine the pressure this kid/person got from the campaign once it became clear to the GOP that he had gotten the daughter of the gop vp pick pregnant.

His answer reads like a mea culpa to simply avoid giving the media ANYTHING they can use against sarah palin. I personally doubt there was ever any expectation that they would actually get married. That was for the convention, the cameras, and the true believers/ideologues that needed to believe this.

Folks who think I am somehow writing against palin desperately need to look up realpolitik and how it applies to palin. This sort of thinking is exactly what someone is doing when it applies to her prospects, both in 2008 and 2012+.

“Levi should have done a bit more thinking with the head that has the brain !!”

The biology simply isn’t wired that way. The expected society breeding ages are just way beyond what evolution intended.

Men storming the beach at Normandy were not mature enough. They rose to the event and matured in a hurry. This one father is a coward.

Jeff, what you are saying is the God’s honest truth. Too many are hooked on the public tit and many more millions are lining up to get their share as we speak. Key will be several measures; amnesty and socialized healthcare. If 40 million (and I’m assuming that many of these are illegals) are without health insurance; there is an equal if not greater number that are marginal, or border-line unable to meet premiums for their families. If healthcare is socialized, those that are marginal will cascade to the social ledgers. Once 80 million are on the healthcare dole, the other 2/3 will refuse to be left behind. Case closed. One thing is certain, that if 80 million are receiving healthcare benefits from the state, they will vote democrat permanently. Same thing with Amnesty.

There has never been a better time to flush our dysfunctional two-party system. Conservatives should realized that the values they support are not a functional part of the Republican Platform and never have been. Conservative, small-government, pro-individualists; et al, should form a solid third party base and work out their differences. Either-way, they would have more in-common with each other, than with either the Dems or Repubs. Republicans have, since the days of Lincoln, been government controlled capitalists; not pro-individual or small-government - those traditionally have been only window dressing for the uninformed.

Perhaps this is the time? A party calling for reduced government, pro-individual, personal responsibility, TERM-LIMITS for congress (indentured porkists), tort-reform, pro-States rights, could gain allot of ground in this environment.

Well at least he’s mature enough to admit he’s not mature enough.

I hope they can work thru their childish differences because they took on very mature responsibilities.

Duh

You've fathered a human being, you idiot, time to grow up was before you had sex before marriage that produced a baby.

Exactly. You get it. It’s not a tough concept. We infantilize our children by not making them accept responsibility, so now we have an upcoming generation of grown up babies. (and that is we in general, I suspect more Freepers, as a group do not raise their kids like that, since responsibility is a hallmark of real conservatism).

If one is paying child support, barring having honest to goodness provable abuse or other danger to the child (and not just Mom said so) they should be able to see their child. Apparently, from what I hear, the system is broken in that regard. On the other hand, guys, keep it in your pants if you aren’t married to the woman and especially if this is not someone you want to spend the rest of your life with. That’s where the problem starts. (same advice to girls, btw).

Then explain the majority of kids who never get pregnant,or get anyone else pregnant before they get married? We are not animals. We can make decisions.

They put themselves into positions where they are apt to end up at that point. In addition the culture glorifies sex without responsibility, parents in many (not all) cases are absent or uninvolved, unwed pregnancy is not much of a big deal as far as they can see, and people say, “hey, kids will be kids.” What do you expect?

a cop out? I suspect it is more a matter of the media and the world leaving him alone to sort things out....and him giving interviews does nothing to make this happen....it only adds to the loud judgement the media is heaping on him....

Then he needs to stop giving interviews. He never will grow up if people give him a pass.

If he’s “not mature enough” to fulfill the husband/father role, then he’s not mature enough to fulfill the sperm donor role, either - IMHO.

Actually, I think the stats bear out that kids do better if their parents were married and divorced than if they never married. People mature really quickly when they are forced to be responsible.

In my case the stat is true.My husband's parents were divorced when he was young. He was the oldest and looked out for his younger siblings. We were married when we were both 18,and I believe his maturity is the reason we are celebrating 35 years of marriage today.

“Then explain the majority of kids who never get pregnant,or get anyone else pregnant before they get married?”

Hi Brytlea, I truly hope you aren’t too disillusioned about what I’m about to say. I type medical reports day in and day out, and I’m still amazed at the number of 12-year-old girls who are being brought in by their mothers for birth control to “help regulate” them.

By the time they’re 14, they’re coming in for a pelvic exam and being warned to always use protection due to STDs. Many don’t heed those warnings and end up being tested for GC/Chlamydia, etc., at a very young age.

Also, their mothers, realizing the risk of HPV with multiple partners (or even one partner if he’s had several partners), are having them vaccinated with Gardisil to help prevent cervical cancer.

It bothers me to know the number of sexual partners these girls (and guys) have by the time they reach college age, but sadly, that’s what’s going on in Smalltown, America.

Congratulations! We will celebrate 33 this year. It has gone by so fast, and I cannot imagine having spent those years with a better person! We need to celebrate long term marriages instead of the garbage that Hollywood throws at us daily. (a little off topic, but I couldn’t help myself). :)
