Texas Governor’s Race (Hutchison mocks Perry for Palin endorsement)
Lone Star Times ^

Posted on 03/27/2009 11:59:51 AM PDT by mnehring

The battle lines for the Republican primary next year in the race for Texas governor are becoming a bit clearer. As most of us thought, current Gov. Perry is trending further to the right as he fights to reduce spending, keep taxes where they are or lower and continues his tradition of fighting against abortion. Some of us weren’t quite so clear on his almost officially announced challenger, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

A few of the moves she has made lately indicate that she will try and pick up the left side of the Republican vote, as well as try to move moderate Democrats to cross over to the Republican primary. Her website is promoting a parody of her on Saturday Night Live, a step towards ingratiating her with a younger, hipper crowd. She continued with the pop culture theme by issuing a press release congratulating the NFL and DirecTV for reaching a new agreement because “It is important for consumers to have enhanced viewing options”.

Her website is also featuring an editorial from the Texarkana Gazette, which mocks Gov. Perry for gaining the endorsement of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Palin has a certain cachet among conservatives. … But Lord, have mercy, she is an outsider with an opinion about Texas politics and government. And she sounds like the Yankee she is, if we use the definition that Yankees come from north of the Red River.

If Perry relies too heavily on Palin, he may find himself with a lot of time to watch Russians from her front porch come January 2011.

Dissin’ (see I can be hip too) Gov. Palin is not going to put Sen. Hutchison in a favorable light with a lot of Texas conservatives.

But the most telling sign is her decision to support mass expenditures of taxpayer money on more social programs. Yesterday, in a joint statement in the Houston Chronicle, she joined with Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy to “reinvigorate” the country’s “war on cancer”. Of course, Gov. Perry beat her to it on that front, pushing through $3 billion in cancer research funding in Texas, so I suppose that one is a draw.

Also yesterday, breaking from her conservative colleague Sen. John Cornyn, Sen. Hutchison voted Yea on HR 1388, otherwise known as The Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act or the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act. In doing so, she voted to expand government spending by billions. From the Congressional Budget Office Cost Estimate:

Foster Grandparent Program ($115 million),

VISTA ($100 million),

Learn and Serve America ($97 million),

Retire and Senior Volunteer Program ($70 million),

Senior Companion Program ($55 million), and

National Civilian Community Corps ($35 million).

Incredibly, after voting for that additional spending, her website touts her fiscal conservatism. Amazing but then again, she has been in Washington a long time. In this post on her website, TRILLIONS: A tax, borrow and spend approach won’t fix the economy, she states:

I, along with so many Americans, am in sticker shock over the trillions of dollars at play in these efforts.

Um, yeah. Me too, which is why I was surprised that she voted for the GIVE Act. But in all honestly, I’m not certain that the deficit spending she voted for is the worst part of the GIVE Act. Could the National Civilian Community Corps created by the bill be the Civilian Security Force that President Obama longs for?

I do NOT like Perry but if she is running to the left, what choice will we really have in the primary?

With the direction Kay is running, the Dems don’t need a candidate to run, they have her.. She is making Good Hair look absolutely conservative by comparison..

Yet there are Freepers who like Fey-Bailey Hutchison. RINO hag.

A few of the moves she has made lately indicate that she will try and pick up the left side of the Republican vote, as well as try to move moderate Democrats to cross over to the Republican primary.

Which means she'll get a clear endorsement from both former presidents named Bush and win the primary (in which case, will also mean that the Lone Star state will have a Democratic governor come election time).

Fey-Baily deserves to go down hard for her pro-abortion stance alone.

KBH PING.
Perry’s running right, she’s running left.
Yup, she HAS been in DC too long.

Sigh.

Can’t believe I may have to vote for Perry next year. I will never vote for KBH. She has betrayed us in the Senate just as much as Arlen Sphincter. Her vote to confirm Locke as Commerce Sec and her support of the GIVE act are just the latest examples.

Please go away KBH!

Kay Darlin’ this is no time for a cat fight. Retract your claws sweetheart. You’d be wise to remember that Sarah doesn’t fight like a girl. So go back to your social activities in the Senate ... before you get your A$$ kicked, beeotch.

Given their political statements in the past, I would say DC insider KBH is more of a Yankee than Palin. ;)
