Obama's Campaign Army on Road Again: Volunteers Rally Support for Budget Plan
The Washington Post ^ | March 22, 2009 | Peter Slevin and Michael Laris

EVANSTON, Ill., March 21 -- As she headed into the morning sunshine to talk up President Obama's $3.6 trillion budget proposal, Althea Thomas counted herself a citizen and a partisan picking up where she left off Nov. 4, backing the president she helped elect.

"It's the change we all voted on," said Thomas, one of about 40 volunteers who fanned out from the Democratic Party headquarters here with clipboards, pledge cards and a sense of mission that flowed from their support of Obama when he was a candidate.

The Obama administration and the Democratic National Committee opened a new chapter Saturday in their ambitious project to convert the energy from last year's campaign into a force for legislative reform on health care, climate change, education and taxes.

More than 1,200 groups from Maine to Hawaii spent the day gathering signatures in support of Obama's economic plan, the first step in building what the White House hopes will be a standing political army ready to do battle.

Seeking to create a grass-roots force on a scale never seen before, Obama called the volunteers into action in a video message reminiscent of the 2008 contest. In defense of his budget, under attack from many quarters, he asked his supporters to go "block by block and door by door."

In his Saturday radio address, Obama called his budget "an economic blueprint for our future." He said, "I didn't come here to pass on our problems to the next president or the next generation. I came here to solve them."

The idea of deploying a grass-roots army for legislative purposes is untested. Unlike a political campaign, where ballots are simple, if blunt, instruments that produce winners and losers on a fixed date, a policy campaign is amorphous.

"The idea of deploying a grass-roots army for legislative purposes is untested." Maybe in America, but I seem to remember Mao, Stalin, Castro, Hitler and Chavez, among others, using fanatics to browbeat the masses in their respective countries.

Man, he's sure pissed about this whole financial mess. He's acting like a little boy that got nothing but underwear on Christmas.

C’mon by. I want to see if the look on their faces as logic and rationality is applied to their worship of the Obamessiah. I predict they will depart from my premises within 5 minutes.

I wonder how many people who didn’t go along got harassed or threatened.

This guy says he doesn’t want to pass on problems to the next generation? What a laugh. Future generations for decades could be paying for the overspending 0bama and his ilk are foisting upon us now.

They (o’s army) is out in mass on the Internet. All you need to do is look at the comment section of any article, and any online newspaper to see the army in action. You will see almost identical comments in all papers on any subject. It looks like there is a coordinated group that does nothing but spam comment sections with obama propaganda.

I think the Russian Army marching over minefields will have better chances of success than this lame effort to sell this cr*p.

I was thinking they would show up too... I had my hedge clippers all ready for them to trim my hedges, as long as they were volunteering.. I did not want to let a good opportunity go by.. and then tell them to get off my property...

I thought it was pretty much a bust. The only areas that had a big turnout are already hotbeds of Obobots.

I’m putting my flag out on the porch and when they ask me to pledge I’ll be reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and to the Republic - while it still stands.

No it is not against the law to video tape them. They love to tape police and create tapes to use as propaganda, throw their tactics against them.

It is your property and your right to have evidence of what these true NAZI brownshirts are doing.

Now we have to watch that our kids are not going to be indoctrinated (more) at public schools. I am dreading the day when one of my kids comes home, parroting the line from “1984” and calling people “though criminals” (or whatever word will be used). Obama’s supporters already have kids singing about him in the same manner as that creepy song they sang on the bus in the movie.

“I didn't come here to pass on our problems to the next president or the next generation. I came here to solve them.”

That's a tall order for a guy who has never managed a business or worked at a legitimate job in his adult life unless you count his stint as a two-legged floral arrangement at a Chicago law firm.
