Pattie Carson is being held at the Southern Regional Jail.

PRINCETON W.Va.-- A woman is behind bars after attempting to steal thousands of dollars from a 91-year-old St. Albans woman.

Pattie Carson is charged with misappropriation of funds and assets of the elderly. State Police said she tried to steal a $25,000 cashier's check from Sophia Nelson of St. Albans.

Police say Carson left Nelson in the tub for several hours at the Princeton Comfort Inn.

The room flooded and hotel workers called an ambulance for Nelson. When Carson came back to the room police saw her trying to pack up and take the check. Carson is being held at the Southern Regional Jail.

The woman looks slightly off, if you know what I mean. How sick must you be to do this to a 91 year old woman.

This is so common. I've known people who had it happen to them. I've seen elderly people in the bank accompanied by apparently unrelated individuals who are waiting for them to take out money.

I knew a man in his 80's who was pressured to give tens of thousands of dollars and a vehicle to a neighbor. The culprit's strategy appeared to be to hasten our friend's death before anyone knew what was going on. It looked like he went on to do the same thing to other people. Once the victims are dead, the prosecutor doesn't want to pursue such cases.

That is sad. Oh well they will be old one day and karma will catch up with them.

Karma always remembers.

Well, we can be pretty sure that Carson didn't put the 91-year-old in the tub and run off with the check leaving the water running. Looks as if the elderly lady, who most likely couldn't get out of the tub by herself, found a way to attract attention to her plight. Quite feisty, in my opinion.

I took care of my mother for the last 8+ years of her life, until she died at 98 (fell, broke her hip, contracted pneumonia and passed on -- all in the space of 9 days). Mentally she was frisky as a kitten, but physically she needed a bit of help. The lady in the article may be the same way.
