Help me out here folks Could he really be this stupid????

Now Obama has insulted French President Sarkozy!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh no! Obama sent a letter to Chirac, saying he looks forward to working with him the next four years. Le Figaro, French newspaper is horrified at the faux pas. Doesn't Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It's like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.

Here is a translation of the letter in Le Figaro:

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years.

Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.

Strangely, we have just learnt this surprising piece of news :

Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years ! In a letter described by Chirac as "very nice," Obama wrote, "I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world." The use of the word "peace" was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed.

This revelation was made by the online edition of the daily Le Figaro on Thursday.

Vendredi 20 mars 2009 OBAMA PREFERS CHIRAC !

So, if I understand well, Mister O., who has already despised Gordon Brown, behaving with him as if he did not know he is Prime Minister of Britain, does not even know the name of the French president.

I wonder if someone had told him, when he came to France last summer, that the man he met was NOT Jacques Chirac !

In any case, for Sarko, the blow must be terrible : he has tried to persuade Obama to invite him in Washington for months, and now he learns that his predecessor might soon be Obama's guest at the White House before him ! http://europumas.over-blog.com/article-29271371.html edited to add the original french article: http://www.lefigaro.fr/actualites/20...es-chirac-.php

Chirac did a lot of damage in his dealings with Saddam and then started a massive hate fest toward the French.

With all the comments and utter hatred that blew up, I think all the mocking is what drove the French over the edge.

Plus Chirac wasn’t doing diddly to help deal with France’s domestic problems.

I heard this on the news this morning. I think this is all part of the plan to bring America down. He is isolating us from our allies by insulting them at every turn. I can guarantee you that he wouldn’t do anything to support our allies in troubled times, just ask Israel who watches increduously as Obama funnels $900 million to the Palestinian Authority.

“Seriously speaking, you’re not suggesting that the French have in any way stood up to muslim fanaticism???
Any way at all???”

- IMO, all of us Westerners who debate these topics over the Internet and quarrel like little children over who was right and who was wrong regarding the invasion of Iraq could do MORE.

French troops are presently risking their lives in Afghanistan, fighting Talibans.

Honor them.

Which shows that Obama committed a gross blunder by expressing his open admiration for man who faces stern criticism by his own countrymen. Chirac isn't in power anymore and by extending his willingness to work with Chirac, Obama disrespected the sitting president.

I guess Obama never got out of the community organizer mentality after all.

RIGHT !
From France i can tell that it will be indeed an affront since SARKOZY always wanted to appear as clearly different from CHIRAC.
CHIRAC considered himself as a stupid heir of the pathetic De GauLle’s doctrine of a french neutrality seen as a sign of “independancy” during the cold war in the 60’s.
That’s why De GAULLE decided to withdraw France from NATO...

SARKOZY relentlessly told that he wanted to break with that old french “dogma” and recently decided to come back into NATO.I give credit to SARKOZY for that even if i disagree with him on many issues as he is not a conservative.

In conclusion this is not only a mistake for OHMAMA but a pathetic FAULT !
HOBAMA sees himself as the leader of the world speaking magical words which realize what they mean(as GOD’s words).
He decides who should be the President or PM of others free countries...He thinks that peace will come with IRAN when he says “PEACE” and speaks kind words.

This guy IS a MISTAKE

In the future, the O should send his letters to “Occupant” - it will save him from future embarrassment and he doesn’t have to update his rolodex.

unbelievable

Slips up are made, and sometimes even bright people might forget names or spellings.

But isn’t the potus supposed to have staff on board to catch these kinds of mistakes.

The entire Obama administration really doesn’t seem to be concentrating on their jobs. This does not bode well when a real crisis occurs, which it will sooner rather than later.

Ulysse, I'm very glad to see that at least some people in France seem to understand already that Obama is an arrogant egotistical fraud. We can't say the same for all Americans yet, unfortunately.

For the first two months of his administration Obama has dedicated himself to committing gratuitous - almost infantile - insults to America's friends & allies, while supplicating himself to her enemies & the enemies of peace & democracy around the world.

And how have the world's tin-pot thugs returned the favor of his overly-solicitous gestures of solidarity with them?

By insulting him! Hugo Chavez just called him an ignoramus, last week the Taliban called him "illogical".

All Obama has managed to accomplish so far with his peculiarly self-abasing brand of diplomacy is to alienate our true friends, diminish our standing in the world & make himself look like a feeble, submissive pushover begging for humiliation.

However, there is a silver lining to Obama's never-ending public displays of disrespect toward our friends. The people of France (& Britain & Ireland & Switzerland & Poland etc) can take comfort that theirs is not the only country Obama has seen fit to offend, nor will they surely be the last.

Sarkozy is in the best of company!

To: Cincinna
“FYI, the French have 3,000 or more troops in Afghanistan, and are sending more. Earlier this year, 12 French soldiers were killed by the terrorists, and many were wounded.

Sarko is one of the few European leaders to even acknowledge there is a GWOT. With Tony Blair gone, and the TOTUS in charge, Sarko will be, with Bibi Netanyahu, the leader of the Free World.”

- Thanks for pointing this out, Cincinna.

As a European, I willingly admit Europe could do more in the (G)WOT.

However, I feel America somehow must try and get over the Chirac Shock Syndrome.

The civilized part of the world is in a war together, a war that involves a challenge to the very fundamental principles of freedom and civilization as such.

I admit I'm sometimes amused by jokes and sarcasms regarding France, Sweden and other European nations that I read here on Free Republic, but seriously speaking, certain other attitudes trouble me.

France's behavior during the pre-war 1930s as well as during WWII itself is questionable (just like that of my country, Sweden) but likewise is the support Britain and the US gave Hitler prior to the outbreak of this conflict.

This is something few Internet debating, autodidact leisure time historians of American origin wish to acknowledge.

During WWII Sweden sold iron ore, under threat, to Nazi Germany. True. Prior to the war, Standard Oil sold fuel to Luftwaffe. Also true, but for some reason almost completely forgotten in the US.

There's no reason why ordinary Americans, daily, should express their gratitude towards Sarkozy, or why Europeans should praise USA in a similar fashion.

But, we could all start to behave like grown up individuals.

I hate to say so, but far too often Americans have displayed a very sloppy attitude towards fighting wars and towards national discipline in general.

Not speaking of the American heroes serving at the front line, offering their lives in places like Guadalcanal, Hamburger Hill or the outskirts of Bagdad, but the average Joe, an “american” disappointed with his own life who doesn't hesitate to mock France, a nation that has sacrificed thousands upon thousands of her young sons in trenches during the last century, but still won't lift a finger in honor of the Americans who fought in Vietnam.

It hurts to be forgotten.

Think about it.

It was a beautiful day in Sweden 2004, 11th of March.

I and my workmates went to a nearby bar at noon, some of us wasted money on slot machines. One guy had a beer. I had a sandwich.

Suddenly, the bar owner turned the TV on and there were reports about scores dead in Madrid.

Guess what that did to our cheerful mood that beautiful Gothenburg day of spring.

IMO, it's a crime not to give Spanish, American, French, British and other troops who are stationed in Afghanistan and such places our moral support.

These people are risking their lives while you and I drive around in nice cars, enjoy Jacuzzis and fancy dinners.

Not addressing you Cincinna, but certain other “intellects” here; If you don't take wars seriously, what kind of a second rate, free rider member of Western Civilization are you?

Americans make good soldiers, the world knows that, still, America of today could learn a lot from studying the morale of the soldiers Europe has produced throughout the centuries.

As a Swede, I don't hesitate to say we have an army tradition to be proud of - and even though we haven't fought a war for centuries, I could exemplify by men that still are alive today.

Look at how well Swedish troops performed during the (by today more or less forgotten) Congo Crises in the early 1960s. Despite being poorly equipped and badly prepared for such an environment, priorly more or less completely unknown to them, the 6 334 Swedes under UN command that served in Congo 1960-1964 made a crucial difference to the situation, even though this part of the world remains a hellhole.

Or have a look at how Finland dealt with Stalin during WWII.

Let's continue to make jokes about each other on both sides of the pond, but let's also honor the brave men and women who risk their lives in the WOT, whether they are American, French, South Korean or whatever and let's continue to give support to their loved ones in NYC, Chicago, Marseille, Hamburg, Birmingham, Copenhagen, Osaka, Adelaide, Vancouver and all the other places on Earth where “freedom” still signifies something more than just another empty word.

But, if Obama doesn't read things before he signs the fault is ultimately his 'cuz as he says "the buck stops here", lol.

He all but admitted that he didn't read a $700 billion porkulus bill, you think he's going to read a letter?
