EPA Declares CO2 A Public Danger
businessinsider.com ^ | 03/23/09 | Jay Yarow

Posted on 03/24/2009 5:31:29 AM PDT by Abathar

The EPA has officially declared that CO2 is endangering the public's health and welfare. This means that there will be new pressure on businesses to cut their emissions.

It also sets the stage for cap and trade legislation:

WSJ: A finding that CO2 is a threat to public health and welfare also would ratchet up pressure on Congress to enact a system that caps greenhouse gases and creates a market for businesses to buy and sell the right to emit them, as President Barack Obama has proposed.

There are other great dangers besides CO2.
The Slippery Menace
by Jules Varwig
7/2/2001

How many more must die in the cold porcelain of the household bathtub before we come to our collective senses? This all too common appliance is a proven killer. Unregulated bathtubs cause over 200,00 injuries every year. There are over 100 drownings and 70 people cooked to death in scalding bathwater each and every year. Add the suicides, falls, and deliberate murders that take place in tubs, and the death toll mounts. Sadly, children comprise 75% of the fatalities.

Many European nations have long recognized the risk inherent in bathtubs and have reduced the use of them. Yet in the United States, the bathing culture is rampant, and leads to death and suffering on a gigantic scale. There are those who claim that bath tub use is justified under certain circumstances. Some claim that bathtubs are necessary for cleanliness. Is personal vanity more important to you than a child’s safety?

Recreation is often espoused as a legitimate use of the bathtub but can be disregarded out of hand. No brief thrill is worth the cost of maintaining one of these deadly instruments of destruction in your home. Research shows that the chances of drowning or being boiled in your bathtub are greater than the chances of inducing a supermodel of the opposite sex to share it with you.

Steps should be taken at once to register tubs. Our government at present don’t even know for sure how many of these killer devices exist! Simply incorporating a few questions into the upcoming census would help authorities to determine the size of regulatory agency needed to enforce license requirements.

Many bathtubs hold up to 18 inches of water. The variety known as the “spa” or “hot tub” may hold even more, and has been implicated in cases of date rape. Some of these assault tubs can have as much as 24 inches of water and various automatic jets, whirlpools, and heaters which make them attractive to the criminal bather. Our legislature should take steps to limit all new bathtubs to holding 3 inches of water. This should reduce the chances of mass drowning significantly.

Of course, children make up the overwhelming number of bathtub victims. Even if you don’t own a bathtub, your child’s friends may have parents who are irresponsible bathers. The common sense solution is for people to use faucet locks. Faucet locks can be easily mandated by government, enforced by a new agency set up specifically with tub safety in mind, and subject to in-home inspections at households with registered bathtubs.

Regardless of any “right” claimed by the pro-bathing crowd, (a right which is never mentioned in the Constitution) precedents have already been established for bathroom fixture regulation. The Supreme Court has so far refused to hear any cases involving environmentally friendly commodes, thereby pointing out the foolishness of those who say that the government requirement of a toilet that doesn’t work is some kind of tyranny. We should continue to educate these malcontents and inform their children of the stubborn and selfish ways of their parents.

How can you get involved in insuring your children’s safety? The most important thing you can do is to eliminate your bathtub immediately. Your tub is not necessary to your family’s well being, and in fact is more likely to kill or injure a member of your family or a friend, than it is to drown a burglar. The benefits of eliminating your tub will be immediate and noticeable. There will be a certain air about you that says, “ I did away with my bathtub and I’m safer for it.” Lobby your legislators to immediately invoke new laws to insure your safety from tubs. Give them money if you have to. Write nasty letters, stage protests, and organize anti-bathing individuals to stand around in legislative chambers. You WILL be noticed. Finally, join Bathtub Sanity, the only organization dedicated to your safety from this menace. At B.S. we are constantly involved in political action, research, and public education. We even maintain a facility containing various models of assault tubs, which our staff researches and tests at considerable personal danger.

Your children deserve to be safe, no matter the inconvenience or hardship. They cry out for your protection. Would you deny them?

Here in MI, the two major energy suppliers, Detroit Edison and Consumers Energy, are raising residential rates 11%. At least a third of the cost is to support “green energy” sources. That 11% will be a drop in the bucket compared to the increases yet to come.

Obama will soothe the masses by giving tax credits to those who meet his vision of victimhood. Y’know, anybody who makes less than $20,000 a year. The rest of us will be paying huge costs to subsidize those Barak’s Chosen Ones.

There is no evidence that CO2 has ever caused significant warming on Earth, at least not when the concentrations were within 10-15 times of what they are today. Water vapor is, by far, the most important greenhouse gas in the Earth system. Water vapor accounts for about 95% of the greenhouse effect on Earth. -etl

THE ACQUITTAL OF CARBON DIOXIDE
by Jeffrey A. Glassman, PhD

ABSTRACT:

"Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere [historically] is the product of oceanic respiration due to the well-known but under-appreciated solubility pump. Carbon dioxide rises out of warm ocean waters where it is added to the atmosphere. There it is mixed with residual and accidental CO2, and circulated, to be absorbed into the sink of the cold ocean waters. Next the thermohaline circulation carries the CO2-rich sea water deep into the ocean. A millennium later it appears at the surface in warm waters, saturated by lower pressure and higher temperature, to be exhausted back into the atmosphere. Throughout the past 420 millennia, comprising four interglacial periods, the Vostok record of atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration is imprinted with, and fully characterized by, the physics of the solubility of CO2 in water, along with the lag in the deep ocean circulation.

Notwithstanding that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, atmospheric carbon dioxide has neither caused nor amplified global temperature increases. Increased carbon dioxide has been an effect of global warming, not a cause. Technically, carbon dioxide is a lagging proxy for ocean temperatures. When global temperature, and along with it, ocean temperature rises, the physics of solubility causes atmospheric CO2 to increase.

If increases in carbon dioxide, or any other greenhouse gas, could have in turn raised global temperatures, the positive feedback would have been catastrophic. While the conditions for such a catastrophe were present in the Vostok record from natural causes, the runaway event did not occur. Carbon dioxide does not accumulate in the atmosphere."

http://www.rocketscientistsjournal.com/2006/10/co2_acquittal.html
_______________________________________________________________

The graph above represents temperature and CO2 levels over the past 400,000 years. It is the same exact data Al Gore and the rest of the man-made global warmers refer to. The blue line is temps, the red, CO2 levels. The deep valleys represent 4 separate glaciation/ice-age periods. Look carefully at this historical relationship between temps and CO2 levels (the present is on the right hand side of the graph) and keep in mind that Gore claims this data is the 'proof' that CO2 has warmed the earth in the past. But does the data indeed show this? Nope. In fact, rising CO2 levels all throughout this 400,000-year period actually *followed* temperature increases -lagging behind by an average of 800 years! So it couldn't have been CO2 that got Earth out of these past glaciations. Yet Gore continually and dishonestly claims otherwise. Furthermore, the subsequent CO2 level increases due to dissolved CO2 being released from warming oceans, never did lead to additional warming, the so-called "run-away greenhouse effect" that Al Gore and his friends keep warning us about. In short, there is little if any evidence that CO2 had ever led to increased warming, at least not when the levels were within 10-15 times of what they are today. -etl
_______________________________________________________________

"The above chart shows the range of global temperature through the last 500 million years. There is no statistical correlation between the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through the last 500 million years and the temperature record in this interval. In fact, one of the highest levels of carbon dioxide concentration occurred during a major ice age that occurred about 450 million years ago [Myr]. Carbon dioxide concentrations at that time were about 15 times higher than at present." [also see 180 million years ago, same thing happened]:
http://www.tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=010405M
_______________________________________________________________

So, greenhouse [effect] is all about carbon dioxide, right?

Wrong. The most important players on the greenhouse stage are water vapor and clouds [clouds of course aren't gas, but high level ones do act to trap heat from escaping, while low-lying cumulus clouds tend to reflect sunlight and thereby help cool the planet -etl]. Carbon dioxide has been increased to about 0.038% of the atmosphere (possibly from about 0.028% pre-Industrial Revolution) while water in its various forms ranges from 0% to 4% of the atmosphere and its properties vary by what form it is in and even at what altitude it is found in the atmosphere.

In simple terms the bulk of Earth's greenhouse effect is due to water vapor by virtue of its abundance. Water accounts for about 90% of the Earth's greenhouse effect -- perhaps 70% is due to water vapor and about 20% due to clouds (mostly water droplets), some estimates put water as high as 95% of Earth's total tropospheric greenhouse effect (e.g., Freidenreich and Ramaswamy, 'Solar Radiation Absorption by Carbon Dioxide, Overlap with Water, and a Parameterization for General Circulation Models,' Journal of Geophysical Research 98 (1993):7255-7264).

The remaining portion comes from carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane, ozone and miscellaneous other 'minor greenhouse gases.' As an example of the relative importance of water it should be noted that changes in the relative humidity on the order of 1.3-4% are equivalent to the effect of doubling CO2.

http://www.junkscience.com/Greenhouse/
_______________________________________________________________

Water Vapor Rules the Greenhouse System

Water vapor constitutes Earth's most significant greenhouse gas, accounting for about 95% of Earth's greenhouse effect (4). Interestingly, many 'facts and figures' regarding global warming completely ignore the powerful effects of water vapor in the greenhouse system, carelessly (perhaps, deliberately) overstating human impacts as much as 20-fold.

Water vapor is 99.999% of natural origin. Other atmospheric greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and miscellaneous other gases (CFC's, etc.), are also mostly of natural origin (except for the latter, which is mostly anthropogenic).

Human activities contribute slightly to greenhouse gas concentrations through farming, manufacturing, power generation, and transportation. However, these emissions are so dwarfed in comparison to emissions from natural sources we can do nothing about, that even the most costly efforts to limit human emissions would have a very small-- perhaps undetectable-- effect on global climate.

Water Vapor Confirmed As Major Player In Climate Change

ScienceDaily (Nov. 18, 2008) — Water vapor is known to be Earth's most abundant greenhouse gas, but the extent of its contribution to global warming has been debated. Using recent NASA satellite data, researchers have estimated more precisely than ever the heat-trapping effect of water in the air, validating the role of the gas as a critical component of climate change.

Obama climate czar has socialist ties
Group sees 'global governance' as solution

by Stephen Dinan

Until last week, Carol M. Browner, President-elect Barack Obama's pick as global warming czar, was listed as one of 14 leaders of a socialist group's Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for "global governance" and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change.

By Thursday, Mrs. Browner's name and biography had been removed from Socialist International's Web page, though a photo of her speaking June 30 to the group's congress in Greece was still available.

VENEZUELA: Chavez calls for global offensive for socialism
August 31, 2005

excerpts...

"The environment is suffering damage that could be irreversible — global warming, the greenhouse effect, the melting of the polar ice caps, the rising sea level, hurricanes — with terrible social occurrences that will shake life on this planet."

"I believe this idea has a strong connection with reality. I don't think we have much time. Fidel Castro said in one of his speeches I read not so long ago, 'tomorrow could be too late, let's do now what we need to do'."

"I believe it is time that we take up with courage and clarity a political, social, collective and ideological offensive across the world — a real offensive that permits us to move progressively, over the next years, the next decades, leaving behind the perverse, destructive, destroyer, capitalist model and go forward in constructing the socialist model to avoid barbarism and beyond that the annihilation of life on this planet."

--Hugo Chavez, at the 16th World Festival of Youth and Students, held in Caracas on August 8-15, 2005

Good point.

If CO2 is a public danger as it contributes to the greenhouse atmospheric effect, why isn't water vapor an even more dangerous output of many processes (including the respiration of humans)?

Funny thing, that: there being more plant food available, we actually have more plants! Word is the total size of forests is significantly larger now than in a long time. More CO2, more plants. That’s a _good_ thing, right?

Michelle Bachmann[R} alluded to such the other day, and so did a Democrat Congressman...

Bachmann said, “I want people to be armed and dangerous when it comes to energy [policies]”. She stated that she felt it was of the utmost importance and that it was necessary to protect America's Freedom.
Bachmann urges “armed revolt” over climate change
[ http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2212985/posts ]

A Democrat Congressman yesterday said they will use “whatever means necessary” to reinstate the off-shore drilling ban and make it permanent.
““One way or the other, it will be reinstated,” said Inslee. “One way or the other, by any means necessary.
We are off the Pacific coast, and there would be a civil war,” said Inslee. “There would be something like a secessionist movement if there was a serious attempt to [permanently] remove the moratorium.”

Then we also have an Obama organizer who stated the following, “We're not looking for a fight. THAT WILL COME WHEN WE HAVE AN ARMY”.

The army Obama's organizer mentioned above -- almost the law now... They passed the "Service Act/Give Act" through the Senate last night, so Obama's dream of a Civilian Police Force is a reality, folks.

The NCCC will house young people on campuses, give them uniforms, and they will be at the beck and call of the Federal Government to respond to natural & "OTHER" disasters, as well as to WORK on infrastructure projects. They are estimating something like 7 million people working for various parts of this plan (not sure how many in the NCCC itself).

Please be aware that Obama said throughout his campaign that he wanted this Civilian Security Force to be as WELL-FUNDED, WELL-EQUIPPED, & as WELL-TRAINED AS OUR MILITARY!

It's not paranoia when they're out to get you. I would urge all of my fellow FReepers to keep your eyes open, and be alert for any odd behavior. Between the terrorists, and the Obama sychopants we're going to have our hands full...

Now as far as the article itself? How can they declare Carbon DIOXIDE dangerous? We exhale it every few seconds! They are just using this Gorebull Warming BS as an excuse to grab more power. So sad that so many people are buying the propaganda hook, line, and sinker...

It never ceases to amaze me that these Democrats (the majority of whom are behaving like useful idiots) complained so much over the last 8 years that they couldn't trust Bush and his administration. Now, they figure they'll hand over the keys to the hen house, and give even MORE power to Obama? These people are CRAZY and/or evil. The ecofascists can always eliminate CO2 output by eliminating humans.

Since we’re all exhaling “pollution.” Less people, less “pollution.”

That has ALWAYS been their goal(Marxist/Leninist/Maoist).

They will use starvation as an instument of population control.

Examples include:
1) Ukraine
2) Cambodia
3) Zimbabwe
4) China
5) N Korea

We are being warned by the ecofacist that they will do whatever means necessary to achieve this goal.

This does make the EPA a total joke though. The EPA becomes a public danger.

The gov't regulators have always been on the far left fring. Bush kept them in check as much as possible. Pelosi/Obama have unleashed them.

CO2 is food for plants. It is not toxic, in normal concentrations.
The liberal mind is beyond repair.

For the sake of the planet, We shut off our 10 pound C02 tank operating our CO2 Reactor for our 150 gallon salt water reef aquarium and all of our live coral in the tank will begin to die off. Hmmmmmmmm?

As it dies off it releases methane, a far more potent green house gas.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t...

these new directors, like the new Secretaries of whatever, remind of a new dog in the yard going around marking their territory.

“Is it just me, or do other people have the feeling that there is going to be violence soon over all this?”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

That would seem to be the goal, after all they have declared a natural substance that is necessary for life to be a public health hazard. The worst part is that apparently we would actually be better off with more of it in the air, not less. What are they going to do next, declare dihydrogen monoxide to be a deadly poison? This is either evidence of insanity or a deliberate attempt to destabilize the nation.
