In the wake of the American International Group (AIG) bonus controversy, some have called the plans of congressional leaders to tax those bonuses at a rate of 90-100 percent "legislating with a vengeance."
However, Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., insists that doing this is a necessity, despite the premise that retroactively taxing anything is a dangerous precedent. In an interview with CNBC "Squawk on the Street" co-hosts Mark Haines and Erin Burnett on March 19, he explained different rules apply in these extraordinary circumstances.
"When you violate the public trust, different rules apply - the same thing we have in charitable organizations, 501(c)3 when they have excessive payment in certain areas that we're able to penalize them for," Rangel said.

I wish I would've seen this. Here's the best part, Erin Burnett is a screaming leftist Democrat. Remember, she's the one who described Bush as "chimp like". And, when Cramer was bashing Obama a few weeks ago on the Today show, Burnett was there and you could tell she was displeased with Cramer's position.
I’m surprised Rangel didn’t say, “Why don’t you mind your g*&d*#@ business,” like he did to the guy from Hotair.com.
Congressman Charles Rangel should be removed from his position, immediately.
Did he actually say "able to penalize" rather than "have to penalize"? Is this a Freudian slip?
He and many others.....Term limits NOW!!
Glad to see others are starting to wake up and speak up. This man and most of his criminal fiends in congress are pompus, arrogant, nasty, hypocritical bastards that need to be booted right out in the street.
Oh, and Rangel is a frikkin scumbag.. his service in Korea notwithstanding.
“Erin Burnett is a screaming leftist Democrat.” maybe she’ll prove that old adage that a “conservative is a liberal that got mugged.
And the fact that he used the word "penalize" shows the intent of this bill - a punitive bill designed to penalize (same root as the word penal). Thus this is a bill of attainder.
Whether that's true or not, she's my favorite "money honey."
If CNBC’s not veeeery careful dems will start treating them like they’re Republicans. And that ain’t pretty.
I put politics before libido. Therefore, she's dead to me.
Nice catch. I'm sure that tape will be used by counsel for the plaintiffs.
Arrogant folks always have a knack of revealing themselves.
Not just Rangel needs to be removed, a LOT of them need to be removed from office.
and Pelosi called it a form of justice today during one of the debates.
It is punishment to tax at 90%. America has been blinded by vengence
Term limits imposed by state law has been ruled unconstitutional by the SCOTUS
Basically the right to toss the assclowns is reserved to the people not the state.
Seemed Nazi Germany was the same way. Folks wanted revenge. Bad economy...Jewish bankers perceived to be the rich taking advantage of the little guy... vilify them...seize their property... round them up.
I'll settle for TOTUS right now. The rest to follow.
Rangel said. “I am telling you that you have to have some confidence in the House Ethics Committee, where we have Republicans and Democrats.”
Isn’t the “ House Ethics Committee” made up of politicians?
Rangel is a great representative . . . of everything wrong with the system.
Don't start asking yourself simple questions that alleged journalists should be asking of politicians. It will drive you insane.
Nonsense, Rangel is investigating news reported allegations of his tax cheating. He will most certainly come up with the TRUTH! He said so!
Yeah, he kept saying it was one reporter that wrote those allegations and the rest of the media repeated that reporters questions.
