Important Message From NRA Chief Lobbyist Chris W. Cox on Attorney General Holder's Recent Remarks Supporting Reinstatement of the Failed 1994 Gun and Magazine Ban
Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Today in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder, 65 Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Congressman Mike Ross (D-AR), expressed their opposition to the reinstatement of the failed 1994 ban on semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines. These congressmen cited numerous studies that proved the 1994 ban was ineffective, and they strongly urged Attorney General Holder to stop his effort and instead focus on the enforcement of existing gun laws.
NRA would like to thank Congressman Ross for his leadership on this effort. We will continue to work with Members of Congress from both parties on this important issue.

Most are up for re-election and won by running 2A campaigns IIRC.

instead focus on the enforcement of existing gun laws. I'd rather focus on repealing most of them, since they are almost all unconstitutional. Even the restrictions on convicted felons, let alone certain persons convicted of non felonies, are probably unconstitutional unless applied as an explicit part of their sentence. You know, that old concept that one is not to "be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law;". Due process is not merely Congress passing a law.

Wow, 65 Dems with a conscience. Or at least with enough sense to know that passage of a new and improved AWB would result in them being tossed out on their ears...

Let them think their little trick worked and then vote them out anyway. It’s time to clean the House of RINO’S and dims. Solid CONSERVATIVE is what will pull us through Zer0’s reign.

I would agree convicted felons should be able to possess firearms (after probation and some number of years.)
Otherwise they should not be let out of prison until they can be trusted.

Now we need to get a similar number of Republicans to sign up in opposition. But I suspect there are enough RINOs to make up for these 65 Blue Dogs.

How do you like those apples? Back in 2004 when the AWB sunseted , I was arguing with tons of FReepers who thought it would be reinstituted before or shortly after the ban expired.
I argued that the Rats got the snot kicked out of them in the 1994 mid-term elections partly because the AWB they imposed on the country. Most didn't believe me, but my analysis was 100% correct. What I know about dingbat congress critters is that they are complete political cowards. It appears they don't want to go down that road again. In the words of our Kenyan the president, "I won".

If the 2A folks back home send these Democrats back to Washington, then Nancy Pelosi gets to continue as speaker of the House. Better to send these Rats to the unemployment lines they are creating and send strong 2A GOP candidates to Washington (where, upon, they will wimp out and "cross the isle and sell us down the Communist River...)

That makes three of us. The law in Texas restores their rights five years after they are released, and that seems reasonable. Depriving somebody of his or her rights permanently because they once made a mistake is uncalled for.

I agree. If 65 dog rats are telling the truth, there’s not enough RINOS to cover that loss of votes to pass a new AWB.
