Obama Is No Socialist (Not Satire)
Wall Street Journal ^ | March 20, 2009 | Alan S. Blinder

Posted on 03/20/2009 5:01:12 AM PDT by floozy22

Ever since President Barack Obama released the budget last month, we have been hearing a fusillade of criticism claiming that the president, contrary to previous advertising, is not a centrist, but a "leftie" intent on leading the country down the path of socialism.

Let's see. Socialism means public ownership and control of businesses, right? So which industries does the president propose to nationalize?

Banking? Well, no. Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner has made it clear that he opposes nationalizing banks, despite much outcry from the political left -- and even some from the right -- to do just that. Yes, it's a valid criticism that we are still waiting for Mr. Geithner's banking plan. But the budget commits an outrageous act of accounting honesty by including a $750 billion allowance as "a reserve for further efforts to stabilize the financial system." Given the popularity of bank bailouts, that was a courageous thing to do.

What about health care? Doesn't Mr. Obama want "socialized medicine"? No. He wants to reform the current system so that it costs less and covers more people. Disgracefully, the United States is the only advanced nation in the world that fails to cover every citizen -- even though we spend vastly more on health care than other nations.

When one refuses to read the small print, one gets what one deserves! Socialism. Does he not truly understand what The One means by his socialist society? Too many people drank the Koolaid and are not even aware that they have no power to form a rational thought. The Koolaid has influenced them too much. It erases a 100 years of socialist history, right down the drain.

Since when in this country has a Socialist ever come right out and said, “I’m a Socialist?” The examples are far and few between. And the excuses the author uses for justifying his “Obama is no Socialist” are just more of the facile word games the Left and Socialists like to use when denying their own existence.

Obama's plans are a classic example of Fascist Economics. I don't call him a socialist; I call him a fascist. And, yeah, fascism is a leftwing, collectivist philosophy which de-emphasizes individual rights, including property rights.

Businesses which do what the government wants get billions in bailout money. Businesses which make the government unhappy get taxes and regulations. The government doesn't need to "own" the means of production (although, as just one example, it does own 80% of AIG) what government really wants to do is control the means of production. Given the current crisis and the amounts of money being tossed around, Obama has enormous control of private businesses. It's Fascist Economics.

One would, of couse, have to trust what Obama says. Either that or be stupid and uninformed enough.

And he never answerd a recent press guys followup question , after being asked if he was a socialist, and saying “No” ... “, the reporter asked “Is there anything wrong with saying yes?”

Whadda guy.

I wonder what Obama’s budget would look like after all his opposition has been isolated and destroyed. This professor is searching very hard through the details of budget numbers, when all he has to do is look at the man himself. What kind of professors does Obama think were the cool ones in college? That’s right. The Marxist ones. Who were all his friends? Marxists. How would any fair person characterize his favorite voter fraud group? Marxist. What were his parents? See a pattern?

Fascism is socialist at heart. Collectivist, state control over economy, state welfare. It differs only is some of the trappings.

Too many are mistaking fascism with right-wing authoritarianism.

Another pitiful article by Alan with Blinders on. So zero just wants to make health care better and more efficient, not national or socialist it? So that is why he wants to increase government spending by 1000B+ for health care government spending?

Get a grip on reality Alan - it sure isn’t capitalism when the government takes another 1000B+ from taxpayers and uses it to purchase goods and services on behalf of the citizens.

It may serve us well to teach our children, when newspapers are no longer with us, that there used to be such things as Opinion pages, and they did not represent the view of the newspaper's editorial board.

If anyone's keeping track, this opinion piece appears on page A13. It's a page that has the word "OPINION" in boldface type at the top.

But after Murdoch bought it, there was a pronounced drift to the Left. I cancelled my subscription — the WSJ is too much like all the other MSM voices now.

That’s exactly how I answer those that deny that the Telepromptee is a socialist...

“Yeah, you’re right, he doesn’t fit the definition of socialist as much as he fits the definition of FASCIST.”

Bonus: “Fascist” makes lefties madder than “socialist”.

Notice how sensitive he is to being called a socialist.

but some need to start asking questions about fascism.

“Aren’t these policies that you’re implementing and promoting really defined as Fascism, Mr. Telepromptee?”

we wouldn’t need these fascists “distributing” our income. But of course, that wouldn’t give them the power and significance they crave.

My Obamaton friends seem to change their strategy weekly for how to deal with conservatives on the “Obama Situation”.

Yesterday, my most rabid leftist friend explained that while many of Obama’s plans appear to be socialist or even communist, you can’t “label” him as such unless he does a bunch of other things.

So, his argument is “until Obama makes us 100% communist, you can’t call him a socialist”.

Liberalism is a mental disease. 5.56mm is the cure. 7.62mm is a better cure.

irreconcilable: One of two or more conflicting ideas or beliefs that cannot be brought into harmony.

A prime example is our energy indusrty in America. The left controls completely the means of production and distribution.

No new oil fields, no new power plants of any type, no new oil processing plants.

They will only allow more drilling when they narionalize the oil and gas fields, or lease them to China.

It doesn’t matter, anyway - we DON’T NEED anyone to redistribute our income at all (anymore than it already is). It isn’t the government’s business, no matter how needy someone else is, to take from me and give to them.
As you said, it’s all about power. They think they know what we need better than we do. FUBO!

This is garbage propaganda, trying to do some damage control. All of a sudden we are supposed to be bound by the definitions used by the left?

NO! When the libs see fit to change terminology we are supposed to go along- HELL NO, terrorists are still terrorists, not man-made disasters.

Look, this guy’s a Marxist That’s the truth.

“While it would take veritably volumes to explain the full implications and ramifications of the Marxist social and economic ideology, Marxism is summed up in the Encarta Reference Library as “a theory in which class struggle is a central element in the analysis of social change in Western societies.”

Marxism is the antithesis of capitalism which is defined by Encarta as “an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit.” Marxism is the system of socialism of which the dominant feature is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange.

Under capitalism, the proletariat, the working class or “the people,” own only their capacity to work; they have the ability only to sell their own labor. According to Marx a class is defined by the relations of its members to the means of production.

Let’s look at recent legislation. WHO OWNS AIG?
