Actually, Hitler was elected. Then that was the end of elections in Germany until after the war.
That's somewhat misleading here. Hitler was never on any ballot, he was merely the head of his party. His party never even received a majority of the votes in any election, yet it had a strong enough plurality to force Hindenburg as president to appoint Hitler as chancellor. He, nor his party, never won a majority of votes in any national election. In fact they never even won 40% of the vote.
Correction, he did run for president but didn’t come close to winning.
Hitler was not only elected, his campaign message was.....guess what.....Hope and Change
