A Tory who criticised Gordon Brown to his face in a brutal personal attack has won an army of fans worldwide.
A video of MEP Daniel Hannan delivering a withering assessment of the Prime Minister's handling of the economic crisis has become a surprise hit on the internet.
More than 730,000 users have viewed it on YouTube, making it the most popular clip on the site two days in a row.
Mr Hannan's assault came after the Premier had given a keynote speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
As Mr Brown looked on through gritted teeth, shaking his head, the Tory lambasted him as a 'Brezhnev era apparatchik' who was ' pathologically incapable' of taking responsibility for his role in the financial crisis.
The 37-year-old, who was the youngest British member elected to the European Parliament in 1999, yesterday received plaudits for his tongue-lashing.
Broadcasters - including the BBC - failed to report Mr Hannan's onslaught despite giving full coverage to Mr Brown's most pro-European speech to date.

If you haven’t seen the video, it’s definitely one to see.
His clarity of speaking is amazing and refreshing.
It was priceless—all Gordon Brown could do was grin and take notes. Too bad this guy can’t take on Obama.
He was just on Hannity. He said if we do NOTHING ELSE we need to stop the National Healthcare because it’s a disaster. Women are dying of breast cancer because they can’t be treated for it, etc.
And Pelosi is trying to push it through in the dead of the night...
It’s awesome! If only we had an elected Republican that would be so eloquent when speaking to Pres__ent Obama.
Just like in this country, the media is sold out to the socialists/leftists/liberals/communists
Fantastic video, I saw it yesterday when it was at 400,000 or so.
Hannity had him on and the guy was fantastic. Funny, articulate, and he just “gets it”. Dire warnings about socialized medicine, Zimbabwe-style inflation and the perils of Euro-izing the USA, destroying what made us great.
We need to get this guy to move to the US and run for public office! I don’t care if it’s for Dog Catcher, I’m votin’ for that guy right there. He’s more of an American Patriot than half of the 535. More than half.
Great speech.
And Reid too. They want to give it a special designation so it only needs 51 votes to pass instead of 60.
Bump
THE MAN. He is speaking to the frustration that we all feel.
I saw the video, and I don’t think it was a “brutal attack”. It was on the other hand a well put together, civil slicing of Gordo, whom I understand deserved every bit of it.
Right. I wrote my congressman and senators about it and told them not to let them pull this.... but I have Feingold and Kohl, so what can I say?
he was on Sean Hannity’s radio show today, and he sounded embarrassed when Sean pressed him for choosing Obama. Hannity was surprised when Hannam knew OF his show because as Hannam explained “conservatives here in the UK know each other by secret handshakes and signs”. LOL
The one thing he pressed upon was that even if you forgot the entire interview, he stated ‘do not nationalize health care”.
Ironic to it's core.
It was Hannan that gave a pro European speech.
Doltss!
I have been reading about this gentleman for a couple days now.
This is the first time I watched his speech.
Oh! My! Goodness! That was GOOD. They must still teach analytical and rhetorical skills in British schools.
...
It is very interesting that this is a “surprise hit” on Youtube.
There IS a pent up demand for conservatism and common sense (Steele? Cornyn? ARE YOU LISTENING?)
Any American representative or (especially, because they get more coverage) Senator who had the guts and credibility to give such a speech denouncing Bambi and Geithner on the floor of the senate would similarly become an overnight “hit” on you tube — and more importantly, would receive a well deserved and much needed mantle of LEADERSHIP.
I
What impressed me most was the tone and cadence of the delivery ... the message was clear and delivered superbly.
>> He was just on Hannity.
Good to know. I watch the re-air.
I’m sure WH press secretary Gibbs will go after him < /half sarcasm >
” If only we had an elected Republican that would be so eloquent when speaking to Pres__ent Obama.”
Ha. Is there even one elected Republican who would fail to pee down his own leg at the mere thought of taking on Obama in such a fashion?

You’re lucky. I have Cantwell and Murray.
best Line is .. Mr Brown.. You Cannot spend your way out of a recession and you Can’t Borrow your way out of DEBT!

Sad, isn’ it?
Yup, makes you want to cry.
Our politicians seem to pride themselves on speaking poorly.
Thanks for posting this. I wish we had some orators in the republican party like that.
Brown had a chance to respond, but I haven’t seen it.
So how much would it cost to get this guy to come to the U.S. and tell off Obama the same way? (heck, I'll pop for it, it'd be worth every penny.)
You’re welcome. I second your wish.
Shame there are no men like this in the GOP...or anywhere else; for that matter.
How pathetic that nowhere in the US Congress do we have anyone that loves this country enough to do what this man did.
Anyone catch his appearance on Cavuto’s show:

A lot of good stuff in there.
I have heard soundbites - and it is amazing!
(SSA)Social Security is PURE socialism.. Not like socialism but PURE socialism.. And most all republicans are oblivious to that fact..
OBLIVIOUS...
For later
I have seen the speech twice and him on Hannity twice.
He was great, leaving one with the sad realization that there is NO ONE on “the other side” who has the nerve or perhaps even the intelligence to formulate such a clear-cut
and focussed ad hominem “attack”. NO ONE in the Republican party. Bobby Jindal did not even come close the other day.
Obama needs to be attacked, mocked, and sorry if the choice of words is “wrong”, but put in his place. He needs to be called out for the demagogue he in fact IS. His ascent to power needs to be challenged and questioned and exposed in all its very dubious and questionable phases , INCLUDING the actual source of his campaign money. If that could be exposed, his waning popularity would plummet further. And all his Dem cohorts need to be exposed for what they are before it’s too late. Millions of Americans are ready and willing to do what it takes the hoot and holler these sleazeball thugs out of power, and I think we’ll have to take the lead before ANYONE in a position of power will.
