Has a ‘Katrina Moment’ Arrived? (New York Times Slams Obama Alert)
New York Times ^ | March 21, 2009 | Frank Rich

Posted on 03/22/2009 3:39:39 AM PDT by Zakeet

A Charming visit with Jay Leno won’t fix it. A 90 percent tax on bankers’ bonuses won’t fix it. Firing Timothy Geithner won’t fix it. Unless and until Barack Obama addresses the full depth of Americans’ anger with his full arsenal of policy smarts and political gifts, his presidency and, worse, our economy will be paralyzed. It would be foolish to dismiss as hyperbole the stark warning delivered by Paulette Altmaier of Cupertino, Calif., in a letter to the editor published by The Times last week: “President Obama may not realize it yet, but his Katrina moment has arrived.”

[Snip]

To get ahead of the anger, Obama must do what he has repeatedly promised but not always done: make everything about his economic policies transparent and hold every player accountable. His administration must start actually answering the questions that officials like Geithner and Summers routinely duck.

Inquiring Americans have the right to know why it took six months for us to learn (some of) what A.I.G. did with our money. We need to understand why some of that money was used to bail out foreign banks. And why Goldman, which declared that its potential losses with A.I.G. were “immaterial,” nonetheless got the largest-known A.I.G. handout of taxpayers’ cash ($12.9 billion) while also receiving a TARP bailout. We need to be told why retention bonuses went to some 50 bankers who not only were in the toxic A.I.G. unit but who left despite the “retention” jackpots. We must be told why taxpayers have so little control of the bailed-out financial institutions that we now own some or most of. And where are the M.R.I.’s from those “stress tests” the Treasury Department is giving those banks?

That’s just a short list.

Things are getting bad for Barry when the New York Times dumps on him like this.

I know I’m having a tin foil moment but here goes.

The NYT is being encouraged by Rats to write some articles criticle of Dems and the POTUS so it won’t look so scandalous when congress endows them with bailout cash.

It's even more of a concern for America that we may have already seen the high-water mark of the Obama presidency. There's no reason to expect that things will get better in this administration.

When Frank Rich stops drinking the Obama Kool aid long enough to actually call him out on his incompetence you know the Kenyan ursurper is in deep waters

Precisely.

This NYT story reminds me of the occasional token "pro-Christian" cases supported by the communist-founded ACLU.

These random, yet deliberate, guises by the ACLU and NYT do not fool me in the slightest.

I know the true intentions of evil organizations.

That doesn’t sound like a tinfoil hat thing to me.

It’s a planned deception tactic to keep Americans focused on AIG scandals while they are busy raping the nation behind the scenes.

It’s really more of an attack on Summers than Obama. And Frank Rich still assumes that Barry Boy is the Messiah who can, if he’ll just pay attention, solve our problems. He’s concerned about the rage not of people like us but of the populist lefties getting out of hand. He’s not concerned about Obama’s socialist agenda. He really only cares about seeing all rich people, all executives, burned at the stake. He’ll actually be supporting Obama as Zero turns his sights on micromanaging all executive compensation across the entire economy (does this remind anyone of how FDR tried to bureaucratically regulate all production, both agricultural and industrial, down to the tiniest detail?).

But we’ll take what we can get, I guess.

We need to constantly refer to the Obama presidency as “The Failed Obama Administration” and “The Failed Obama Presidency.” Repeat it at every opportunity. No matter the subject, toss out referrals to the Failed Obama Administration/Presidency.

As I am a poor artist, I would like to commission a fellow FReeper to come up with a sketch of Obama, eyes blazing, his handlers peering over his shoulder in the background while he strangles TOTUS to death. The caption reads, “This is MY show, not yours.”

Maybe now some of the posters on this site will stop referring to Obama as a brilliant strategist. He is an affirmative action poster boy - the most dangerously incompetent president we have ever had in the White House.

No wonder he has hidden his college grades from public review.

He talks and talks and talks but has no idea what to actually DO!

Years of analysis of the NYT yields anything but fair or balanced reporting, and it really is nothing more than a Goebbels-inspired propaganda rag.

What motivated this verbal assault on their messiah, and moreover, will it continue to stay this way on a permanent basis?

Afterall, if they spent 8 years waging a full frontal assault on President Bush, Governor Palin and other Americans, will they antagonize communists like Obama on a regular basis?

What is the opposite of “too big to let fail?”

Answer: “too small to allow to succeed.”

"As [Comedy Central's John] Stewart said, there were “two markets” — the long-term market that Americans earnestly thought would sustain their 401(k)’s, and the fast-moving, short-term “real market” in the back room where high-rolling insiders wagered “giant piles of money” and brought down everyone with them.

No one is more commanding on this subject than our president.

Jon Leibowitz is a worthless idiot, and the sad reality is that he and Obama together have almost a cult-like following among young Americans.

That, and that alone, is reason enough for me to maintain my distrust and anger toward my own generation.

Good summary of the entire piece.

With a little more "transparency" all be well, says Frank.

Right, that'll do it.
