Oscar-nominated actor compares those who do not accept human-induced global warming with Holocaust deniers
Actor Pete Postlethwaite yesterday denounced climate change deniers as a "negative force" with their "heads in the sand". Ahead of Sunday's premiere of The Age of Stupid, an environmental doomsday docudrama, he compared those who do not accept that human-induced global warming is occurring with Holocaust deniers, and said the evidence for global change is now beyond doubt.
"The naysayers are a negative force," said Postlethwaite, whose new film, The Age of Stupid, premieres on Sunday. "Because that can be really bad for people who are not sure and they'll think 'well it's too late'. There are some people who disagree with it therefore what can I do? Therefore forget it. I think that's really bad."
In the film, the Oscar-nominated actor stars as a future survivor of the 21st century's climate apocalypse, who looks back on the present through documentary footage and asks why humanity failed to save itself while it could.
In an interview with the Guardian, the actor made the link between climate change denial and Holocaust denial: "There are bound to be deniers. Whenever you set up a thesis there's bound to be somebody who comes the opposite way
like Holocaust deniers. They can stick their heads in the sand if they like, but the evidence is absolutely there and graphic for anybody to have a look at."

The movie title matches his IQ, how nice.
If only we sent Al Gore another couple hundred million dollars when we had the chance...
I’ve never even heard of this fool.
So, a fake documentary? The AGW crowd is getting ever more obnoxious.
He’s generally a bit part actor, notably mostly for having a humongous and odd-shaped face.
He was that gay actor’s lawyer in Usual Suspects..plus he was the hunter in Jurassic Park 2 or 3.
He looks like a boozer.
George Carlin was right on here:
The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles...hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages...And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference?
Who the hell is Pete Postlethwaite and what would a moronic actor know about science, the climate or anything else for that matter.
This and Brokaw with his Global Warming mularkey program... seems like the libs are stepping up for the next wave of the Big Lie.
Ohhh, gawd, Pete. You were one of my favorite actors. Ahhhhhh, well. Another one bites the dust.
Finally, a movie that lives up to its name!
I stole that from a review of "Dumb and Dumber."
Yeah, that's the sort of stuff he does - he gave the kid the magic worms in James and the Giant Peach. He shows up, reads his lines, and gets paid. Now he fancies himself a scientist or something.
“Actors - Is there anything they don’t know?”
Actors - Is there anything they dont know?
Yes. A lot.
Well we just can't leave these "negative forces" mucking about gumming up the works, can we Peter? They will obviously have to be neutralized. Now how can we best accomplish this most noble of social goals? Does recent history, say in the last century, offer us any hints?
There are no Jimmy Stewarts today.
Global warming was caused by a lack of electrolytes. Everyone knows that. They are what a cloud needs!
“The naysayers are a negative force,” said Postlethwaite...”
“Always with the negative waves, Moriarty, always with the negative waves!
Oddball, “Kelly’s Heroes”
How would Postlethwaite know where OUR heads are, with his stuffed so far up his own ass?
What a shame! I liked him as Kobayashi in “The Usual Suspects.”
I caught a Science Channel program this morning that said the earth goes through a 21,000 year cycle, during which time many changes occur that are definitely outside man’s ability to control. Things like the shape of our orbit around the sun and stuff like that. There’s never been a time in the history of this planet when there wasn’t climate change. Gore, Postlethwaite and others are simply too myopic to see that there are bigger things than our carbon emissions at work here.
He played the really creeeeepy disgusting guy on Sharpe’s Rifles, right?
I looked up the plot summary on IMDB and it was apparently filmed on several continents--North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. I trust that the filmmakers traveled to each location on gliders and bicycles.
Just another actor taken in by the emotion of the anthropogenic Global Warming carp.
Yes, he did. I believe he was the Sergeant who ordered Sharpe's flogging early on in his Army career. Dang! I wish I could remember his name!
Pete Postlethwaite... Sgt. Obadiah Hakeswill
I once read that Sgt. Hakeswill's nervous tic and talking into his hat weren't in the script, Postlethwaite came up with that on his own.
Naw, he didn't come up with it, those mannerisms were in the books. The author of the books, Bernard Cornwell, did.
I remember him from the movie In The Name Of The Father, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. It was a well acted film based on a real story.
Postalwaite and Daniel Day-Lewis
So, do we go with the Hollywood actors and the whack-job V.P. (whose own Nashville mansion has a higher monthly electrical bill than most people's mortgage payment) who really do know it all?
“”The naysayers are a negative force,” said Postlethwaite”
No. Those who frighten little children with ecological lies are the negative force.
