The last stand of Zimbabwe's white farmers
Globe and Mail ^ | March 20, 2009 | GEOFFREY YORK

Posted on 03/21/2009 6:06:04 PM PDT by george76

Nine years ago, Zimbabwe had more than 4,000 white-owned commercial farms. In a fresh wave of invasions, farmers keep their guns close at hand as ZANU-PF thugs lay siege to many of the 300 that remain .

Many of the invaded farms are sitting idle or neglected despite a desperate need for food in Zimbabwe, where three-quarters of the population is dependent on food aid from foreign donors.

Largely because of the invasions, Zimbabwe's farm output has dropped by 50 to 70 per cent in the past seven years, and most people subsist on one meal a day.

Mr. Mugabe reacted furiously, saying the tribunal's decision was “absolute nonsense.” He vowed to force out the white farmers, using a derogatory word for whites in the Shona language. “They must vacate those farms, they must vacate those farms, they must vacate those farms,” he thundered in a speech at the celebration of his 85th birthday last month.

Of the 30 white farmers in the Chegutu area, only about five are still on the land...

“Most of them are on the run, so the police don't find them.… This is ethnic cleansing, so that Mugabe can intimidate the population in the next election. He wants to get rid of the last white farmers.”

Isn’t it Obama’s plan to surround the houses of the rich and demand their money? The next logical step is for “poor people” to move into the houses. Yeah, this is America’s future.

I am convinced that Obama’s eventually going to take the foreclosed homes of middle to upper class neighborhoods and fill them with Section 8 recipients, then put the evicted former owners into ghetto public housing.

So Mugabe has chased out the people who know how to farm, because they’re white. And agricultural production has dropped precipitously, to the detriment of Zimbabweans. See my tagline.

The thugs have repeatedly ordered Mr. Etheredge and his brother to surrender their 110-hectare citrus farm, one of the biggest in Zimbabwe with 6,000 tonnes of fruit waiting to be harvested this month.

Not too difficult to figure out what they're waiting for. Hungry thieves do at some point realize that it's smart to get the harvest in first.

Senate president Edna Madzongwe has been targeting the Etheredge farm for the past two years, though she is believed to have four other farms already in her possession. She visits the farm almost every day, accompanied by gangs of young men who tell the 50 farm workers that they must work for her now...The farm workers are deeply worried by the senator's attempt to seize the citrus farm. “When the oranges are gone, she will move on and leave us stranded,” says Fillipo Banda, the oldest of the employees. He doesn't know his age, but farm records show that he has been employed there for 58 years. “If these disturbances continue, I won't be able to feed my family,” he says... The workers remember that the senator paid them nothing when she seized the farm for two weeks last year. “If Edna comes, we'll die of hunger,” says Lodi Jizara, a tractor driver on the farm.

This isn't difficult. "Edna" is a thief. She has already stolen four other farms. She will steal this one as well. The tragedy is in what is not being reported by most of the media and tactfully left unmentioned by even this reporter - the people quoted are black. They are no part of the racist ideology that is behind this outright hijacking of a productive people. And "Edna" will have them working for her - or else. Race is only an excuse, and the ones who will slave or starve have the same color skin as their true oppressors.

At a dairy operation near the Etheredge place, a group of armed men are in control of the property, and the farmer has fled. “He will be allowed back to collect his belongings,” says a young man carrying a shotgun. Then, showing some unease about the challenge ahead, the gunman asks a visitor whether he thinks the farmer might be willing to return as a “partner” to show them how to run the dairy operation.

A "partner"? No. A slave. They will steal his life's work and hope that he will remain to teach them how to use it. It doesn't work that way. The only way out of this game is to see to it that the thieves starve first and not last as they usually do. That's a tough trick but it isn't impossible. Alas for beautiful, raped, ruined Rhodesia.

I can tell you how the dairy operation will end up. The Mugabe criminals will live very well for a while, killing and eating the dairy cows, and then will express great surprise in about 4 months because there is no milk production from the non-cowless dairy.

Scores of Zimbabwe farms 'seized'

There are said to be about 400 white-owned farms left in Zimbabwe

Scores of white-owned farms in Zimbabwe have been invaded since the country's national unity government took office, a union chief has told the BBC.

Commercial Farmers Union President Trevor Gifford said 77 properties had been occupied in the last fortnight.

MPs, police, the military and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe officials had taken part in the invasions, he said...

I believe they’re out to totally destroy the productive middle class for sure. I think you are quite correct regarding the Section 8ers taking over the foreclosed middle class homes. However, I think you’ll see white genocide before you see them forced into the ghettos.

The ones that could got out a long time ago. A lot of them ended upin Australia I read. The same thing is beginning to happen over here. obama has ordered his media to enflame the public’s emotions concerning AIG. What his media are not saying is that the AIG executives were obama’s buddies, donors, and campaign contributors. Also obama himself ordered the provision put into the bailout law and he got his share. But that is what the idiots voted for.....

I’m sure there were whites who sold their property and left as soon as Mugabe took power.

There must be great psychological differences between those who left thirty years ago and those who hung on as Mugabe became more and more demented.

Many who could leave, apparently did leave decades ago.

Many others stayed in the country in which they were born. Perhaps thinking that it would never get this bad.

Seems to have hit the final decade now.

Nine years ago, Zimbabwe had about 4,300 white-owned commercial farms. Today only about 300 remain

I’m glad to hear they got out. And yes, I have read where some of them came to Australia. Some are share-farming in the West, and are very welcome for their hard work and expertise.

About inflaming emotions re AIG - it’s even working over here in Australia. Idiots are being interviewed in the streets, responses are predictable. ‘Those greedy people should be rounded up and shot’.

No mention on the ‘news’ of who is responsible. All anti-capitalism rot. Feeding the culture of envy and sloth.

I haven’t noticed anything different and I use Google a lot in my research. Maybe that’s something I should research...

If I come across any real information I will get back to you.

There was a period some months ago when using Google, a bar came up with the choice between using Australian or Worldwide content. I chose the latter, and have not seen the choice since.

Pretty sloppy of me I guess, but as it hasn’t affected me in any way, I never thought about it any further.

Protesters visit AIG officials' lavish homes

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20090322/D97322A80.html

(AP) Mary Huguley, center, delivers a letter of protest for Douglas Poling in a mailbox outside his home

"We think $165 million could be used in a more appropriate way to keep people in their homes, create more jobs and health care," said Emeline Bravo-Blackport, a gardener.

She marveled at AIG executive James Haas' colonial house, which has stunning views of a golf course and the Long Island Sound. The Fairfield house is "another part of the world" from her life in nearby Bridgeport, which flirted with bankruptcy in the 1990s and still struggles with foreclosures and unemployment."

"Lord, I wonder what it's like to live in a house that size," she said.

Another protester, Claire Jeffery, of Bloomfield, said she's on the verge of foreclosure. She works as a housekeeper; her husband, a truck driver, can't find work.

"I love my home," she said. "I really want people to help us."

{snip}

Besides Haas' home, protesters on Saturday also visited the Fairfield home of AIG executive Douglas Poling. They were met both times by security guards. They left letters that acknowledged some executives, including Haas and Poling, are giving up the money but that asked them to support higher taxes on families earning more than $500,000 a year.

The Sweetness and Light blog discovered that the protesters were gathered and funded by a group affiliated with ACORN.
