Mitt Romney: Obama 'is learning on the fly'
CNN.com ^ | 03-20-09 | Larry King Show

Posted on 03/20/2009 10:00:48 AM PDT by GOP_Lady

Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, but John McCain snagged the nomination. This businessman and politician is keeping a critical eye on how things are shaping up in the presidency he wanted, and he shared his views on Thursday night's "Larry King Live." He gave a sharp critique of President Obama's performance and shared his thoughts on Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin and stem-cell research. The following transcript is edited for brevity and clarity:

Saying that O is “learning on the fly” is a polite way of saying it.
The only choices I can see are “learning on the fly” [as in ignorant] or purely [Saul Alinsky trained], [Soros planned] evil.

everybody is mad at AIG and their executives for doing what they did. But to suggest that this is not the fault of the people in Congress who passed the specific measure allowing them to take these bonuses is a diversionary tactic and wrong.

I agree.

You don't have a government take punitive action against a small group of people. Frankly, it's unconstitutional, in my view.

I agree.

Many people in the Conservative Movement and the Republican Party didn't like Romney. They worked against him even thought he was our most viable candidate. They wanted the PERFECT conservative.

Well in this world we rarely get the PERFECT anything. Romney would have been a good candidate, surely better than McCain. If there had not been so many candidates early on then Romney just might have won.

We will never know for sure but I believe Romney could have beaten Obama. Certainly the age factor would have worked to the advantage of Romney and not against him. Yes the DemocRATs would have tried to smear him with the Mormon thing, but I don't think it would have worked.

Don't get me wrong, Romney isn't my perfect candidate, BUT he was the candidate who had the best chance of winning out of the choices we had.

Those of you who opposed Romney bear a lot of the responsibility for the situation we are now in with Obama.

“This is a president who is learning on the fly.”

He certainly is.

He and his handlers are hurriedly and clumsily trying to “correct” our (“The Constitution is fundamentally flawed…”) nation.

The AIG bonus language was buried in the fine print of legislation.
That is likely the tip of alarming new laws that will surface in time out of legislation that our Congressmen did not have time to read before enacting.

The current emotional kneejerk by Congress to punish the recipients of the bonuses attempts to do damage to at least 3 separate contracts:
1. The contract between AIG and the employees who did whatever they did for the bonus.
2. Any agreement reached between AIG and the government officials that put the deal together.
3. The bail out the Congressmen put into law in the performance of their employment contract with their constituents.

I really liked Romney in the debates. But he was out of contention by the time my state voted. So was Guiliani, my second choice.

I worked for McCain, and voted for McCain, and gave $$ to McCain, but Romney and Guiliani I really thought were better all-around candidates.

This is not the time for a president who is on the job training.

Mitt, and others, warned us earlier about Obama's inexperience. Nobody cared. Mitt expressed it well, again, last night:

This is a president who is learning on the fly. He's never turned anything around before. He hasn't had the experience of leading a nation or a business or a state in trouble. And the first rule I can tell him is focus, focus, focus. Focus on the job at hand, getting this economy going, and making sure there are no errors, no mistakes, no excessive spending. It's too risky, given the fact that the economy is hanging by a thread....

....But I can say in my view, Barack Obama is ripe for criticism. This AIG mess is certainly at his doorstep. The fact that he's not spending his time focusing on managing the economy, but is instead in Hollywood tonight and working on cap and trade and health care and other issues, diverting from the issue at hand, I think is certainly fair game to be discussed.

Don't fool yourself. If Romney were on the inside, he'd be one of those voting for Zero's budget. There's nothing in his makeup or political history when actually in office that demonstrates that he would act otherwise.

He only pretends to be a conservative when he thinks it suits him. Like now, when he has no power at all.

Agreed but I though Guiliani dropped out BEFORE Romney. Is my memory wrong?

Either way, the way the Republican did a terrible job of setting up their primaries. We should NEVER allow OPEN primaries. We don't want Democrats selecting our candidates. We don't want Independents selecting our candidates.

Please let's fix this before 2012.

And once again let's nominate a candidate who can WIN the general election. Even if we don't get the PERFECT conservative (if he/she even exists) we must get the most VIABLE candidate. We cannot afford 8 years of Obama. We won't have a country left.

Have you noticed? He's filling a void. Thanks to our great former compassionate leader Bush, there is NO respected leader in the Party who hasnt been compromised by their association with the previous borrow-and-spend administration

The thing Romney has going for him is he's been outside of it , and he is an experienced politician with good ties to the base. Take it or leave it, we're in sorry shape right now.

That Obama is "learning on the fly" is similar to Mitt's joke during the Republican debates that it would be disastrous to have Hilary as an "intern" in the White house.

“Hillary Clinton wants to run the largest enterprise in the world. She hasn’t run a corner store. She hasn’t run a state. She hasn’t run a city,” Romney says in the spot. “She has never run anything. And the idea that she could learn to be President as an internship just doesn’t make any sense.”

I wonder how long till the rest of America realizes that Emperor Obama has no clothes

Romney is like a Department Manager who learns his division is going to be eliminated. So he applies for CEO of another company before his current place of employment fires him.
At the job interview, Romney inflates his resume and over exaggerates about his accomplishments. The Human Resource lady listening to him, rolls her eyes and thinks to herself, “Does this guy believe half the things he says?” A few weeks later, Romney receives the rejection letter. He then screams anti-Mormon bias.
