Three British explorers trying to ski to the North Pole to measure the thickness of sea ice only have one day's food left as bad weather hampers supply flights, the mission said Tuesday.
Project director and ice team leader Pen Hadow and his colleagues Martin Hartley and Ann Daniels are now down to half rations and fighting to survive in brutal sub-zero weather conditions.
---snip--- During the past 17 days temperatures have consistently dropped below minus 40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit), and have been accompanied by strong winds increasing the chill factor.
Bad weather has forced three attempts to drop food supplies to the team on a landing strip close to their camp to turn back.

Ice ages kill far more than warm periods. Warm periods tend to be periods of prosperity with plenty of food. The low sunspot activity argues more for an ice age than the phony "global warming" agenda pushers would like.

Not sure if that graph takes into account the ice sheet the size of California that was “missed” in previous reports.

Pardon. The image was a bit small. It shows that ice is increasing in 2008-2009 when compared to 2006-2007.

My apologies too. I was a little curt in that post, I had some other issues on my mind.
Hopefully, the global warming hoax will be fully exposed within the next few years - only committed leftists are pushing the idea anyway.

These explorers are boldly attempting to do actual science in physically deadly conditions: I wish them well.
And remember FRiends. Global warming is, or at least was, real. Its much warmer now than it was in 1600 AD. It's Anthropogenic Global Warming that's hysterically out-of-touch.

I hope that they're not looking for a CO2 producing flight to deliver supplies or pick them up, that would be hugely hypocritical and just plain wrong.

This is like the story I posted about the North Pole station that had trouble installing carbon-free power supplies, to help prevent warming, because of the extreme cold.

Yet again the MSM shows it’s intteligence.
“During the past 17 days temperatures have consistently dropped below minus 40 degrees Celsius (-40 degrees Fahrenheit), and have been accompanied by strong winds increasing the chill factor.”
Last time I check -40 deg C. is considerably cooler than -40 deg F.

These guys started an 85 mile trek with 17 days of supplies and now they are stranded with no way back.
If the planes can’t even drop food how are they to be rescued?
This is a tragedy in the making.
The melt ahead of them is obviously due to warmer water under the ice with those temps; and no forecast break in the zero-visibility wind driven blizzard they now huddle.

0 degrees C is 32 degrees F. Both of these are the respective temps where water freezes. So...
-40 C is 40 degrees below the temp of water freezing
-40 F is 72 degrees below the temp of water freezing.

It’s a tragedy of their own making and of the global warming insanity. I hope they are rescued, but this is like someone setting sail to find the edge of the ocean and they get lost at sea because they aren’t going to fall off the edge of the flat earth. Geez. It’s a bad, bad very cold, dangerous place up there. And what were they going up there to prove?

Much publicity was given to Lewis Gordon Pugh, who set out to paddle a kayak to the Pole to demonstrate the vanishing of the Arctic ice. At 80.5 degrees north, still 600 miles short of his goal, he met with ice so thick that he and his fossil-fuelled support ship had to turn back.
But this did not prevent him boasting that he had travelled “further north than anyone has kayaked so far”.
It took the admirable Watts Up With That blog, run by the American meteorologist Anthony Watts, to point out that in 1893 the Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen found the Arctic so ice-free that he was able to kayak above 82 degrees north, 100 miles nearer the Pole than our hapless campaigner against “unprecedented global warming”.

Yes, but the two scales (Fahrenheit and Celcius) converge at -40, so the temp is exactly the same on either one.

This thread is not exactly the Gore Effect, but there is
Anthropogenic Global Warming Anthropogenic Climate Change irony nonetheless.
The Gore Effect (Links may expire over time.)
- GORE HEARING ON WARMING MAY BE PUT ON ICE
Mon Jan 26 2009 17:59:26 ET Al Gore is scheduled before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday morning to once again testify on the 'urgent need' to combat global warming. But Mother Nature seems ready to freeze the proceedings. A 'Winter Storm Watch' has been posted for the nation's capitol and there is a potential for significant snow... sleet... or ice accumulations. "I can't imagine the Democrats would want to showcase Mr. Gore and his new findings on global warming as a winter storm rages outside," a Republican lawmaker emailed the DRUDGE REPORT. "And if the ice really piles up, it will not be safe to travel." A spokesman for Sen. John Kerry, who chairs the committee, was not immediately available to comment on contingency plans. Global warming advocates have suggested this year's wild winter spells are proof of climate change. Developing... - HEARING ON 'WARMING OF THE PLANET' CANCELED AFTER ICE STORM (Drudge Report ) February 13, 2007
- March 1, 2007 --- Minnesota Public Radio's "Global Warming: The Home Front" scheduled for March 1 was cancelled due to insufficient global warming ("based on current travel advisories ").
- March 7, 2007 --- A Congressional subcommittee meeting on Energy and Air Quality Hearing on "Climate Change: Are Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Human Activities Contributing to a Warming of the Planet?" was cancelled due to a snow advisory. "A SNOW ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE PRIMARILY TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING."
Recall that greenhouse hypothesis maintains that warming due to increases in the greenhouse effect is anticipated to be greatest in the winter.
- Frostbite, equipment damage end latest Bancroft-Arnesen trek
PATRICK CONDON Associated Press March 12, 2007 MINNEAPOLIS - A North Pole expedition meant to bring attention to global warming was called off after one of the explorers got frostbite. What follows is a sampling of how Mother Nature enjoys ridiculing promoters of the global warming scam.
