Churches vie to be Obamas' spiritual home
Boston Globe ^ | March 22, 2009 | Joseph Williams

WASHINGTON - Aides to President Obama are quietly checking out local churches to find his new spiritual home, a delicate, complex task that must balance Obama's public profile, security needs, and personal beliefs against a discreet but intense competition among ministers to bring the first family to their pews.

Less than a year after a painful, controversial split with his longtime Chicago church over sermons by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the president's search is being guided by a group of close friends and advisers who have quietly visited some of the congregations - and a low-key vetting operation by White House aides.

Some churches have contacted the White House, lobbying for the president to pay them a visit - and assuring that they can handle his Secret Service detail and the likely scrutiny by the media and Obama's political rivals.

"As we serve our Creator, we are called to serve you and your family," reads a letter sent under official seal by Bishop John R. Schol leader of the Baltimore-Washington conference of the United Methodist Church. "Your message of personal responsibility and justice are important United Methodist themes. . . . Please feel free to contact me personally with any ways that we can support you."

Joshua DuBois, who directs the White House office of faith-based initiatives and is coordinating Obama's search for a church, said his office has been flooded with phone calls and invitations.

DuBois said his primary objective is finding a church that matches Obama's religious beliefs, has a youth ministry for his daughters, and is active in helping the needy.

But most important, DuBois said, is finding a church that can handle the logistical strains and publicity that come with a presidential visit.

"We want to make sure we're respectful of that community," he said.

I've been wondering about this. Does Barry go to church? Not for the last 10 months it seems...well, I guess it's not like this has been a time where he would need guidance or anything. Who will fill Wright's sheet, I mean shoes?

He’s a Marxist, which makes him an atheist. No way this buffoon believes in any entity greater than himself, in his own mind of course.

I note how for many Sunday after the elections he chose to go and play basketball rather than attend church.

Also he preferes to "ESCAPE" from the pressure of the White House several times rather than actually facing the problems & challenges of running the country - and this is just 60 days after being sworn in???

I’m with you. I think he’s probably at very least an agnostic, and attended Wright’s church merely to build a political support network in the Chicago black community...finding a church is far down on his ‘to do’ list because it’s not important to him.

Must be hard to find a church where the preacher is

a) a long-time buddy of kook Calypso Louie
b) teaches that America deserved 9/11
c) says murdered Americans were “chickens coming home to roost”
d) preaches that the CIA invented AIDS to knock off certain segments of society
e) hates Israel and promotes the islamic terrorist side of the Palestinians

Mosks don't give to the needy, they chop their hands off for pinching a loaf of mosk bread. There isn't church on earth that can match Obama's religious beliefs. The bible and Koran are in direct contradiction to one another.

He attended Madrassahs for elementary schools. This was his indoctrination. To say his heart ain’t in attending church would be an understatement. Rev. Wright’s thinking bears no resemlance to Christian theology. Just because a place took the name “church,” doesn’t make it a church. The “Liberation Theology” of Rev. Wright incites hate of everyone but African-Americans.

How in God’s name did so many of the American public elect a man who attended Wright’s church for 20 years and considers Wright his “spiritual” mentor? Radical Left bullsh. rotted the thinking ability of half the American public.

Matthew 12:43-45

43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

I have already called for his cabinet choices to resign.

He should hand the reins over to someone with some idea of how to run things.

Unfortunately, Biden is next in line.

"DuBois said his primary objective is finding a church that matches Obama's religious beliefs, has a youth ministry for his daughters, and is active in helping the needy."

Wrong criterion. The purpose of any believer in finding a group of other believers is to find an appropriate pastor-teacher first, then the other accoutrements and appurtenances of that local body of believers.

Additionally, the spiritual gift of pastor-teacher is a spiritual communication gift whereby the pastor-teacher is able to communicate with the human spirit, not just the human soul of those in his flock. That's not a gift identifiable by somebody else other than perhaps God the Holy Spirit.

IMHO, his search would be more easily solved by finding a pastor not employed by a congregation and a Sunday School teacher for his kids.

His present search is more likely to tempt pastors with worldly lusts, and attract those types of soulish teachers who are precisely the opposite He needs to further his walk with Christ.

He might very well really need a believer with the spiritual gift of evangelism, which also is a spiritual gift of communication, but for addressing unbelievers rather than believers. IMHO, he probably could use several years of simple Bible study before searching for a congregation. The criterion for finding a Church is not to match their beliefs with his, but to humbly find one which will lead him to a closer walk to God on God's terms, instead of his.

When bozo thinks “He's God” he does not need the true God!

He needs no church or a spiritual leader.

The part about “ Under God with liberty snd justice for all”, isn't in bozo's leadership plan!

All Obama wants a church for is a prop to make himself look good.

Maybe Ronald Reagan had it right after all by not going to church while he was president.

Reagan said he didn’t want to be a “distraction.”

Any time Obama enters a church it will be a “distraction” with more worship of Obama than God.

I hope so, but given what Democrat strategist Donna Brazile said in the wake of the Wright controversy, I truly wonder:

“I’ve known Jeremiah Wright and actually Jeremiah Wright is one of the more moderate black preachers.”
