Obama tells Leno he was stunned by AIG bonuses (Stuned!)

BURBANK, Calif. – President Barack Obama has told Jay Leno he was stunned when he learned of the bonuses that bailed-out insurance giant AIG was paying its employees.

Obama told "The Tonight Show" host the payments raise moral end ethical problems — and the administration's going to do everything it can to get them back.

But Obama added the bigger problem is the culture that allowed traders to claim them. He says that's got to change if the economy is to recover.

Obama added the bigger problem is the culture that allowed traders to claim them.

a little self-critique perhaps.

Yes, it is a culture, a culture of corruption, and his party feeds on it..

AIG wooing Asia executives with 100% retention bonus
26 Nov 2008, 1217 hrs IST, Mahima Puri & Chaitali Chakravarty, ET Bureau

NEW DELHI: American International Group (AIG), which recently received a $150-billion bailout package from the US government, is offering retention
bonuses to a few senior executives in Asia, including key officials in India, said a person with knowledge of its plan. AIG has offered to pay such executives an extra year’s salary if they stay on with the company till November 2009.

Payments to these executives are likely to be made in 2010. “A few senior executives have been shortlisted across AIG’s offices in Asia for the payout, which includes senior executives in Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore and India,” the person said.

A spokesman for AIG in India was non-committal on the issue. “Our employees are very important in our businesses. We do not comment on specific employee details,” he said.

NYAG Cuomo warns nine banks about bonus payments

30 Oct 2008, 0412 hrs IST, REUTERS

Cuomo asked the banks to provide the information by November 5.

Earlier this month, AIG promised to recover executive payments and other compensation, cancel perks and institute reforms after Cuomo threatened legal action over its controversial spending.

“Cuomo demands detailed information regarding bonus pool allocations from the boards of directors of the nine banks,” his office said in a statement accompanying copies of the letters.

Cuomo objected to “extravagant” payments to AIG executives who ran the company into near-collapse, including a $5 million cash bonus and $15 million “golden parachute” to former CEO Martin Sullivan earlier this year.

A $34 million bonus was also designated for the former head of the AIG Financial Products Unit, Joseph Cassano, whose unit generated the bulk of the firm’s losses.

>>>But Obama added the bigger problem is the culture that allowed traders to claim them.<<<

If there was ever any doubt, it should be clear Obama is interested in fanning the flames of class-warfare.

This is a general statement...applies to all markets (not just AIG) and marketmakers. Is it the White House's right to dictate how people are compensated.....NO!

This is a Manufactured Crisis...the objective is POWER!

BURBANK, California (AP) — President Barack Obama says his embattled treasury chief, Timothy Geithner, is doing an “outstanding job.”

In a taped appearance on “The Tonight Show”, he told host Jay Leno on Thursday that Geithner is a smart guy who’s been handed an incredibly full plate. But he’s handling it all with grace and good humor.
