Several major GOP power brokers with ties to convicted former Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona are about to lose their concealed weapons permits under an order by the new sheriff.

Those who have received notices of revocation from Sheriff Sandra Hutchens include Michael Schroeder, chief political and legal advisor to Carona and a former chairman of the state Republican Party; Adam Probolsky, a GOP pollster; and Stephen Mensinger, a political ally of Carona and business executive for major GOP benefactor and developer George Argyros, public records show.

How in the world do these people get away with this stuff? Are Californians all just sheep? They need a revolution out there IMHO.

Doesn't there have to be a legal/justifiable reason to revoke the permit, and not just a whim of the Sherriff?

Otherwise they could/should challenge it in court.

When youhave to ask the government for a ‘permit’ to have a gun they assume they have the rigth to take it away from you too.

They are wrong, but we let them get away with it.

This insanity won’t survive a court challenge, and it’s too bad the already overtaxed citizens of OC, California will have to pay more as a result of an idiot politician posing as sheriff.

Kaleefornia is long over due for someone to push a proposition to cancel the authority of Police Chiefs and Sheriff’s to decide who does or does not get a permit. The law should simply be that an adult who is not convicted of a felony should not be prohibited from concealed carry.

She’s playing political games. Any permits issued by the now convicted Mike Carona to high profile folks are considered suspect because they may have been used to gain political favors.

I haven’t been able to figure out if she’s just trying to clean the CCW process up or is just plain anti-gun. I’m sure a FReeper in the know will chime in.

Did you read the article? One of them is fighting back, threatening legal action.

Here in the OC virtually everyone has decided this EEOC Board of Supervisor appointment at the payment and demands of Joan Irvine - has failed our community.

We are 2-3 months away from a new election cycle and will elect a new sheriff next year.

This sheriff was the union rep in Los Angeles and was retired and taken out of moth balls by joan irvine (the useless granddaughter of a great man and she never worked ever). She brought in a group of equally useless LA sheriffs for their useless political agenda. The sheriff's staff of 15 officers actually had to protect and escort our own sheriff out of a public meeting. We her in the OC hope to next start capitalizing sheriff once again.

Nope! In states where they have "shall issue" CCW laws, then you're protected against the whims of the local politicians and the sheriff. CA isn't one of those states. And the sheriff is the chief LEO in the area, usually the county. So whatever the sheriff decides is "the law."

Exactly what do you mean by the use of the phrase "these people"?

Scan down the list of headlines on FR news/activism. See all those things being done on a national scale while "these people" mail teabags to an incineration facility -- while "these people" make disparaging remarks about each other on news fora.

So whatever the sheriff decides is "the law."

That seems a little broad. Are you a lawyer?

It has survived court challenges, repeated times, which is what drove gun rights activists to pass "shall issue" CCW laws in states which keep this sort of crap from happening. In certain states, the final decision is left up to a board, or even the local chief LEO, which is almost always the county sheriff, depending on how the CCW law is written.
