You’re absolutely right Highlander. Those of us who still care about the foundations and principles of this once-great nation are essentially using teaspoons to try to stem the incoming flood on this, the sinking ship.

I truly believe that the damage done to our country since the inauguration will be irreparable and we’re seeing the beginnings of our downfall. We’re all going to suffer.

My Rep was a total sellout, per usual. And he just got a piece of my mind via e-mail. He’ll get a call tomorrow.

Sadly, that seems to be the case. My recommendation, buy some seeds, a few basic gardening tools, some gloves and create a victory garden. Make friends with one's neighbors and get back to what community used to be. I wonder if the government will consider recommending positive communities and self sufficiency as subversive.

I am outraged and disappointed that you voted with Charlie Rangel and Barney Frank to tax the bonuses of the AIG executives.

These bonuses are contractual, were known to this administration, were allowed by an amendment by Chris Dodd, and are less than a tenth of a per cent of the AIG bailout billions.

The unindicted culprits in this economic meltdown are the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac enablers primarily Dodd, Frank, Schumer, Waters, Gorelick, Raines, up to and including Paulson and Bernanke.

You have contributed to the climate of threat of bodily harm to these executives and their families and must bear responsibility for any harm to them.

I am very disappointed that Republicans have utterly failed to muster the courage to call out the radical Marxist president from Kenya and his willing handmaidens in the Congress currently destroying capitalism.

Yours is the classic appeaser behavior placating the crocodile in hopes he'll eat you last--

--here's a news flash: The New Tone bought Bush low numbers and your civility will not gain you one seat.

It's a Republic, but in dire straits relying on such Republicans as the 85 cowards who kissed Charlie Rangel's behind on this bill.

I’m finished with these people. They’re all being written today. There has not been any money given to the GOP since 2005 and this will continue to be the trend.

****Calling all Conservative Leaders (men and women) time to rise up and run against those who have forgotten they are “ELECTED” politicians.

Go and run for office in your districts.... start with these local elections. FREEPERS exercise your Constitutional right to vote the Socialist government growing leeches out of office. Let’s take our country back district by district.

Enough is Enough....

I am willing to give a pass to any rep who voted for this, as long as they voted against TARP (both times) and Porkulus.

Using the tax code this way is wrong though those AIG buffoons don’t deserve a dime.

However, this is a dilemma that should never have existed.

Taxing at 90% is Socialist, but not as Socialist as taking $165 Billion (and counting) of taxpayer money to bail out a horribly run corporation. The question of whether bailed out companies should be be allowed to pay huge bonuses should never have come up, because there should be no bailed out companies in the first place.

This sort of reminds me of Octomom. She did the “right” thing by implanting all her embryos, rather than murdering them, like so many do. But, it was morally wrong to produce so many in the first place. Like Octomom, Congress, Bush, Paulson and 0bama have created a litany of problems for which there are no “right” answers, only degrees of wrong ones.

No excuse — none whatsoever. They are buying into the PUNITIVE part of this law then — it makes it even more clear that this was meant as PUNISHMENT and is indeed a Bill of Attainder.

We cannot give them an “out” when they pretend this was some sly political move... They have STILL accomplished the SAME THING regardless of their motives — DESTROYING OUR CONSTITUTION!

How can people possibly think this makes sense — sell the ENTIRE NATION up the river to stick it to the ones they are angry with to prove a point??? What is this “Vendetta Politics”???

Are people actually going to give them a pass on this? Unbelievable... It’s no wonder the GOP is floundering so incredibly badly. They are too stupid to see they are being USED! Or worse — perhaps those who are defending them are too stupid to realize that their explanation is complete BS!

Don’t humor us by saying this was not a sell-out. That is exactly what this is, and this isn’t the first part of their actions to that effect, either! I don’t care how conservative these people pretend to be — they have a RESPONSIBILITY to NOT vote for ANYTHING that goes against ANY part of our Constitution...

Again, absolutely NO EXCUSE, and NO explanation will suffice. Nothing short of a tearful apology on their knees along with a letter of resignation should suffice.

The ones who need to learn the lesson here are our Congressmen!

You know.. With all the quotes and video and such of all these Congressmen in our media if these AIG folks DON’T win in their court cases it will be a clear indication that our SCOTUS is just as messed up as the rest of our Federal Government at this point...

I spent some time over on DU tonight just to see what the reaction was. I didn’t see one post about “Bill of Attainder” laws(not that it surprises me). What I did see was the liberals saying - well 90% taxation is OBVIOUSLY legal! The ONLY thing I saw one person hesitate about was the fact that this is a retroactive law...

Likewise, there was no discussion about employer/employee contracts, etc... etc... It just amazes me that these people claim to be so knowledgeable about our Constitution, and give so much lip service to the abuses supposedly committed by Bush, but when it really comes down to it they either have NO CLUE what they are talking about unless someone else TELLS them they should be upset (those are the useful idiots). For every handful of useful idiots we run across among the liberals there are at least 1 among them that know EXACTLY what they’re doing, and are PURPOSEFULLY not even whispering about the problems they may face on this legally.

I have a feeling now that the obama administration has sufficiently demonized capitalism, there will be a massive loophole when they file their taxes.

Most of these capitalist’s are friends of obama and donated to his campaign and he won’t throw them to the wolves without throwing them a escape clause where they will get their money back.

It will all be under the radar, of course.

America thanks Rep. Rangel for his excellent idea of taxing all those
‘bonus’ dollars above $250,000 at a 90% rate. Clearly these individuals were ‘fortunate’ to have those dollars and clearly didn’t ‘earn’ them. Patriotic Americans everywhere concur. Clearly this is not a ‘writ of attainder’ since you have openned the tax to every patriot in America. Again I concur, since this list will apply to government employees, Congressmen, Union Leaders, as well as private sector employees, CEOs, union leaders, actors, actresses, pro athletes, etc. The lists of individuals to generously and patrioticly send these 90% tax dollars to washington on their ‘bonus’ money above earnings of $250,000 will be welcomed. The list is endless and no longer applies just to those 73 AIG employees who have worked to keep the financial system bandaids in place for the last year or so. The list every patriot could make of course varies, but patriots everywhere are making their own lists! Personally, my list would include such patriotic celebrities as Michael Moore, Jay Leno, Barrack Obama, Chris Dodd, Tom Daschle, Bill Clinton, Mark Rich, Frank Raines, Jamie Gorelick, Rahm Emanuel,Al Gore, Sandy Weill, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates... But I’m sure that you had a different list of patriots in mind, and others will have their own lists, I’m sure. But we all have something to look forward now on Tax Day as an overly generous President Obama will have all these windfall taxes available to spend on all his worthwhile projects.
