Reporting from Chicago -- When she met Barack Obama two years ago, Caitlin Cox proudly wore the two bronze medals she had won at the Special Olympics. The then-Illinois senator grinned as she showed him pictures of her signature bubble-gum-pink bowling ball and posed for photographs with her.
Cox, who has Down syndrome, excitedly recalls that meeting each time she sees Obama's photo on a magazine cover or hears him mentioned on TV. Her ears perked up again Friday morning as her parents discussed the president at breakfast.
Her mother, Suzanne Thompson, told her that Obama had made a joke about the Special Olympics on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on Thursday and that it might have hurt a lot of people. Cox, 21, dropped her head on the table and, after a brief silence, said the news made her sad.
Thompson tried to console her daughter, telling her sometimes people do disappointing things.
But as a mother and special education teacher, Thompson said, internally she was crushed by the president's insensitivity. She knows how destructive such stereotypes can be, and it infuriated her that an organization dedicated to empowering millions of people with developmental disabilities would be reduced to a late-night punch line.

If you listen to liberals, eventually they reveal who they really are.
The LA Times did this story? Very surprised they did not try to white wash Obama’s joke.
Oh noooooo!! Another Obama BRAIN FART.
In a TV interview today, President Barack Obama said he would not accept Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s resignation if it was offered.
************
So how does this work? If I turn in my resignation to my boss, he tells me that I cant quit??? Isnt that SLAVERY ??? LOL
But she’ll still vote for him next time around. In the end, character doesn’t really matter to these people.
Too many people are sending mixed signals to the braindead DemocRATS. This has to be causing the ‘RATS a lot of confusion. Everyone in the “media” thought the trashing and ridiculing of Trig Palin during the time period leading up to Obama’s Ascension was pretty funny. Now, everyone is “outraged” about the same kind of trash being spewed in a more general manner by Team Obama. It’s just flat weird.
If Obama had his way this girl of 21 would not be sad, she would be dead. Aborted.
Certainly Obama would do away with Special Olympics by aborting anyone not up to his specifications.
Havent you been listening.?? Wake up. Didnt you hear the liberals attacking Sarah Palin for refusing to abort her Downe’s Baby ?? Do you think he is kidding??
[Article] But as a mother and special education teacher, Thompson said, internally she was crushed by the president's insensitivity.
MSM pity-party bites Obama on the butt. It's reflexive; they can't stop themselves.
Are you asking me or is that rhetorical?
Live by the sword die by the sword. Anyone dumb enough to expect "sensitivity" from a leftwing a-hole like Obammy, is setting herself up to be "crushed." And guess what mom--he doesn't give a rat's a** about you or your kid. Deal with it--you voted for it.
The first thing this woman needs to know is Obama is not dedicated to America or it’s people. He is for destruction of both.
Obama is a disgusting man. I’m glad that he’s showing his a$$ from the get-go. He deserves no respect.
I attended a funeral recently of a member of my church, age 50, a woman who had Downe Syndrome. She died because of a hole in her heart. But she did not have a hole in the head like somebody else we know who looks down on people that are different. It makes me feel sad to think that the head of our nation could say something so crude and hurtful.
So much wrong here with article.
Suzanne Thompson, mother and Special Education teacher, told her daughter, Caitlin Cox, who has Downs Syndrome, that the President said a bad thing and the daughter is sad.
Geez.
It takes two to hurt the young lady. Obama and the mother for repeating it. Why did the mom have to tell her daughter?
and why is the mother’s last name not the child’s last name or a hyphenated last name? Too much going on here.
I was wondering about this also. I found it to be mean on the mom's part.
OTOH, maybe it was best for the daughter to hear it from her mom than from someone else. Later she would have been questioning her mom why didn't she tell her. Maybe mom thought it was best to nip things in the bud.
I still think it is a painful thing to have told her. Hopefully she counteracted her daughter's sad feelings with something positive and cheerful.
Why oh why must o'bama hurt the innocent ones? He is beyond cruel.
Rhetorical and meant for anyone who really believes Obama cares about “Special” kids.
It doesn’t seem to cross anyone’s mind that Obama is all in favor of the abortion of nine out of ten Down Syndrome kids before they are born. That doesn’t get their attention, but a stupid joke (which reveals Obama’s inner disdain for disabled people) does.
I find it particularly ironic that the first (half) black President is so intolerant—everyone voted for him because they are not intolerant. Instead of being compassionate, he is arrogant :(
This is hilarious. Obama's comment was pathetic; but what is up with this idiot mother going out of her way to "share" the insult with her daughter? What a wretched excuse for a mother.
That’s disturbing (would vote for him again, in the LATimes
story) BTW I don’t think I would have told my daughter
about it, depending on her age.
