PHILADELPHIA -- Vincent Fumo, once one of the most powerful figures in Pennsylvania politics, was convicted today of more than 130 counts of corruption for schemes that defrauded the state Senate and others of more than $3.5 million and allowed him to live a lavish lifestyle.
The 65-year-old former state senator was found guilty of all 137 counts against him, which also included obstruction of justice for destroying e-mail evidence. The jury deliberated about the Philadelphia Democrat's fate for about six days after a five-month trial.
Prosecutors are expected to seek a sentence of more than 10 years under federal guidelines, based on the size of the fraud, the obstruction conviction and other factors.
After the verdict was read, Mr. Fumo hugged his distraught college-age daughter and his girlfriend before leaving the courtroom.

Is it any wonder that no one trusts the media, print or otherwise, when the story about the conviction of such a prominent Democrat can't even state that the person convicted is a Democrat?
AP I would ordinarily ask you to hang your head in shame but you're so far being able to be shamed its just sad. Why not rename yourself Pravda, Tass or the Korean Central News Agency? Your objectivity is just as transparent.

It’s not just that he was the most powerful man in the legislature, it’s that he was so arrogant about his corruption. His attitude was “so I’m corrupt, so what?”
Even worse was the local media’s good-ol-boy treatment of the guy, as if he were a competitor on the Survivor TV show. “Well, he lied, cheated, and stole, but you gotta hand it to him, he really knows how to play the game.”
Yeah I just kept looking for the (D) next to his name and never saw it. You are correct, I was wrong.
Still, you would have expected 10 references to a Republican in a similar case and definitely a (R) next to his name every single time it was mentioned.
At no point do they tell the reader that Eddie and Vince grew up together in The DEMORAT PHILLY Party and trained together on all of this crap. Remember Ralph Nader saying after his famous post nomination meeting with the Chief Gigolo and North Vietnam War Hero John Kerry, that he now “Knew that the Democratic Party was Corrupted and Decayed right to the “Very Top!” of The Party!” Gee, Wonder what Olde Ralph Nader was referring to when he said that?

Exactly. Fumo is arrogant and corrupt to the core. Philly media does want to treat him like a good ol boy...like Vince is some kind of scrappy Philly street kid made good. Uh, not so much. He’s a corrupt Philadelphia Democrat who finally got what he deserved. Let’s hope he’s just the first in a long line of corrupt Philly Dems getting put away.
