Without a doubt the majority of my interactions in IA (especially eastern IA) were relatively negative.

Oh yeah. I grew up in W Central Iowa, and have ended up along the Mississippi... they are two different places. The combination of union goonery, ethno-politics (various hyphenated Americans, all followed by the word Democrat) and a glut of college/university safety-pin Communists in places like Dubuque, Iowa City and the Quad Cities have negated any charm they could hold for me.
